Excellent guides in an old tin mine that dates back to the 16th century. Still working equipment from the middle ages to the 20th century. Recommend the adventure tour that is about 2.5 hours long and includes a tour in the machine room and the mineral collection. Ein einmaliges Erlebniss im Silberbergwerk. Wir hatten einen sehr netten Guide, der uns Kompetent und mit viel Humor durch das Bergwerk geleitet hat. Vor dem Betreten der Gänge wurden wir mit Gummistiefeln, Schutzkleidung und Helm und Lampe ausgestattet. Da es im Bergwerk sehr nass und zum Teil auch sehr eng und niedrig ist, eine absolut notwendige Maßnahme. Betreten wird das Bergwerk über einen kleinen Fahrstuhl. Dabei besuchten wir soweohl neuzeitliche Bereiche des Bergwerks, als auch welche aus dem Mittelalterlichen Bergbau. Durch Demonstrationen (z.B. an alten Geräte) oder durch das Anzünden eines Kienspans beim gleichzeitigen Löschen des Lichts, wurden sehr eindrücklich die Arbeitsbedingungen der jeweiligen Zeit vermittelt.See more..

This was a pleasure visit. Kind staff will introduce the history and techniques of mining in Zinnwald, local minerals and rocks and also current plans of mining. They further show all the interesting places inside including dead bodies storage chamber (empty now of course) and a toilet :-) They provide all the clothing, helmet and head light. There is 8 deg C, so wear some warm coat even during summer. There are however not good lighting for decent pictures (unless you have and extra flashlight and a tripod.See more..

The Pferdegöpel is a very interesting monument. In 1948 the last of these installations got destroyed by the Russians because they wanted to take some Uran out of the mines. Later it was rebuilt and shows how the miners brought silver up from the mines. The Göpel is a complicated wooden gear which was powered by horses. This place is worth a visit. poreSee more..

The first attraction was our guide who explained the history and the tools in a easily understandable language (German). This was a silver and bismuth mine. About 5000 people worked there. After WW II the Russians found some uranium which they needed for their atomic bombs. A very friendly staff welcomed us. We took the 1.5 hours walking tour. It was very well guided with a lot of information about the mining history in this region. Well also for little children (6 years is minimum). Reserve a tour if you are a larger group.
