  8. 4.5 Panometer (683 reviews)
    - Breathtaking experience.
Friday: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Panometer image
Located on the premises of the Leipziger Stadtwerke, the Panometer Leipzig originally was used to store city gas. In 2003 the Berlin artist Yadegar Asisi started its remodelling with displaying unique and monumental 360° panoramas in the former gasometer. The Panometer’s overall artistic concept is a combination of the accompanying exhibition, introducing to the current topic, and the 32 m high and more than 100 m wide panorama, that is staged through the simulation of night and day by light and sound. Standing on the 15 m high platform in the middle of the monumental picture you can thus experience the perfect illusion of immerging into a distant country or an elapsed period of time. Over the past years, the Panometer Leipzig already took its visitors to the foot of Mount Everest, into the life of ancient Rome, to the beauty of the tropical rain forest, through the confusions of the Battle of the Nations in Leipzig and into the astounding underwater world of the Great Barrier Reef. Further panoramas are planned for the future and will be presented in the frame work of a world premiere in Leipzig. Besides the visitation of the impressive panorama and the tour through the accompanying exhibition, the visitors can witness the creation of the world’s largest panorama pictures by watching the making-of film at the end of the exhibition. After the visit, the Panometer-Cafe invites the guests to relax with a cup of coffee and a piece of cake. CURRENT PANORAMA-EXHIBITION: since January 28th 2017 all-the-year "TITANIC - The Promise of Modernity" See more..
  9. 4.5 Panorama Tower (672 reviews)

This is the tallest building in Leipzig and has a great panoramic view of the city. The entrance was only 4€ at a turnstile once you got to the top. The observation deck is outdoors and very windy, with signs showing the locations of various buildings and landmarks. There is also a small kiosk which was closed. I visited in the morning and was the only person on the roof, which was an incredible experience. See more..

    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Old Market Square (Altmarkt) image
The Old Market Square is one of the best squares in Dresden and seems to be have stalls perennially set up with stalls. At least, it was the whole time I was in Dresden. Fun place for festivities with lots and lots of food, drink and gift stalls, plus a few mini fairground type activities for the little ones. There’s also lots of shops around the square, most hidden by the stalls in the square, but they are there. Also on the square is one of the best known buildings in Dresden, the Church of the Holy Cross. See more..
  12. 4.5 Schloss Moritzburg (532 reviews)
    - Beautiful castle
Friday: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Castles
    Schloss Moritzburg image
Beautiful palace! We went by car and the parking was around 3 euro for 2 hours but we did not need that much time because we did not go inside the castle. The best pictures can be taken however from outside of the island where the castle is located because then you can have the water on the photo too. My last photo was taken from the parking lot a bit further away from the castle. Nice activity on a sunny day. But don't expect much, I think one hour is okay. See more..

  16. 4.5 Schlossplatz (263 reviews)
    - What a gem of a square!
Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Schlossplatz image
Schlossplatz is also called the Palace or Castle Square of Dresden. It takes no rocket scientist to figure out that this is the square that faces the royal palace. This palace had been the ruling center of Saxony for over 400 years and this square is still used for political activities these days. Buildings like the Hofkirche, Standehaus and Georgentor surround this square. You can see the Napolean Stone and Monuments of King Albert and Friedrich August in Schlossplatz. This 15th century square and the buildings around it were mostly detroyed by the allied bombings of WWII and had to be restored. The square has great charm and character. It is best viewed at night. - Great find
Friday: 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Muehle Schmilka image
See more..

  25. 4.5 Kuhstall (86 reviews)
    - Great arch, but don't take the tram.
Points of Interest & Landmarks • Caverns & Caves
    Kuhstall image
We really quite liked this walk. I went all the way up with a 30 pounder on my neck/shoulders and it was still quite doable. Relatively easy walk and well maintained. On top there are several vantage points with really nice views. The cow shed itself is impressive and the chairs to the top are a nice touch. I'd advice against taking the tram to the waterfall, it's slow and not worth the money. Better off taking the bus really. See more..

    Dom St. Marien image
The Freiberg Cathedral is one of the sublimest hall churches in Saxony and is one of the cultural centers of Freiberg. It is widely known for the Golden Arch, both of the organs built by Gottfried Silbermann, the miners’ and the tulip pulpit and for much more. - The Hidden Truth: A Lovely City not Known by Tourists
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Bautzener Rathaus image
When we finally found a parking place in town, we were facing the gorgeous yellow Rathaus. There were numerous beautiful edifices around us, but nothing compared to the attractive Rathaus. I noticed it had two clocks. I guess if one is non-functional, people can rely on the other one. I couldn't help but take numerous pictures of this beautiful edifice. As we continued exploring the old city, we were mesmerized by the beauty of its medieval settings. It was so beautiful! I wondered why there weren't many tourists. I guess no one knows about it, but at least we enjoyed this gem! See more..
  31. 5.0 Barbarine am Pfaffenstein (44 reviews)
    - Get Butterflies in the pit of your stomach
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Barbarine am Pfaffenstein image
Hiking up onto the Pfaffenstein to see the Barbarine can be quite the adventure depending on the route you take. For the less agile or more timid, I recommend the 'Bequemer Weg'. Slightly more strenuous and interesting is the Klamm. If you come up from the other side be prepared for more than stairs. You will definitely need to hold on with both hands as you climb up the rock on steel ladders. Once at the top, you can have a fine meal and beverage at the restaurant. Climb the tower and find yourself holding on to a thi railing on a narrow balcony. This is a taste for what to expect when you head over to the Barbarine, the most famous rock in the national park. Hang on to your kids as the ledges are not secured to modern standards. The views are staggering, but so is the pucker factor. See more..

Leaning Tower of Bautzen / Reichenturm image
This is an interesting looking tower. The construction began in 1490. It survived several sieges and fires. In 1747 it was observed that the tower was leaning. It was not until 1953/54 that the inclination movement could be stopped by fastening the foundation. The tower still deviates from the vertical by 1.44 m at its top. Great photos of the tower can be taken from the street leading from the Market Sq. See more..

    Krabat-Mühle Schwarzkollm image
if you are a fan of Krabat, the movie or the book, we do hope you will not be too disappointed when visiting the Black Mill. It has not much to do with the mill from the movie. The way that leads from Schwarzkollm to the mill is nicely decorated with stones and ravens. The mill itself caters to mass events rather than to individual visits. we planned to stay there much longer, but had seen everything in under an hour. See more..

  41. 5.0 Haus Schminke (22 reviews)
    - Absolut sehenswert!
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Haus Schminke image
