The rock mass was not only a popular motive for the painters of the romance like C.D. Friedrich, also the Brothers Grimm wrote here the legend of the Jungfernsprung. Around the Oybin are many stories and legends about knights, witches, buried treasures, underground passages, real virgins and evil robbers - and who knows what treasures are still hidden and buried here today. The Saint Alexi Memorial Church in Leipzig commemorates the thousands of Russian soldiers who fell in the Battle of Nations (1813) and can easily be combined with a visit to the Volkerschlachtdenkmal and Sudfriedhof. It is open daily 10-17h with a pause from 13.15-14h. A donation of 1 euro is requested for good causes, which is a small price to pay to view the beautiful iconostasis. The church has been undergoing renovation but on the afternoon I visited the scaffolding seemed to be coming down.See more..

This is a very interesting church as it's for both Catholics and Protestants. It is one of the biggest of this kind in Germany. The cathedral as it stands now was constructed between 1456 and 1463. In 1523, Lutherans started preaching in the church. Since 1530, both Catholics and Lutherans have shared the cathedral. Its most distinctive feature is the strongly protruding angulation, which is probably because the church was erected on the foundations of another church which was built around 1000.See more..

we have spent two days in this part of Germany, on the border with Poland and Czech Republic. We have chosen this accomodation because of nice location and beautiful monastery with hotel accomodation. It was very calm and pleasant stay, in November few people only, in summer it must be much better. The monastery was recently perfectly restored including rooms, also breakfast was very sufficient. We surely will come again for longer time.See more..

There is hardly anything left of the old once important cistercian abbey, so not much architecture to enjoy. The park is said to be nice, though, but there is a non-negligeable entrance fee (5€ per person or 7€ when combined with Castle Nossen nearby). There was a rock festival at the time of our visit, so we didn't fancy paying for a walk through the park while being blasted with rock music. That being said, if you're a rock fan it's a great setting for a festival and the parking was very well organized.See more..

I found the kloster after walking around the small narrow streets of Pirna. The schloss overlooks the town with everything all converging on the old town square. The old houses are painted in colourful colours giving some life to the old sleepy town. The kloster was visited at the end of my visit before cycling back to Dresden. The journey took 70 minutes and is highly recommended for a warm sunny day. See more..

Wir waren heute ganz spontan in Wechselburg. Die Klosteranlage ist sehr interessant. Im Frühling ist wohl der Park noch schöner, da alles blüht. Aber auch jetzt war es spannend.
Der Kräutergarten ist schön mit dem kleinen Teich in der Mitte. Im Park können die Kids super auf den Bäumen klettern.See more..
