It is a beautiful building with a restaurant and a hotel. The property can be reached by car. There is an amazing view of the surroundings. At the top ends several ropeways and ski lifts. The restaurant serves delicious German cuisine. Everything is clean and maintained. Ideal for sports and walks. I visit every year.See more..

In der Oberlausitz gibt es einige sehr schöne Wanderberge. Der "Mönchswalder" ist unter all diesen aber besonders hervorzuheben. Sehr schön hergerichtete Bergbaude, sanierter Aussichtsturm, Biergarten, Spielplatz. Alles super gepflegt. Auch für Familien mit Kindern geeignet. Mit dem Auto kann man bis zur Bergbaude fahren. Parkplätze sind genug vorhanden. Die Straße ist aber ziemlich steil. Wir waren mit dem Fahrrad hier oben. Ein harter Kampf, der sich dennoch gelohnt hat. Wir werden sicher wieder kommen.See more..

Lausche (Czech Luž) is the highest peak of Lusatian Mountains directly at the Czech-German border and it is accessible from both sides on several very well marked hiking trails. Sympathetic is that Saxon and Czech side use the same marking (colour line between two white lines) and that Czech and German trails follow each other so it is possible to comfortable move from one side of border to the other and back without a risk of loosing a way. I hiked to the top from German side (from Jonsdorf, through Waltersdorf) and came back on the Czech side. Both way were beautiful, the German one with more views to the neighbourhood, the Czech one deeper in the forest, more wild and natural. Both are steep and in a hot weather we had that day a bit difficult. But it is definitely worth it. You can enjoy breath taking views from the top. There are also romantic ruins of former hut. At the time of my visit there was still construction of a new lookout tower on going but it should be open still in August 2020. There are several refreshment opportunities at the foot of the mountain at both side of the border but not on the top.See more..
