The Saint Alexi Memorial Church in Leipzig commemorates the thousands of Russian soldiers who fell in the Battle of Nations (1813) and can easily be combined with a visit to the Volkerschlachtdenkmal and Sudfriedhof. It is open daily 10-17h with a pause from 13.15-14h. A donation of 1 euro is requested for good causes, which is a small price to pay to view the beautiful iconostasis. The church has been undergoing renovation but on the afternoon I visited the scaffolding seemed to be coming down. See more..

This castle is worth it, even with kids. There are several things for the kids, that sparks their interest. The amount of visitors is low compared to some of the more famous castles, whitch makes this castle even more enjoyable to visit, since it takes away the pressure when you walk around in the state rooms. Schloss Wolkenstein auf steilem, etwa 80 m hohem Gneisfelsen grüßt und fasziniert schon von weitem und lockt seine Gäste zu dessen Erkundung an. Und wer nicht wenigstens einmal den Schlosshof betreten hat, war nicht wirklich in Wolkenstein. Die historisch gewachsene Burg-Schloss-Anlage vereint verschiedene alte Baukörper. Der im 14. Jahrhundert errichtete Wohnturm als ältester Teil des heutigen Gebäudekomplexes, Nachfolgebau einer Wehrburg mit unbekanntem Aussehen, und das Küchenhaus wurden im 16. Jahrhundert ergänzt durch die heute dominierenden Gebäudeteile: Südflügel und Nordflügel mit Torhaus. Obwohl noch mancherlei auf die einst notwendige Wehrhaftigkeit hindeutet, wird das Bauensemble heute meist als Schloss bezeichnet. Das Museum im Schloss Wolkenstein gibt dem interessierten Gast weitere Einblicke in die Geschichte des Bauwerkes und der Stadt. Wenn man der moritzburgerstraße hoch auf den berg folgt findet man nicht nur die sternwarte linker hand, das mohrenhaus und den wald rings um das schwarze teivj, wie der see in der mitte heißt. Über einen teilweise recht steilen und beschwerlichen weg kommt man an einen der schönsten Aussichtspunkte radebeuls. Bei schönem Wetter kann man bis weit nach dresden sehen. Über die friwdensburg gelangt man wirder nach unten

Kann die Besichtigung eines Rathauses interessant sein? Hier auf alle Fälle! Es präsentiert sich schon von außen hübsch, mit der schmucken Jugendstilfassade. Innen sind zum Glück - trotz Krieg und Hochwasser - einige Bleiglasfenster, Bilder, Leuchter und ein toller Ratssaal zu sehen. Vom Turm hat man einen umfassenden Blick auf die Stadt und den Fluß. Die Turmuhr - über hunert Jahre alt - tut noch immer ihren Dienst. Geht genau, auch wenn moderne Uhren, wegen Frequenzschwankungen im Netz, ständig nachgestellt werden müssen. Es handelt sich um eine im Jahre 1889 errichtete Holländerwindmühle. Sie war bis in das Jahr 1976 ohne elektrischen Anschluss, also nur mit Windkraft in Betrieb. Sie fristete dann ein Dasein bis in die 90 Jahre und nach umfangreicher Rekonstruktion ist sie von April bis Oktober wieder für Gäste in voller Aktion. Es ist interessant wie mir dieser alten Technik wieder Mehl und andere Produkte aus Korn hergestellt werden. Meine Enkel waren von dieser alten Technik so begeistert, dass sie dies mehrmals in Aktion erleben wollten. Auch für Erwachsene ist die interessant , die Mehl nur aus der Kaufhalle kennen. Für jung und alt sehenswert. Unweit der Mühle steht ein Lehmbackofen. Hie kann man sehen wie aus dem Mehl Brot und Brötchen entstehen und gebacken werden. Für leibliches Wohl wird im Museum gesorgt.
