    Fargo Air Museum image
Located just off I-29 interstate, The Fargo Air Museum is an easily accessed pet friendly, must-stop location. North Dakota's premiere aviation destination, the Fargo Air Museum's dual hangars are home to aircraft of all eras - from a modern unmanned reconnaissance drone to the "most accurate recreation of a Wright Brothers' flyer the Smithsonian Institute has ever seen." A "flying" museum, many of the airplanes occasionally take to the sky, a unique feature not found in the vast majority of the nation's static-display air museums. More than just a simple place to display its many aircraft, military memorabilia and exhibits, the Fargo Air Museum also houses one of the midwest's largest Aviation libraries. In addition, the museum hosts educational day-camps, speakers and seminars for flight fans of all ages to enjoy. The Fargo Air Museum is a fantastic choice for a unique venue for corporate & private events and has quickly become a local favorite for hosting wedding ceremonies and receptions. Please email for event rental information. Located across the street from the Fargodome, the museum is also surrounded with dining opportunities and is conveniently just moments away from the Fargo's Hector International Airport. See more..

So yes we like to stop at odd places while traveling. Salem Sue is a great stop. You have to take the dirt road up the hill to a small parking area but it is a good road. Sue is bigger than you think when you get close and you can see it from miles away which is fun. Definitely stop and take a look you will not be dissapointed. See more..

    - Sandy

    World's Largest Sandhill Crane image
They certainly love large statues along I-94 in North Dakota. Sandy is located just off the interstate, and provides one with an excuse to get off the road and stretch ones legs. I have been to Nebraska for the sandhill crane migration, so I knew I needed to check this out. It was a bit sad to find out that ND has a hunting season for sandhill cranes. See more..
  4. 3.5 Red River Valley Fairgrounds (21 reviews)
    - Another great year at the fair...
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Red River Valley Fairgrounds image
I have lived in the area for four years and have been going out to the fairgrounds for the past three years for the Red River Valley Fair. It is usually held in July and every year there is something different to entertain the visitors. This year they had a great reptile show and a rather corny pirate diving show (more for the children) and all the usual food and rides. Bonanzaville is also open and free to all paid fair guests- its only worth the visit if it’s free. You can sign-up on the fairs facebook page to receive coupons via email and they even had a discounted facebook fan day. There is free parking close to the gate, or you can pay $3 for parking that is a little closer. It is a great few hours out in West Fargo for people of all ages. See more..

    Bagg Bonanza Farm image
We stopped by on Labor Day weekend. We were so blessed to have Virginia as our tour guide. She is from the area, has been giving tours here for 30+ years, and has given and continues to give so much of herself in the preservation and restoration of this bonanza farm. It was much due to her photography, documentation, and efforts that the Bagg Farm was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005. Virginia was personally acquainted with one of the Bagg daughters, and has a wealth of inside information to share. We very much enjoyed learning about bonanza farms and seeing this amazing, non-commercialized piece of history. See more..

    Mystical Horizons image
We stopped here on a rainy morning. Take the time to read the kiosks before you go up to see the exhibits. Uniqueness is the proper word to explain why you should stop here. You will see a sundial, a North Star sighting tube and rock formations that resemble Stonehenge of the Old World. Remember to read the Kiosk information that tells the story of Jack Olson as to why he built it here and what it represents. Plenty of room for parking and a great place to stretch your legs and maybe some motivation for your mind. See more..

The family of the late John G. "Custer" Grenz exhibits his collection of threshing machines (the "dinosaurs of the prairie) along Hwy 34 E of Napoleon ND. The walk up the ridge (a terminal glacial moraine) is exhilarating, and the view from the top is expansive. A great place to stretch your legs after a drive, while soaking up a little agricultural history. Kids like running around among the old machines. See more..

We saw the sight as we were driving by and stopped for a tour. It was part of the Stanley Mickelson Safeguard System of the Cold War era. The tour was fascinating as we went through the bunker and looked at the middle tubes. The owner was very knowledgeable. Even though the military removed all equipment it was a must see. See more..

  17. 5.0 Saint Stanislaus Church (1 review)
    - Warsaw’s Beautiful Cathedral on the Prairie
Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Churches & Cathedrals
    Saint Stanislaus Church image
St. Stanislaus Catholic Church is a beautiful cathedral style church on the Northeastern North Dakota prairie! Even if you are not Catholic, I think you would stand in awe as you enter the old holy doors of this incredible church built by Polish immigrants in 1900. This church is easily one of my favorite places ever. It sits in the middle of nowhere, in a little speck of a village in North Dakota, called Warsaw. The stained glass is fantastic! The pipe organ is phenomenal! I feel that a place like this brings a person one step closer to God. Bring your camera. Stay for Mass. Pray. I certainly appreciate this church and the Polish immigrants that built this amazing structure. St. Stanislaus is listed in the United States National Register of Historic Places. Simply inspiring. All glory and honor to Jesus, our Lord and Savior. See more..

  20. Writing Rock State Historical Site (0 review)
Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks
Two granite boulders inscribed with thunderbird figures are exhibited at this site. The designs on the rocks are clearly American Indian, despite unfounded speculation attributing the origins of the “mysterious carvings” to Vikings, Chinese, or others. Similar rock art sites are found in Roch Percée and Kamsack, Saskatchewan; Long-view and Writing-on-Stone Provincial Park, Alberta; Pictograph Cave near Billings, Montana; Dinwoody, Wyoming; Ludlow Cave, South Dakota; and at numerous archeological sites in the upper Midwestern United States. The two boulders are enclosed in a shelter and protected by iron bars. Recreational facilities at the historic site include picnic tables in a grove of trees, picnic shelters, a building with a kitchen, fireplace, playground equipment, restrooms, and a parking lot.
