  1. 4.0 Shediac's Giant Lobster (486 reviews)
    - Great for a little diversion
Points of Interest & Landmarks • Monuments & Statues
    Shediac's Giant Lobster image
One of the most photographed attractions in New Brunswick, i.e. Shediac’s Giant Lobster, is ageing gracefully, even very gracefully, and we plan to celebrate its 25th anniversary in style this year (2015). This work of art measuring 11 metres long, 5 metres in width, 5 metres high and weighing nearly 90 tons saw the light of day thanks to an initiative launched by the Shediac Rotary Club. The Town and the Rotary Club will therefore work together to mark the quarter century of existence of this work of art sculpted by the artist Winston Bronnum. For more information on the festivities marking the 25th anniversary, please visit the Town of Shediac’s website. See more..
  2. 4.0 King's Square (229 reviews)
    - Nice Park
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    King's Square image
Nice little park in the city with interesting history. The Grandstand, which is the centre point of the park was the most interesting part for me. Lots of different Monuments and Memorials here to see. Street parking is available here too, especially in the morning. Ended up here twice during our visit and there is a distinct difference between morning and night here, as it was getting a little sketchy at night. I could see the change occurring at dusk so best to visit here earlier in the day. Worth a visit if you have time on your hands. See more..

  4. 4.5 Mulholland Point Lighthouse (84 reviews)
    - Great views and a nice place to picnic.
Points of Interest & Landmarks • Lighthouses
    Mulholland Point Lighthouse image
I love lighthouses and have dragged my husband along winding roads some of which are unpaved "just" to see a lighthouse. Last year when we visited Acadia and Schoodic, we made our way to Lubec to see the West Quoddy lighthouse. When in Lubec, we saw the Mulholland Lighthouse from a distance but couldn't cross into Canada due to the pandemic. This year I was determined to go. Getting to this lighthouse was easy--just cross the Roosevelt International Bridge and you are there! The lighthouse was constructed in 1884 to guide vessels through the Lubec Narrows, the passage between Campobello Island and Maine. There is a picnic area and steps leading down to the water. This is the only lighthouse shared by both Canada and the US and is located within Roosevelt International Park. It has great views of the FDR Bridge and Lubec across the narrows. Go and enjoy! 11. 4.5 Long Eddy Point Lighthouse (50 reviews)
    - Forget the lighthouse but drive down the road!
Points of Interest & Landmarks • Lighthouses
    Long Eddy Point Lighthouse image
This lighthouse area is always mentioned on tourist sites as the best place to see the sunset and for several years, it's where we went to watch them when we were visiting Grand Manan. The lighthouse itself is a modern structure and not photographic like some others on the island. But for sunsets, continue down the road just a bit further and off to the right you'll see a parking area at the bottom of a small hill. Pull in there and there's a long wooden bench for people to sit and watch the amazing sunsets from here. The best part was that this is where the "locals" go to watch the sunsets and they were so awesome - telling us all kinds of great stories, how the fishing season is going, explaining how the aquaculture around the island works, recommending where to eat... We took some AMAZING sunset photos night after night after night and there's a great beach there that you can walk down to and do some beachcombing while you wait for the sun to set. See more..

  13. 4.5 World's Largest Axe (43 reviews)
    - Lovely Diversion off the Highway
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    World's Largest Axe image
When driving to Fredericton, the signs said, "World's Largest Axe," so I thought, "why not?" It was a superb 20-minute diversion indeed. It's only a 5 minute drive or so, over the St. John River (on a cool bridge at that) and then you'll see it. Free to walk up to it, free to take pictures, it's a cool thing indeed and my wife and I both appreciated it quite a bit. A definite must-see if you're heading to Fredericton, from the West, trust me on that! See more..
  14. 4.5 City Hall (36 reviews)
    - What a nice surprise!
Spent < 1 hour Visitor Centers • Points of Interest & Landmarks
    City Hall image
Fredericton's City Hall, built in 1876, is the oldest one still in use in the Maritimes. Visitors are welcomed to the City at the Visitor Information Centre located in the lobby, and can tour the Council Chamber, see the restored clockworks and a series of commemorative tapestries which are on permanent display. *Until 1952, the square in front of the building was used as a public farmer’s market. • *During the late 1800s and early 1900s, the 2nd floor was used as an Opera House, and was the entertainment center of the city. • *The clock is hand wound every day. The hands are 8 ft. long and made out of copper. • *In 2013, the fountain in front of City Hall was restored to its original 3-tiered height. The cherub atop the fountain is affectionately known by locals as “Freddy the Nude Dude”, although his formal title is “Putto with Fish.” See more..

    Salmon Plaza Monument image
Love statues and commemorative things, revolving around fish. It's a great statue and quite-detailed, in addition to the symbolism behind it. Sure it's not worth more than a couple of minutes to look at, but the park/grounds it is on, are a great way to spend a couple of hours, if you wish. See more..

  23. 4.0 Campbellton Range Rear Lighthouse (16 reviews)
    - Elegant!
Points of Interest & Landmarks • Lighthouses
    Campbellton Range Rear Lighthouse image
Didn't see much of it, as it was at night, but what an elegant lighthouse! I wasn't sure if it was real or just a replica, but reading the below reviews have shed some light (pun intended) on the reality. The reds are a little bit drabber and off-hue than the reds of other lighthouses we saw on our trip, but since this one isn't legitimate, that could be the reason why. Still, a great monument to see, while you eat lunch across the street, under a gazebo. Lots of (free!) parking too. See more..
  24. 5.0 Bill Thorpe Walking Bridge (16 reviews)
    - “World’s Longest Walking Bridge”
Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Bridges • Scenic Walking Areas
    Bill Thorpe Walking Bridge image
Formerly known as the Fredericton Railway Bridge, it is now strictly pedestrian traffic, although cyclists and sometimes “e-bikes” use it. It crosses the Saint John River from the CBD to the former community of South Devon in a leisurely 15 minutes. It is part of New Brunswick’s Sentier Trail System and of course the Trans Canada Trail. Claims to be the World’s Longest Walking Bridge - but I didn’t know bridges could walk…(LOL). Apparently in excess of 600,000 use it every year. See more..
  25. 4.0 Cape Spencer Lighthouse (14 reviews)
    - Fond Memories

    Cape Spencer Lighthouse image
My wife grew up on this lonely point. Her Father was the Lighthouse Keeper. We love returning to this spot remembering the personal sacrifice a family would make to guide others safely home. Every lighthouse is a beautiful sight to those whose lives depended on them. This forlorn lighthouse brought safe passage home to generations of fisherman every night. The cottages at the top of the hill is where two families lived working in shifts to maintain this Lighthouse. See more..

    Head Harbour Lightstation image
This site is fabulous. East coast scenery at its best in the Campobello area. You can see Deer Island & Easport Maine from this site. Bring you binoculars & cameras. The day we were there the whales were also active in the bay. Low tide is essential in order to take in this site. You walk on the floor of the bay & rock outcroppings at low tide for access to the lighthouse. There are 3 sets of very steep stairs to access the ighthouse itself. Individuals should be aware that this trek to the lighthouse requires a lot of physical exertion. A small fee ($5) is applicable. See more..

Take the free ferry from Ingalls Head to White Island. Yes, it is free and you can take your car. Take the road to the right as you leave the ferry and follow signs to the lighthouse. The lighthouse itself is not all that exceptional, but the beach there is stunning, a great place for a picnic and for beach combing. The cobble stones give way to blue-gray rocks along the shore. The coarse sand in some spots is also blue against a backdrop of yellow flowers. Definitely a highlight of our brief trip to Grand Manan Island! See more..

Shep - The World's Largest Semi-palmated Sandpiper image
I heard of this quirky pit-stop in a guide book and giggled to myself in anticipation of seeing the world's largest anything. Spoiler alert it wasn't as big as I had thought and I had hoped for more of an explanation. I did read elsewhere that Dorchester is known for having a large(Est?) population of sandpipers so the statue is relevant. The statue sits on the town hall green and there is a parking area across the street; so if you want a picture with it like I did you will have to run across a two-way street. --- Bottom line: If you have time to stop by then why not?
