With over 500 vessels launched off of our shores, the vessels built here sailed all over the world and brought back ideas and architectural designs which the Captains, wealthy shipbuilders, and mariners applied to the construction of their own homes. The shipbuilding and lumbering industry in the area once supported a population of nearly 4000 people. The Quaco Museum attempts to do justice to the vibrant past of St Martins by preserving and promoting our history through exhibits, activities, and education. I follow this venue on Facebook, and I have wanted to visit for years - I’m English, but have family heritage from Moncton. Having written ahead, I had an interesting appointment with the museum’s wonderful genealogist - Betty - who also shed plenty of light on the amazing Muriel Lutes Sikorski. Muriel was a very impressive local businesswoman! I was then shown around the museum exhibits by a lovely, engaging and funny lad called Max, who was ably assisted by his equally lovely colleague, Kate. They’re all such warm, generous people, with a genuine love for their work and environment. The exhibits themselves benefit by not being hidden behind glass, and as they are in the natural setting of a lovingly restored old church, you can really feel the history and imagine how it was for local people “back in the day”. Entrance was free, but I was very, very happy to make a donation. Highly recommended!See more..

Had the pleasure of visiting Minto last weekend and stopped into this hidden gem. From the moment we arrived, Griffin was outstanding. He remembered my name and who I was from a brief telephone conversation we had had 10 days prior, when I first phoned in to verify the museums hours and location. Excellent hospitality right from the start! The displays and artifacts were also extremely impressive and the hard work that went into this facility cannot be ignored. Such important history for NB and for the entire country. I highly recommend anyone visiting the province to go out of their way and stop in. You WILL NOT be disappointed. And I hope that you will also have the incredible opportunity of having Griffin as your guide. Such a professional, passionate, intelligent, thoughtful ambassador who goes out of his way to make your experience awesome. The museum is so fortunate to have people like him there. 5.0Musée Des Cultures Fondatrices(1 review) - Outstanding local museum. Saturday: 11:00 AM - 6:00 PM Speciality Museums • History Museums
We stopped here enroute from Caraquet to Bathurst. We didn’t expect much, but the museum contains so much information about the history of New Brunswick. We were offered the option of a guide or a self tour. We went with the guide who explained lots of the exhibits and the history and allowed us time to read the various information boards. Ironically, we learnt much more about Lord Beaverbrook here than we did in Lord Beaverbrook’s house in Miramichi. Great little museum, well worth a stop.See more..
Connor, the curator was very knowledgeable and pleasant. I liked the anvil, Bellows and harrow best. The old piano was worth seeing. The art gallery section, had works by Judith Baxter, I loved. I spend about 30 minutes in here looking around. I was also given information on other local attractions. A fine use of my time. Entrance is by donation.See more..
