The zoo is one of my favorites as it has many varieties of animals, birds, fishes, etc., a showground and an amusement park. It is a large zoo and it takes a good 2-3 hours to walk around leisurely. One could feed the tigers and lions from inside a caged car, to get a close encounter with these wild animals. They are extremely fast in seizing the chicken meat. A must-see in Shenzhen. Go on a sunny day with relatively cool weather; the animals and birds will appear very active and happy. On a hot, cold or rainy day, they will normally hide away. See more..

Winding boardwalks and concrete trails along the shoreline of the Liuxi River section of the park on a very warm July morning made for a comfortable “hike”. Calm blue water with fish lazily dining on surface entertained us as did the bird life. Few amenities in the park, so expect a nice walk and the need to entertain yourself. See more..

Baishuidai Park is a gem! a series of well maintained trails thru the hills, leading to some great attractions, this is a perfect place to spend the day. There is enough to keep you busy for hours, an 11 story pagoda atop the hill, a nature trail around a small pond, a collection of shrines and temples to what I assume are local deities, and some hiking trails that I have not been on. It is very popular with the locals, so it might not be the best place to go for solitude, but the natural beauty, the views, and the attractions make it worth your time. Go there! See more..

My wife and I work at Guangdong Ocean University, and we take every opportunity to visit all the historical sites in the area. When we heard about the botanical garden, we jumped at the chance to take a three-wheeled bike from our campus to visit it. When we arrived we were sadly disappointed with the maintenance and upkeep of the garden. At the time, it was overgrown and in many places quite wild and not worth the price of admission. It is a great place if you just want to fish and BBQ. If you want to visit, take either a taxi (35-50 from Xiashan) or the number 9 bus (4 RMB from Xiashan) to Guangdong Ocean University (Hai Da), and then rent a three-wheeled motor bike at the entrance to the campus. Try to get the 3-wheel bike driver to wait for you, but he/she will not be able to speak English and will try to over charge you. In front of the campus, you can also rent a bike for less than 5 RMB. If you take a bike: 1. Ride up the hill 2. Take a right at the top 3. Follow the road until you get to the deer park on the right (you'll be able to smell it) 4. Take a right at the deer park 5. - Great place if you don't have great expectation

Located in the tip of the peniuslar. You will take around at least 2 hours drive from Huizhou or Shenzhen to reach the nature reserve. There is only a dirty little house (like a wet market elsewhere in China) so called as "Turtle College" for tourist to see both little and giant turtle. Most tourist ignored the sign of "dont touch the turtle" and even take them out of water for photography. If you are turtle lovers, it would be great to pay a visit. See more..

This is a winding drive in the mountains and forests above (and to the east of) Jiaoling on a deserted and very winding road. There really isn't anywhere to stop except: (1) at the city's water reservoir and (2) at the Buddha Tree temple (which is a separate attraction). Nevertheless the views are often spectacular (especially on a day on which the mountains appear in and out of the clouds).
