Overgrown and not well kept
My wife and I work at Guangdong Ocean University, and we take every opportunity to visit all the historical sites in the area. When we heard about the botanical garden, we jumped at the chance to take a three-wheeled bike from our campus to visit it. When we arrived we were sadly disappointed with the maintenance and upkeep of the garden. At the time, it was overgrown and in many places quite wild and not worth the price of admission. It is a great place if you just want to fish and BBQ. If you want to visit, take either a taxi (35-50 from Xiashan) or the number 9 bus (4 RMB from Xiashan) to Guangdong Ocean University (Hai Da), and then rent a three-wheeled motor bike at the entrance to the campus. Try to get the 3-wheel bike driver to wait for you, but he/she will not be able to speak English and will try to over charge you. In front of the campus, you can also rent a bike for less than 5 RMB. If you take a bike: 1. Ride up the hill 2. Take a right at the top 3. Follow the road until you get to the deer park on the right (you'll be able to smell it) 4. Take a right at the deer park 5. Follow that road until the end and take a left 6. The botanical garden will be on your right a little ways down the road
