   Having visited this park many times I feel that I can give an accurate review, so here goes. Most importantly(this being China)it is mostly very clean and tidy considering the amount of people that visit it. If you are lucky you may see some kind of event, or groups of Chinese demonstrating Tai Qi. If boating is your thing there is a reasonably large lake where you can hire a boat. There is also a small exhibit of animals, and some fairground rides for younger children. Refreshments are available inside the park and locally at fast food shops and street vendors, but I personally would not recommend the street vendors. See more..

   Went out for a bikerun on Sunday, and decided to go up to Huguangyan Scenic Area, about 24 km from Wanda where I am staying. The area is very nice, and worth the trip. A nice walk around (7,5 km) the lake. The scenery is beautiful, but shows sign of lacking maintenance if you look abit outside the walk path. Many places to eat and many good clean toilets, so in general a good place. Would benefit all if more info signs translated to English. There is a few caves, but they are for unknown reason closed of ( maintenance?, or lack of?) The entrance fee is 50 RMB For a Sunday trip, it is nice, and if you go by bicycle it is recommended to follow the country road from town, then you are only exposed to the highway for a few km.     This island is amazing if you want to enjoy the peaceful village life. there are many beautiful homes and even a few village temples to visit. The mangroves are breath-taking, and there are a couple "resorts" that offer a comfortable place to stay. You will need to take a ferry from the harbor in Xiashan to get there, or you can pay a motor boat driver to take you there. See more..

    Came to visit this island with the hospitality of one of my local friend. We reached in time to catch the 10am ferry across the island. After that we drive around and had our lunch at the local seafood restaurant over looking the sea with fishermen off loading their catch of the day. We also visited the turtle farm and the lighthouse. Overall it was a good day of sightseeing. The volcanic structures of the rock is amazing. One can chose to stay a night on the island with cheap accommodation. Is better to drive your own vehicle to go across. See more..

    Don't expect much, Zhanjiang has not done so well in keeping and maintaining its historical colonial heritage, like other coastal locations such as Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Xiamen, Shanghai, Qingdao, or others. This is unfortunate. Essentially, if I understood a couple of locals explanations correctly, the previous colonial buildings were destroyed or torn down by local authorities around the time of the cultural revolution. Currently, there are only a handful of colonial buildings scattered throughout the Zhanjiang municipality, namely a Saint Victor Church, a lighthouse on Naozhou island, colonial/chinese administrative buildings dating back to 100+ years ago. The French Minister department building, is nice to see, near the coast line running north-south in Xiashan district. It is also nearby the Saint Victor Catholic church, so makes for a short walk to visit the 2 in 1 go. I did not go inside as it was evening time. See more..

    One of the few colonial buildings left over since the territory was ceded back to the Chinese by the French. It may not be the biggest, or most impressive building, but built in 1900, it's nice to see something survive though the turbulent times of the 20th century. There used to be another colonial church in town, but it was torn down by the Chinese when they refused to convert to a temporary make-shift factory. Whereass the care-takers of Saint Victor agreed, and enabled it to survive until it got the chance to revert back to its original function. The church is still fully functioning, and serves the local Christian community. The care-taker there is very friendly: he opened up the door after closing hours so we could visit and even invited us to join mass the next morning (we didn't go.... :-/). It is also close to the French Minister Department colomnial building so easy to visit both. See more..

    My wife and I work at Guangdong Ocean University, and we take every opportunity to visit all the historical sites in the area. When we heard about the botanical garden, we jumped at the chance to take a three-wheeled bike from our campus to visit it. When we arrived we were sadly disappointed with the maintenance and upkeep of the garden. At the time, it was overgrown and in many places quite wild and not worth the price of admission. It is a great place if you just want to fish and BBQ. If you want to visit, take either a taxi (35-50 from Xiashan) or the number 9 bus (4 RMB from Xiashan) to Guangdong Ocean University (Hai Da), and then rent a three-wheeled motor bike at the entrance to the campus. Try to get the 3-wheel bike driver to wait for you, but he/she will not be able to speak English and will try to over charge you. In front of the campus, you can also rent a bike for less than 5 RMB. If you take a bike: 1. Ride up the hill 2. Take a right at the top 3. Follow the road until you get to the deer park on the right (you'll be able to smell it) 4. Take a right at the deer park 5.
