It is a nice place to see an ancient kiln built during the Ming Dynasty (1500s). The entrance fee is 25 RMB. You can pay by AliPay or WeChat Pay. You can see a lot of ceramic/pottery. Also, there are different vendors available as well for you to purchase your own pottery. On the right side of the main entrance where you can go visit the restrooms, there are available shows for you to watch. (Maybe 8 shows). You can watch a clown make balloons and spin the colander. He also interacts with the audience. Afterwards, you can see a pottery master show you how to sculpt firsthand. Less commercialization, less touts, less vendors of tacky souvenirs. The entrance ticket is reasonable at 80RMB, and it is worth climbing up the diaolou open for public viewing for some nice views. Allow yourself a couple of hours for just the diaolou, more if stopping in the village for lunch. See more..

Very nice park to explore. This park features a small amusement area with a few rides for small children. There is also a BBQ area and a skating rink. You can also rent fishing equipment and do some fishing or rent a paddle boat and cruise around the lake. For some good exercise climb the many stair paths to the caves and temples. Look for the ancient rock carvings and ring the enormous bell at the top of the hill. Many people come here to light incense and give offerings. There are also many wide open spaces to stretch out or small secluded places to gather your thoughts. This place has something for everyone. See more..

what is excellent over here is the area is quite secluded from hordes of tourist, meaning that one can have lesiurely walk and explore around nooks and corners of the huge complex of the residence with over 500rooms! most with intricate details of window and door frames, courtyards, halls that's influenced by arabeques techniques, chinese, european and much south east asian characteristics. highly recommended before its get commercialized. but the transportation is a bit of a challenge if travel by own. This is a little out of the way to get to and parking is terrible. It costs 30 rmb to enter and at the time of writing you need clear covid testing on the app and a facemask. There are some places to eat and get drinks and snacks. It is interesting to see the way people lived a few hundred years ago. If you are interested in architecture and want to get some great photo opportunities it is worth visiting. There are also some guest houses so it is possible to stay overnight. I enjoyed it. It's the 2nd stop on the train out of Shenzhen (1st is Pinghu). The ticket is 39.50 yuan as of December 2016. Do visit if you want to see a city that still has that village flavour. Worth a day trip. It's really boomed since when I was here 10 years ago. Walk out of the train station through a tunnel and you are in the smack center so don't get a ride from the ride hagglers tugging at you at the station exit. Lots of your typical big city brand name shops but also lots of little shops and eateries. If you are doing a day trip from Shenzhen (and you need only a day trip), do get the roundtrip as there are always long lines at the Zhangmutou (ZMT) train station, plus no one will speak English in ZMT to help you buy your ticket back. You can always hop on any train at another hour, the tickets are flexible as long as you travel on the date of your ticket. See more..

Songjing is an easy one-hour or so hike around an old 12th century complex & ruins. The original inhabitants had fled the Mongol Invasion and stayed in this area. While it's mostly woods & a beach, there's a well-paved hiking trail which is easily walkable, given time to take pictures, in an hour or so. In the old days, at noon, Canon gun shot was fired on daily basis at the top of the mountain by the tower. There would be some stairs climbing to the top. At the entrance by Sun Wen road, there is a statue of Dr. Sun Yat Sen and his wife, lady Song. Half way to the top, there is a nice little temple where you can pay respect to Buddha. We have visited various diaolou in Kaiping area. This is the most beautiful dialou. It is worth a visit. There are plenty of photo opportunities !!! If you have a 360 camera, bring it with you. The tallest dialou in here is privately owned. So you will need to pay additional entry fee to get in. There is someone there to explain to u briefly about this place and what to expect in each floors. He will also show you photos that can be taken. Not a lot of tourist. So you can take your time and walk around. Worth every bit. Would come back again. There is a car park for cars. See more..

What do you do in a AAAA scenic spot in China?! Trying to avoid tourist groups that want to take a photo with you instead of the minority people living there. On one hand it's nice that these places get this title and the government spends some money on preserving it. On the other hand most of that money lands in the pocket of local governments. The locals (Yao Zu) try their best to do business, selling dried herbs, nuts and the like. I felt a bit harassed by some vendors, trying to sell their goods by saying "help me - buy something from me - I haven't sold anything today". Anyways, upon arriving - we drove by car - we were welcomed by a young girl trying to get us to sleep at their families house. We preferred to walk around and try to find our own stay. As I always say, the best things happen when you go to a bar, said and done. The owner of "Golden Stone Bar" (得金石酒吧) is a pure and honest person who happens to have a guest room too, so that's were we stayed for two days. We asked him and his family to eat together so we could sample more of their local dishes - and their Mijiu too ;) It's a bit more complicated to arrive with public transport as mentioned by another reviewer. But if you decide to go, you should definitely stay over night, sit down and breathe the history of the village. There's a minority dance going on but it's done for Chinese tourists and none of the dancers looked like they're enjoying this. Instead we paid two cool old guys sitting somewhere hidden, smoking their pipes and they happily performed their drum dance. Awesome mountain formations, similar to Guilin and beautiful mountain roads. Very good place to shoot rural live of Yao people's lives! Go there - support them to keep this alive. Daqitou village is situated near Leping city, Guangdong Province. You can get there by bus from JiaoKou bus station to Leping, and then walk ~1.5-2km along the road. Entrance ticket costs only 10 Yuan. Inside you can find a pond, a park around it, small pagoda, statue of general Zheng, museum, and, sure, a village itself. Walking within village on its roads, entering houses, and sometimes going up to second floor is really exciting. There're no many tourists, so you can enjoy silence too. Recommended time to spend is around 3 hours. So, including road from and to Guangzhou, it will be a half of day. See more..

It's a small attraction in the middle of the city which has a lot of history. Go to the second story and speak to the attendant. He is helpful but speaks only mandarin and the local dialect. He is able to share the history and also point you to other attractions around the city. The rally helpful. Do take note that there are two staircase leading to the second story and only one side is openable. For those who do not have the stomach for local food, there is a fast food restaurant nearby. Was nearly empty when I visited, which allowed me to enjoy the site. The shrine was quite a pleasant surprise, as these type of historical sites seem to be very rare within the actual city limits of Jiangmen. In addition to the shrine there was also a pleasant walk with a long winding mural (of Chen Baisha's life I assume) and a view into the living quarters of the time period. Very interesting. Information was mostly in Chinese, with one exhibit being bilingual in Chinese and some language written in Arabic script (possibly Uighur?). No English in this section which was a shame. See more..

Very good if you know some background about Liang Qichao, nice scenery from the roads on the way. Refreshments available on site. Information is given in both English and Chinese so you can tour your way through without a guide. There are also arrows directing where to go and indications of the order the information and displays are meant to me read and seen. There is a more modern structure as well as a traditional Chinese one so one can enjoy the best of both worlds. There is also a nice place for photos (a little balcony/pavillion-esque near the back). Don't expect much, Zhanjiang has not done so well in keeping and maintaining its historical colonial heritage, like other coastal locations such as Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Xiamen, Shanghai, Qingdao, or others. This is unfortunate. Essentially, if I understood a couple of locals explanations correctly, the previous colonial buildings were destroyed or torn down by local authorities around the time of the cultural revolution. Currently, there are only a handful of colonial buildings scattered throughout the Zhanjiang municipality, namely a Saint Victor Church, a lighthouse on Naozhou island, colonial/chinese administrative buildings dating back to 100+ years ago. The French Minister department building, is nice to see, near the coast line running north-south in Xiashan district. It is also nearby the Saint Victor Catholic church, so makes for a short walk to visit the 2 in 1 go. I did not go inside as it was evening time. See more..

Туристов тут очень мало, хотя все надписи продублированы по-английски. Доехать можно на рейсовом автобусе, который уходит с автостанции Чаочжоу примерно каждый час. Heshan's Gulao Village is comprised of agricultural farmland and fish ponds. The village has about 5,000 people, mostly peasants. Gulao contains many historical Chinese residential buildings. Many of the original buildings are over 100 years old. it is a quaint village showing the how many Chinese used to live. As many buildings are old, they do not have toilets, they use out-houses as bathrooms. In a restaurant, you can feed 10 people with fish, beer, chicken, rice and soup for about RBM150 or USD20. Given that there are fish ponds and farms are so prevalent in Gulao, eating fresh organic food is very cheap. The only issue I had was the hygiene. Toilets often do not have running water. And, soap is almost non-existent. In the restaurant, flies are everywhere...so be prepared. You may want to get Dukoral and/or Twinrix before you go there. See more..

This is actually not a cave, it is a spring that origins in the mountains. You can walk along the water on a beautiful path. We havent walked up completely as i heard it gets very steep and the best part is anyway the first few hundred meters. The story is - as i heard - when the 6th generation buddha died, his bride went up to the mountain to cry. While she did that one of the rocks bursted and the spring started to flow. You can see many ppl praying there on different places - right at the entrance there is a bigger temple area. This place is not so crowded and quite peaceful. There is also some kind of traditional market where you can find some souveniers. Entrance is free but they charge 5rmb per motorbike. See more..

A very distinctive valley, and the warm welcome of the Yao people make this a nice getaway from Shaoguan. The traditional, colorful clothes, and the exuberant dancing they perform is fun to experience. The river and valley are beautiful, and the steep slopes lined with planting terraces makes for excellent dreamy gazing and admiration. They will kind of 'herd' you to the outdoor performance center, but the dances and drumming are cool to watch, and participate in, if you want. Just be careful, the little cup they give you when you arrive on the other side of the river is not water, but their homemade liquor! (which many of us just gulped, cause it was hot). The vendors back out near the road can be a little too pushy, but some do have some nice embroidery stuff. Call ahead if you plan to visit, and they will feed you a good lunch too. See more..

If you are interested in Hakka culture, this is an interesting well-preserved village. We visited mid week and so wandered the village without crowds. The size of the carpark indicated that it would be very busy at weekends. It looked like there were performances on at times also. You could easily spend 2 hours wandering.
