3 Star Places To Visit in North Dakota, United States (50)

  1. 3.5 Splasher's of the South Seas (120 reviews)
    - Expensive but fun
    Monday: Water Parks
Splasher's of the South Seas image
Its a great place for families from babies to grandparents. There are private cabanas you can rent and plenty of deck chairs to relax in. There are lifeguards, which is rare for a hotel pool. The hot tub is enormous. Some things to note: the pool towels are very rough, even for the usual low-grade pool towels in hotels everywhere. You can't bring in your own food or drinks. If you are a guest of the hotel, you must pay separately to access the water park, and you can only use your passes the day you arrive (no last minute morning swim before check-out). Just some things to consider when planning your stay :) See more..
  2. 3.0 Sky Dancer Hotel and Casino (63 reviews)
    - New Remodel looks great - - -that is about it
    Casinos
Sky Dancer Hotel and Casino image
I stay in the area often for work and this is one of the only decent places to stay but I may have to go to the local hotel in Rolla for now on. The rooms there may look like I'm a hunter but at least the service is good. The remodel of the Casino (I use little) is actually nice. The new hotel looks great but I always have small problems (no hot water) that the hotel staff seems to care little of when I bring it up. Most recently I got in later (10pm) from work and was going to go on to 'Grillerz' for a late supper. Website said they were open until 12:30 - I called and they had closed at 9:30. Probably update your website to say 'open until we are closed'. Lazy - Lazy staff. Every time I'm here. I will not be staying, gambling at this property again. See more..
  3. 3.5 Japanese Gardens (59 reviews)
    - Beautiful Autumn Colors
    Gardens
    Japanese Gardens image
The bright color of the autumn leaves was pretty awesome on my walk through the Japanese Garden this afternoon. I still see the traditional Japanese lanterns gifted to Grand Forks by our sister city, Awano, Japan, as a wonderful token of friendship. However, the rest of the landscape is looking pretty sad. The water/coulee was full of bright green algae. The grass that was once so lush in this area has been trampled underfoot and has left many bare spots in the grass where people have walked. This place needs a revival! Some sprucing up! Some TLC! Some care and maintenance. This place used to look pretty amazing during any time of the year, but today, not so much. See more..
  4. 3.5 Alerus Center (55 reviews)
    - Nice location
Monday: 8:00 AM - 5:30 PM Spent 2-3 hours Sports Complexes • Convention Centers
    Alerus Center image
Alerus Center is the region's largest venue of its type. The facility boasts a 100,000 square feet of arena space that is used for football, vendor shows, conventions, and ticket entertainment shows. There's also 60,000 square feet of conference center space that hosts weddings, banquets, meetings, and conventions. The venue hosts over 400 events a year. See more..
  5. 3.0 Dakota Magic Casino (53 reviews)
    - Nice variety of machines, friendly staff
    Casinos
    Dakota Magic Casino image
My wife and I visited for a few hours of slot machine fun. It had been many years since we were there and had heard they remodeled. First experience was staff at the players club were very friendly and helpful. We both had fun with a good variety of slots available. The remodel really helped the look and it was visually appealing. A few minor knocks would be 1 of the 2 beverage stations was out of order, meant a lot of people at the only working one. Also, as a non-smoker the constant smoke everywhere is annoying but that's the case at all casinos. Others in the area offer a non-smoking area, this one does not. Overall it was a nice visit and we'll visit again, especially since we walked out about a little bit richer! See more..
  6. 3.5 Keelboat Park (48 reviews)
    - Nice place to see a piece of American History
Spent < 1 hour Bodies of Water • Biking Trails • Parks
    Keelboat Park image
Keelboats were an important means of transportation in this part of the Missouri River. They carried goods and people along and across the river. The park has an authentic Keelboat that kids can climb on and which gives you a picture of what these boats were like. Great view of the river from here and great place to watch people enjoying themselves along the river. See more..
  7. 3.0 4 Bears Casino (42 reviews)
    - Under construction and renovation
    Casinos
    4 Bears Casino image
Some of the slot machines are a little dated. The hotel is under renovation with new furniture and mattresses and there is a new event centre being built. The food at the buffet is typical casino buffet food and the snack bar service is slow and the food is mediocre. The main bar in the casino needs to be addressed as the staff appear to be confused as to what is available during happy hour and how to implement free drink coupons. Prices of drinks changed with who was serving. We were part of a tour bus package and the casino did offer promotions but this is someplace we would not attend on our own. See more..
  8. 3.5 Perch Patrol (26 reviews)
    - Perch patrol first trip to devils
    Fishing Charters & Tours
    Perch Patrol image
We had an awesome first trip to devils lake. We got there during the first cold front of the year and tom did a fantastic job keeping us on fish and made the right decisions to have us hold tight instead of moving. We would definitely book with perch patrol and Tom again. We caught a lot of fish and have plenty for fish tacos and fish fry. Zach See more..
  9. 3.5 Red River Valley Fairgrounds (21 reviews)
    - Another great year at the fair...
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Red River Valley Fairgrounds image
I have lived in the area for four years and have been going out to the fairgrounds for the past three years for the Red River Valley Fair. It is usually held in July and every year there is something different to entertain the visitors. This year they had a great reptile show and a rather corny pirate diving show (more for the children) and all the usual food and rides. Bonanzaville is also open and free to all paid fair guests- its only worth the visit if it’s free. You can sign-up on the fairs facebook page to receive coupons via email and they even had a discounted facebook fan day. There is free parking close to the gate, or you can pay $3 for parking that is a little closer. It is a great few hours out in West Fargo for people of all ages. See more..
  10. 3.5 Fargo Civic Center (18 reviews)
    - better than the Fargodome
Monday: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM Convention Centers
    Fargo Civic Center image
It is a big improvement over the Fargodome. Although it is older, it is more user-friendly as far as layout. Seating is better, there is no charge for parking, there is a simple but nice large grassy courtyard right in front of the front doors. In downtown area. See more..
  11. 3.5 Riverwalk of Minot (15 reviews)
    - Scenic
    Hiking Trails
This was something different! We walk every day, and here we saw some beautiful sights even though they are still cleaning up from the devestating flood, they are working so hard to get this and the zoo going! We saw two types of turtles in the river, cranes, geese and several types of ducks, herons and schools of fish, met some very nice local people who shared their stories. A very pleasurable experience, thank you North Dakota, will be back next year! See more..
  12. 3.5 Prairie Nights Casino (14 reviews)
    - Good game selection
    Casinos
    Prairie Nights Casino image
Really good selection of games to play and bar staff was fairly friendly. The cost of a draft beer was $3.50, a little high. It would be nice if you could order drinks from your machine. For the most part, we had to go to the bar for drinks-wait staff wasn't around very often. See more..
  13. 3.5 Grand Forks Town Square (13 reviews)
    - Saturday’s Farmers Market! Yeah!
    Spent 1-2 hours Farmers Markets
    Grand Forks Town Square image
BUSY! BOOMING! There were A LOT of people here for the Farmers Market this first Saturday morning of August. So many things to choose from. Excited vendors and farmers were selling their wares and works to the public in Downtown Grand Forks in the Town Square. Be prepared to wait, or plan on getting here early so that you don’t have to wait on line for your desired purchase. Patience would be helpful as well. People do not move fast here, and that is OK! Besides the vendors, it is always great to have the local food trucks and trailers here as well! Heck yeah! The Farmers Market is certainly an event you don’t want to miss! Relax! Enjoy! Partake! Huff Hills Ski Area image
This place was so fun. What skiing used to be. Small, family oriented, very low cost, and pretty darn good skiing for the mid west. Grooming was high quality too. The real fireplace was perfect. Then there is the hospitability, Pat and the owner were so nice and helpful. When there was no one getting food, he and the grill staff played cards. See more..

  21. 3.0 Killdeer Mountain Battlefield State Historic Site (6 reviews)
    - Picturesque and Historical
    Battlefields
Killdeer Mountain Battlefield State Historic Site image
I visited the battlefield yesterday afternoon. It was a little confusing to find, but there are signs both wooden and metal now. It is set in a very pretty area near a large pond. There is a picnic table, two graves and the rock monument. The parking area is handy. The "Private Property Rules" signs are a little threatening. I don't know the whole story of why the property owner has posted such signs with lists, but I am sure he has his reasons. Still, they make a person uncomfortable as one expects to be yelled at for any number of imagined violations. Aside from the signs, I would recommend a visit to this battlefield. We can't let history be forgotten. See more..

Thor's and the Old Mill Grill image

This restored Depot in Minot houses a good selection of Railroad Memorabilia and is sited right next to conventional running lines. Cassie is really excellent at customer service. Fun place. A person must be careful when leaving. The Tioga police sit outside and wait to harass people who leave. Be careful. Tioga cops don't have much fondness for that little piece of paper called the Constitution. See more..

    Grand Theater image
Grand Theatre in Oakes has weekend movies and occasionally shows them on Monday night. Recently went to "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty." The Grand has the new digital system with surround sound that was clear! Seems to be a nice local independent theatre with fresh popcorn and REAL butter! Theatre was clean with comfortable seats and there was no line. Just down the street is the Angry Beaver Lodge which was nice for a nightcap and review of the movie with friends. See more..
  29. 3.0 Columbia Mall (4 reviews)
    - Only a Memory of a Bustling Past
    Spent 1-2 hours Shopping Malls
    Columbia Mall image
What once was the heart of Grand Forks, a bustling place where people shopped, ate, played, met up... is now only a memory, a shell of its glory days. It’s very sad to see all of the empty store locations. It seems like the two main businesses that keep people returning to Columbia Mall today are #1 Scheels, and #2 JCPenny. Kudos to all of the businesses that remain in Columbia Mall. It can’t be easy. Remember when it was so easy to shop for everything you need under one roof? It’s not that way today. I miss so many of the awesome businesses that they use to have located here. Cheers to the days of old! See more..

  31. 3.5 Riverdale High Lodge Knights Bar & Grill (3 reviews)
    - Quaint, Quiet and Very Comfortable
    Bars & Clubs
We were actually sort of lost when we discovered a brochure that mentioned the Riverdale High Lodge. We were very surprised to find the place an actually an old high school. The rooms are large and furnished in farmstyle furniture. The beds are comfortable and have actual quilts on them. There is a small dining table and chairs and the rooms is furnished with a big screen TV. We have not stayed in a place as quiet as this, and with a bar and grill right in the building. Loved the place! We were sorry we could only stay one night. The only complait I had was that the shower did not have a light in it and the toilet did not have a cover for the seat. Staff is awesome. Be aware that if there you cannot find a person to check in with, just walk down the hall to the bar and grill. Sometimes the check-in staff is also the waitress in the bar and grill. See more..

  35. 3.0 Lake Ilo National Wildlife Refuge (3 reviews)
    - Serene refuge, a good place for bird watching
Spent 1-2 hours Bodies of Water • Nature & Wildlife Areas
This nature area was right off highway 200 and was a perfect stop for our tail-gate picnic. We found the refuge to be wonderfully maintained, with several natural areas for viewing water fowl and other wildlife. As another reviewer mentioned, we agree that the refuge was peaceful. Although the landscape in other areas of the county were dotted with fixtures from the current oil boom, we found the refuge to be serene and picturesque. See more..

I was impressed by the quality of the clothing, jewellery and other merchandise. See more..

While we were visiting friends in Devils Lake, we asked if anyone knew of a fun golf course to go to on our way back to Fargo. This place was recommended. We went and played nine holes. We walked it, but you can also rent golf carts. The course was a pleasure to play on. Nicely maintained fairways and greens. It is the best golf game I have played in a long time. The scenery was lovely too. See more..

  47. 3.0 Pocket Aces Lounge (1 review)
    - friendly place, daily drink specials, popcorn
Bars & Clubs • Karaoke Bars
    Pocket Aces Lounge image
Pocket Aces Lounge is located in a room near the table games at 4 Bears Casino. The main casino is nonsmoking while the lounge is one of two areas that allow smoking. There is also a smoking room at the other end of the Casino with a lot of older slots. There are a few slot machines and counter (bar) top games in the lounge. The daily drink specials and entertainment are listed on the website. I've had the pitcher of beer $4 special (Mondays). A great deal! Being a nonsmoker, I prefer not to spend too much time in the lounge, plus the music can get very loud. It's a disappointment that the popcorn machine is not always on. On Monday I got freshly popped popcorn but another day there was no popcorn. See more..
  48. 3.0 Hakuna Matata (1 review)
    - Restaurant & bar
    Bars & Clubs
The restaurant and bar areas are divided, so the restaurant is more family friendly for kids. The food is mostly from frozen or bag (no fresh vegetables, chips out of a bag, etc.). My salad was lettuce from a bag. My steak was served hot, although it was a bit tough, my husband said his patty melt was good. Not much of a dessert selection. The bar side is a very typical small town bar with a good selection of drinks (which were inexpensive). You can also order off the menu in the bar. See more..

  50. 3.0 Martin's Lutheran Church (1 review)
    - Beautiful Stained Glass
    Churches & Cathedrals
I grew up in Casselton, was baptized and confirmed in the old church off Langer Avenue. So when I returned in January for my father's funeral, I was glad to visit the new church inside as we could only peek through the glass door the previous summer. The stained glass windows were preserved from the previous church and were lite up in the sanctuary and have an interesting history. The cross hanging from the ceiling in the entry hall came from not the even older church before the one off Langer Avenue. My grandmother saved the window during the demolition and my uncle found it in their old carriage house and had it restored for an anniversary gift for my aunt. When the new church was built my uncle returned it to the congregation and it was set in this beautiful cross. In the front room, they have also documented the history of the church and I found my confirmation class picture. See more..
