Nice Surprise Indeed! My wife and I were passing through Sioux Falls and we were looking for a place to eat downtown. The surprise... the Downtown Sioux Falls Sculpture Walk! After having lunch, we decided to spend some time walking around downtown before the 4hr+ drive back to Grand Forks. If your plan is to blow by each sculpture without a chance to appreciate them, then this is not for you. If you have some time to really take a look at each sculpture and truly try to appreciate what the artist was trying to do, I think you’d really enjoy the Sculpture Walk. Since our time was limited, we were unable to see all the sculptures. This is a good reason for us to come back to Sioux Falls. I know we missed out on many other works of art. With lots of great places to eat downtown, and sculptures scattered around downtown as well, it was time well spent for us! Merci Beaucoup! (3/21)See more..

4.5Door Trail(246 reviews) - An adventure Hiking Trails
Without a doubt, this is a shorter "must do" hike if you are in the area. The drive up to the trailhead is an adventure as you pass thru LOW and NARROW tunnels along the Needles highway. You must pay $20 at a staffed checkpoint to access the highway and then drive to the trailhead. Please note: this trail is NOT a beginner trail, and it requires some level of fitness to go 1.2 miles (one-way) from the trailhead UP ~500 feet to the Cathedral Spires. There is no scrambling required, but there are areas of steep climb. There is NO infrastructure (well pumps, toilets, etc); so bring your own water.See more..
We spent an extra day in Sioux Falls so we could ride on the Greenway Trail System. We parked at the trail head at Falls park and went around the whole city starting southbound. Beautiful scenery despite a detour in downtown. Otherwise never had to cross a city street. There are plenty of restrooms. If you have little time, park at the falls and go south. There are fewer trees when you approach the airport in the northwest side.See more..

Cathedral Spires trail meets up with a trial that will bring you closer to the top of Little Devils Tower. This was the highlight of our trip. We did the whole Cathedral hike that brings you through crevasses in rock walls and into the spires, had a snake slither across my feet, and then on the way back there is a trail leading to Little Devils Tower trail. On that trail, we had two different times where bucks jumped out right in front of us, only 6 feet away. There are stunning views at the top of Little Devils Tower, bit if you want to go to the top, dogs can't make it and you do need to scamper up the side of rock mountain. Our 10 year old had no trouble making the hike up, but some people were giving up before they made it to the top. See more..

With a quick stop, it took us about 3 hours to get to our camping cabin location at L&C SRA from Omaha, NE. I had not seen many photos of the site where our cabin was located, which is why I decided to take photos to post here on TripAdvisor when we got back from our camping trip. We also rented a pontoon boat from the L&C Marina and had a wonderful time on the lake. We stayed 3 nights in Camping Cabin M in the East Midway section. We have two teens and they loved the time away from home.See more..
This is a great trail that is easy for walking and provides some amazing views both of the Notch and from Cedar Pass overlooking the valley beyond. However, the best thing about this trail that are entire group noticed was the trees. The entire area you walk through is a cedar and Juniper forest where trees are encouraged to grow below the formation of the Notch and Cedar Pass. The trees provide an amazing contrast to the other things that are here, like badland formations. Again the combination of the views and the trees make this an great place to visit if you are in Badlands.See more..
This is a relatively easy 1-mile loop trail with an approximately 250-foot rise in elevation. The climb is slow and steady across a wooded hillside. At the top you are rewarded with wonderful, sweeping views to the east. The descent follows the access road for the fire lookout tower at the top. I highly recommend this trail.See more..
4.5Hell Canyon Trail(9 reviews) - Excellent Day Ride for your Horse Spent 2-3 hours Hiking Trails
Since I am afraid of heights, this was a horseback ride that I am glad I did but will probably not do again. Small parking area so backed trailer in so as to be able to leave without difficulties. Loop to the right (gate at fence) takes you to the valley portion of the ride where you have several water crossings which then climbs up and up to where you are riding on the rim then back down to the parking area. No issues for my horse - the issue was with me. Wish I could have looked out over the trail and down but I could not. Saw mountain sheep and deer. Friendly persons hiking the area. See more..
4.0Wind Cave Canyon Trail(8 reviews) - Easy, family-type trail that did not disappoint! Spent 1-2 hours Hiking Trails
Easy trail just shy of 2 miles one-way, so 3.8ish out and back. you stay on the dirt service road the entire time and traverse through prairies with and w/o shade. KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN because bison roam free on this trail. We had to stop twice due to some Bison bulls on the trail!See more..
4.5Window Trail(8 reviews) - Good View; Incredible Wildlife Hiking Trails
The eastern end of the park has hiking trails and while the Notch and the Door provide longer hikes to explore the badlands, the Window is a short walk to an awesome view. Between the Door and the Notch, the badlands drop off to provide a vista. The window is a gap in the wall that has an NPS barrier to prevent you from falling 100', but provides a great view. (There is another window just north of "The Window" that has no barrier if heights don't scare you.) The view is impressive; however, what made this such a great stop for us was seeing a Bighorn Sheep ram. We were the first to see and inside of a 100' to it when we did. It grazed, walk and then sat posing for amazing pictures. This was a highlight to our Badlands experience.See more..
4.0Elk Mountain Nature Trail(6 reviews) - Where Grasslands and Forest Converge Spent < 1 hour Hiking Trails
The Elk Mountain trail is a 1.2 mile easy loop hike. The hike begins in the Elk Mountain Campground. A sign directs you to the trailhead where you can pick up a trail guide to use at the nine interpretive stops. The hike starts out with a gentle climb through the forest to a ridge line where you will walk through a grasslands area. The trail then reenters the forest as you continue your circle around the far end of the campground eventually ending near the amphitheater. If you need a restroom, you're in luck. We were told that this area is one of the best places in the to see elk. We didn't.See more..

5.0'76 Trail(2 reviews) - Great little hike Hiking Trails
This is a great little hike. The first half of the trail is fairly easy but once you get half way it becomes steeper and a little more challenging where there are small loose rocks. it is a 3/4 mile hike that goes to a lookout at the rim of the canyon above Spearfish Canyon Lodge. It is an easy climb and only steep toward the top. The view is really pretty. You can rest at the top before starting back down. Your legs will get tired going down as they are the brakes! We did encounter a small snake which is to be expected. We didn't rush and the hike took us about an hour and a half.See more..
5.0Boland Ridge(1 review) - Animals, Solitude and a Dirt Road Hiking Trails
Boland Ridge is on the Eastern side of Wind Cave National Park in a an area view visitors see. It can only be accessed by dirt roads. However, for those brave enough to come, the place is magical with animals and something else hard to find in the Black Hills, solitude. We had tried to get up early to see the animals of the Wildlife Loop of Custer State Park; however, none were out. It an effort to get back to Rapid City soon, we decided to take the dirt road to reach the highway between Rapid City and Hot Springs. We saw so many animals buffalo, prairie dogs and turkeys in the dozens. It was not just the types of animals but the number of and the closeness to the road that surprised me. It looked like they were also surprised by us because no one and I mean no one was any where close to the East half of Wind Cave. In a addition to animals, the area has beautiful views of the rolling grass hills. All of it made for pictures.See more..
this is one of the trails located inside the Palisade state park, the trail is not difficult, young kids can walk, it's not a long walk that you can see the balanced walk. 5.0Cold Brook Canyon Trail(1 review) - Experiencing the Plains of Wind Cave Saturday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Hiking Trails
We had intended to hike Rankin Ridge but the road closure made that nearly impossible; therefore, we hiked this trail between the Visitor Center and Hot Springs. This is a 3 mile round trip hike through the plains of Wind Cave that introduces you to flora and fauna of region including a cliff where birds live. On the plain you walk through a prairie dog town where we also saw 3 buffalo. There is something both cool and unnerving about hiking on a trail with 1 ton beast 100 yards from you with no fence. Overall it was a fairly easy hike that allows you to see the Wind Cave above ground. It may not be in a top 50 of National Park hikes but it was enjoyable.See more..
