5.0Sylvan Lake(1.985 reviews) - beautiful lake Spent 1-2 hours Bodies of Water
This lake, situated within the rolling green hills of Custer State Park, is a great spot for a fun day out. The cool waters of the lake are perfect for kayaking, paddle boating, and swimming, and if you're looking for an adventure, you can go on a hike or climb the rocks surrounding the lake. The best time to visit is from late spring to early fall when the weather is warm, and the park is in full swing. The lake is typically a stop on a tour of Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, and Custer State Park. – TripadvisorSee more..

Breathtaking area and beautiful views! Perfect for photography! Stopped here to view and then did a loop around the area between Hill City and Keystone on Hwy 16A. Highly recommend driving this backroad at dusk…..so quiet. Drive very carefully cause we saw lots of deer and Elk everywhere! Some were in middle of road! What a treat to see these beautiful creatures in their natural habitat! Just be careful….. but enjoy nature as it was intended for us to view!See more..
4.5Devil’s Bathtub(98 reviews) - Be prepared! Bodies of Water
Imagine your wife seeing a sign on the side of the road pointing out parking for Devil's Bathtub. Of course, I said "Let's check it out!" The parking lot was packed with no one in sight. My husband, son, and I begin walking along the creek on a narrow path. We come across others returning from their trek, telling us it's well worth it. We keep going along, into the forest, up, down, and around trees, rocks, and cliff faces. Clouds loom over the canopy. We keep going without knowing what lies ahead. Soon lots of people are coming back in swimwear with towels and such. Thunder and sprinkles, but we have come a long way crossing the creek many times on rocks and trees. It has become a path to conquer. We take cover under trees here and there and finally an overhang in the cliff wall. When the rain stops, we find Devil's Bathtub empty of people. What a wonderful hike and a beautiful path. Take water shoes if you can and plan for several hours!See more..

4.0Spearfish City Park(11 reviews) - Wonderful Park!!!! Spent < 1 hour Bodies of Water • Parks • Playgrounds
What an awesome park! You can tell history, education and family are important to the people of Spearfish. It was a super clean, graffiti-gree park with the beautiful spearfish creek swiftly flowing through it. A man was fly fishing, kids were tubing down the creek, families were picnicking, bird chirping... like a Norman Rockwell painting for sure! Lots of historical signage explaining the fish hatchery and other historic buildings on site. The hatchery was very neat - with some of the biggest trout I've ever seen. Very well kept with walking paths. There was also a veteran's memorial area adjacent to the park. What a really cool town! Makes me want to move here (except for the hellish winters :)See more..
We only stayed at campground one night but the lake was large and the sunset was lovely. There is a nice boat ramp and the rv sites are huge!See more..
5.0Spearfish Creek(6 reviews) - Incredible Shaper of Spearfish Canyon Saturday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Bodies of Water
One of the premier sights in the Black Hills is Spearfish Canyon. It is a near vertical heavily wooded canyon created by this creek cutting through the hills. What you have is some of the most amazing scenery in the western US. You have high, near vertical canyon walls, but they are covered with large Ponderosa Pine and Black Hill Spruce with free flowing, cool, sparkling water. Our group had the opportunity to not only see the creek while driving, we also got to experience the creek fly fishing. My friend caught a nice, wild Rainbow Trout while I got to see a Mountain Goat and baby come to the creek for water. It was just incredible to see the water that shapes the canyon and brings life to it.See more..

4.0Iron Creek Lake(5 reviews) - Small but beautiful lake in the Black Hills. Spent More than 3 hours Bodies of Water Iron Creek Lake is a small lake in the northern end of the Black Hills, about 15 miles out of Spearfish. Roads to get there are gravel, typically rough and dusty. The traffic can be surprisingly heavy in the summer months with camper, ATV and car traffic. There are a number of biking, hiking and snowmobile trails in the immediate area. Iron Creek Lake is actually a dam. Nice trail around the lake, a small store with paddle boat rentals in the summer. Camping spots available. It's a very popular place for camping with some permanent residents as well. Fishing and a small beach. It's busy in the summer due to it's proximity to Spearfish. It can be quite crawded. Worth a visit if you are touring the National Forest backroads!See more..
