Beautiful estate with vast gardens to explore! I visited in April having taken the train from Amsterdam for the day as I wanted to explore the gardens and surrounding estate lands for the day. I contacted Baartman Taxis of Hengelo and they provided an affordable pickup/dropoff service from the train station to the Castle and other areas. The gardens were lovely! More greenery than floral, I saw swans, crooked trees, topiaries, and a herd of white deer! A great time to meander and reflect. The gift shop staff were friendly and spoke a bit of English and there was lots of history to discover. See more..

This castle is part of the Fundatie Museum with its main building in Zwolle, the one with the blue sparkly egg on top. Kasteel het Nijenhuis has character, fine art and lots of sculptures in the garden. The Hannema lunch place is great too! See more..

Lovely gardens, smaller than I expected, entire tour took about 1.5 hours. The sand sculptures were thoroughly enjoyable. Not all of the Dutch sayings depicted translate well into English but as I am bilingual that wasn't an issue. See more..

Spent < 1 hour Castles
The area around Dalfsen is great for a bike-tour and when heading for Ommen, you will get past it.. We found out, however, that you cannot visit the castle as a private person is living there. Presently they are overhauling the gardens and working the surrounding forest.. Happy to have seen it.. from the side. See more..
