4.5De Brink(324 reviews) - Lively and cosy Deventer city square Points of Interest & Landmarks
Very pleasant square with a large variety of historic buildings dating from the 1500s to art-nouveau early 20th century. Of course the Waag (weighing house) from 1528 stands out. Unlike Rotterdam or Arnhem the city escaped major destruction during WOII. With a population of just over 100,000 inhabitants, Deventer has kept its laid back Dutch style ambiance and does not feel as 'cosmopolitanized' as the major cities in the west of the Netherlands. Biggest improvement: the square is car free since 1993. So lots of terraces and space except for market days.See more..

4.5Huis Singraven(67 reviews) - Don't miss this in Denekamp Wednesday: 9:00 AM - 8:00 PM Spent 2-3 hours Speciality Museums • Points of Interest & Landmarks
This house and estate should not be forgotten when you are in the Denekamp area. The house only permits guided tours (only limited possibilities) but these are very interesting as the interior is overwhelming with very rare species. The gardens are also very nice. Don't miss this!See more..
Lovely gardens, smaller than I expected, entire tour took about 1.5 hours. The sand sculptures were thoroughly enjoyable. Not all of the Dutch sayings depicted translate well into English but as I am bilingual that wasn't an issue.See more..
4.0Cellebroederspoort(42 reviews) - Gravediggers gate Points of Interest & Landmarks
The original gate dates from 1465. Its location marked the new extended outer ring of the city at the time formed by an earthen wall. The fortification served a clear purpose: to protect the city against conquerors. The architecture was rather military, than esthetic. This changed during the early 1600s when the city walls and gates lost their defensive role. In 1617 the Cellebroedersgate was reconstructed and got its present Renaissance style appearance. Its new destiny had become to serve as (luxurious) residence of the wealthy city elite. Probably the reason why the structure survived and was not demolished. Interesting is that the gate eventually got its final name from a nearby Cellebroeders convent. Perhaps in tribute to the work of the brothers who buried the dead during the Plague that struck the city. Celle from 'Cella' meaning grave.See more..
Probably this one is the most prominent of the three historic gates left in Kampen. Just imagine there once were 20 gates. Anyway, the Broederpoort from 1465 dates from the same period as the Cellebroedersgate a bit further away. Like the Cgate renovated early 17th century to reappear suitable as a residence for wealthy city dignitaries. Apart from the festive towers the middle part looks really fine. As most Renaissance style buildings in the Netherlands it exhales celebration, rather than austerity. The gatebuilding now serves as an exposition room and -appropiately- a wedding location.See more..

4.0molen van Frans(11 reviews) - Great Mill Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks • Monuments & Statues
After the disappointing visit to ‘Molen van Bels’ we walked to the ‘Molen van Frans’, a nice 10 min walk. This mill is operational and it is very interesting to have a look inside the mill. They grind corn, show how to make paper and there is lots to read about the history of this mill. Great place and really worth a visitSee more..
This is a very special mill as it is one of the two windmills in the Netherlands that produce oil, here is the flaxseed oil. We could only enjoy it from outside as it was not open on sundays. The opening time is 10.00 am-04.00 pm on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month. Well, we took some pictures and will be back again next time we visit ZwolleSee more..

4.5Pelmolen(7 reviews) - Sensational windmill Points of Interest & Landmarks
The most beautiful setting. This perfectly restored windmill is well worth seeing. First impressions when entering the mill are reinforced by the wonderful smell of linseed and grain. The stairs between floors are certainly not for anyone with mobility issues, but climbing through the mill is fascinating and you can easily understand how the mill has been built and how it works. A photo display of the restoration work is very interesting. However the whole experience could be richer if there were guidebooks available in other languages. See more..

3.5Gravenallee & Huis Almelo(6 reviews) - Private property surrounded by beautiful park Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Historic Walking Areas • Architectural Buildings
The 17th century manor can only be seen from a distance, as it still is the private residence of the count (van Rechteren Limpurg). The surroundings on a Sunday in November are marvelous, because of the autumn colors and green quiet spaces along the allée. What is left of the estate is a heaven for hikers and cyclists: 16 km of trails and small roads through forest and farmland.See more..

4.0Windkorenmolen "De Konijnenbelt"(4 reviews) - Stop for a Picture Spent < 1 hour Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks • Architectural Buildings
As we came quite late, the windmill was closed. Usually you can visit it when the mill is running. Nowadays the mill is used as an art gallery. There is an exposition 'Kunst onder de Wieken 2019' ( art under the windmill sail) at this moment. It is open on saturday & sunday 02.00pm-05.00pm in June, July and August 2019.See more..
The bench is an excellent place to sit. It is great fun with kids, who can climb it and run around. It is at the same time a very romantic place for couples with an excellent view over an impressive spread of water. The disadvantage is that services are lacking and WiFi is not up-to-par.See more..
3.5Kleinste Huisje Kampen(4 reviews) - Cute little house Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks • Architectural Buildings
Most probably it was a small warehouse, but later started to be used as a dwelling. Hard to imagine that once five people lived in there. After restoration in 1992 a 'museum' with trinkets and knick knacks. Nice to peep into.See more..
4.5Stadsbrug Kampen(3 reviews) - Fantastic bridge with golden wheels Points of Interest & Landmarks
Spanning the IJssel river, this bridge is linking the eastbank and railway station with the historic city center of Kampen since 1999. It is a lift bridge. The whole middle section can be lifted and it is quite a sight to see the gold colored wheels turning.See more..
4.5De Nieuwe Toren(3 reviews) - 17th century Carillon Tower Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks • Architectural Buildings
Over three hundred years old and still called 'Nieuwe Toren' (new tower) because in 1663 it replaced an old chapel. At the time it must have been quite an achievement for a middle-sized city of traders to commit resources to building such a (non-religious) Carillon tower. Perhaps it served to underscore the significance of Kampen in competition with cities like Amsterdam. A competition Kampen eventually lost due to the silting up of its principal waterways. Anyhow, Kampens heydays left us this beautiful tower with music to increase happiness.See more..
This 18th century mill is now owned by the town, and still grinds spelt, wheat, and other flours. It is open for tours on Wednesday afternoon, from 14:00 to 16:00, and Saturday mornings after 10:30. When I visited on a Saturday morning, I met the old miller himself, himself the son of a miller, who personally guided me through the entire structure. There are great views from the upper platform, and you can get close enough to the main gears to touch them. It is a thrill to experience a working mill, so much a part of the history of the NetherlandsSee more..
3.5Gemeente Hardenberg(2 reviews) - The Beehive Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Architectural Buildings • Government Buildings The modern city hall of Hardenberg is a compact circular yellowish building located between the center and the Vechtpark. Ever since 2012, the year of its inception it has caused controversy. In 2015 it got a prize for being the "Ugliest Building in the Netherlands" (sample of 5000 votes from among people working in the construction sector). For me the structure does not look out of place and the form (different surfaces in circular composition) is refreshing after having seen so many boring square office buildings in other Dutch cities. Moreover, architects Branimir Medić en Pero Puljiz paid attention to energy efficiency. This is not the reason why locals often call it "de bijenkorf" (the beehive).See more..
3.5Besthmener Molen(2 reviews) - Impressive mill Spent < 1 hour Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks This mill on an elevation, just 2.5 km south from the center of Ommen dates from 1862 and is still functioning. 5.0Water Tower Of Delden(1 review) - Still functional monument Points of Interest & Landmarks
Built in 1894 with the height of 37 m this water tower was meant to help extinguishing fires around Twickel ( Twickel is a beautiful county estate) and to provide drinking water the inhabitants of Delden. Interesting fact that while drilling for water, the salt was discovered in the water. Thus the salt industry started to develop and this water tower was connected to nearby city - Almelo's water system. Apparently Delden’s water tower is still in use nowadays.See more..
