Beautiful estate with vast gardens to explore! I visited in April having taken the train from Amsterdam for the day as I wanted to explore the gardens and surrounding estate lands for the day. I contacted Baartman Taxis of Hengelo and they provided an affordable pickup/dropoff service from the train station to the Castle and other areas. The gardens were lovely! More greenery than floral, I saw swans, crooked trees, topiaries, and a herd of white deer! A great time to meander and reflect. This lovely little park was just the ticket on a cold Autumn day. The trees were so incredibly beautiful and laid out so lovely it was glorious. It takes very little time to walk around but if you stop and really immerse yourself in the sights, sounds, and smells of the place you can happily give your soul a boost and fill an hour or two. Mien Ruys was famous as a Landscape & Garden Architect. This garden was created in her hometown, Dedemsvaart. It's quite big area with different kind of style and flowers / plants, lots of artwork scattered al over the garden. We saw some special flowers ( at least for us as we've never seen them before). It's recommended visiting this garden if you're in the neighbourhood.See more..

Of cource there is more than enough space for the parents or grandparents to sit down and have a coffee or thee from the Ulebelt. The older children can go to the Waterstam, a more rough nature playing ground. Here the children can release all their energy at the water playing ground with big logs and more cool wooden cabins. Wij logeerden een paar dagen in hotel van der Valk in Hengelo. Van daaruit was het zo'n 8 minuten rijden naar Jan Boomkamp Gardens. Er zijn daar 55 verschillende tuinen te bezichtigen. Wij kwamen in een tijd dat er veel niet meer in bloei stond, maar de tuinen imponeerden tóch! Wij kunnen ons voorstellen dat de tuinen in de bloeiperiode ohhhs en ahhhs oproepen. Het is de moeite waard om er eens heen te gaan.Er is een tuinrestaurant, een klompenmakerij en museum.See more..

Very pleasant to walk around in autumn as the tall trees are loosing their leaves and sunlight reveals the different shades of colors. The fountain adds to the enjoyable atmosphere. Named after P.M. Rogmans, rentmeester (steward) of the estate during the mid 20th century with exception of the war period when he was arrested by the German occupiers.See more..
