    Stedelijk Museum Kampen image
The Stedelijk Museum Kampen is located in the old town hall of Kampen. It has a collection consisting of four main themes: law, religion, water and the House of Orange. A highlight in the museum is the Aldermen's Hall from 1545, where justice was administered until 1795. The Schepenzaal is still in its original state. There are five changing exhibitions every year, including contemporary art. In the Former Synagogue on the IJsselkade, in addition to the changing art exhibitions on the ground floor, there is a permanent memorial exhibition on the Jewish history of Kampen in the gallery of the exhibition space. Went here for a family celebration with people ranging from 14 to nearly 80. High tea was high quality, everything fresh and delicious. Staff were friendly and courteous. There's a small shop on the same level where Bolletje bakery items are sold and a tiny museum up the steps. See more..

  6. 4.5 Museum Bussemakershuis (20 reviews)
    - Explore local history
Thursday: 1:30 PM - 5:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours History Museums
    Museum Bussemakershuis image
At a walkable distance from the train station, this is a piece of both domestic and industrial history from when the textile industry dominated this now quiet town and indeed the area. You can see the looms on the upper floor; the building still has all the signs of being a place of heavy work. And yet there are delightful residential quarters and a garden below, including the not unusual bed in a cupboard. See more..
  7. 3.5 Het Wevershuisje (16 reviews)
    - Small, free

    Het Wevershuisje image
The weaver's house is small. Nevertheless there are quite many items on display in the old house, including two weaving machines. In the neighbouring house there is a 'mooi kamer', a representative room of a century or so ago. They could use a little more exhibition space. Also, the museum is not well indicated on the street signs, but it is next to the nicest looking church. See more..

Museum Ootmarsum, Marius van Dokkum image
I stumbled into this place as I was wandering Ootmarsum, and since have been captured by the work of Marius van Dokkum. The host gave me a personal tour of the gallery and the works on display, it was a pleasure to have the back ground of the artist and the individual paintings explained. A must stop if you are in the town. See more..
  9. 4.0 Stadsmuseum Almelo (15 reviews)
    - …..Barbies in Almelo….
    Thursday: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent < 1 hour History Museums
    Stadsmuseum Almelo image
The Almelo City Museum is housed in two buildings. The actual museum is in a historic building, the Rectorshuis (Headmaster's Home), a former Latin school dating from 1783, now a listed monument. The smaller Heyda building accommodates the office and the museum entrance. Relevant exhibits and stories paint a picture of the history of the former manor of Almelo. There is one room for temporary exhibitions, while the other rooms are used for more or less permanent displays, split up into five major themes. 1. WATER: WHAT IT GAVE AND WHAT IT TOOK, 2. POWER AND PRESTIGE, 3. LIVING OFF THE LAND, 4. INDUSTRY, and 5. NEVER A DULL MOMENT See more..

    Museum Staphorst image
I was in Staphorst last summer ..I recommend visiting the museum in July and August ,on Wednesdays ,when there are open activities in the yard of the old farm .and you can take pictures .Staphorst is a closed protestant village with strict rules ,where 1800 villagers still wear old traditional costumes .On Sunday 2000 villagers go to church ,then you are not allowed to take pictures . The village is a delight ...I liked the farms ,the green doors ,the local folklore ,the local gardens full of flowers .The museum is a picture of an old farm ,like a Dutch painting ...you can visit the village in an hour . 12. 4.0 Ikonenmuseum (11 reviews)
    - A hidden gem, really
    Spent 1-2 hours History Museums
    Ikonenmuseum image
Fascinating and exceptional. The centre displays part of its 3,000 strong top-notch icon collection on a rotating basis, with a few dozen being exhibited at any given time with extremely good explanations. I had seen a number of Russian icons in collections such as those at the Grand Palais or the Louvre, as well as a few orthodox churches, and hadn't been able to grasp the codes of the Russian iconostasis... until now! The explanations were straightforward, rich and extremely interesting. It must be noted that the first floor was entirely translated in English but the ground floor wasn't. This proved no hindrance at all however as Google Translate's live translation feature proved very capable in assisting my understanding. As for the icons themselves, they were truly magnificent. Even simply what is displayed at one time is well beyond anything I had ever seen in its breadth and quality. See more..
  13. 4.0 Vollenhove City Museum (6 reviews)
    - Vollenhove ,an old village ,full of hidden charm
    Spent 1-2 hours History Museums
    Vollenhove City Museum image
Not very far from the crowded Giethoorn ,I discovered another local historic treasure ,Vollenhove village , a real mirror of the battle of the man against the water.I liked the old part of it and the natural surroundings .In 1354 Vollenhove received city rights from the bishop of Utrecht .The fishing port was constructed in 1823,it was restored in 1972 and now it is a marina. Two churches worth visiting ,Saint Nicholas church or Bovenkerk and Maria church from 1434.I was curious to open a gate ,pressing a button ...I discovered a national monument , a manor and behind The Historic Gardens Marxweld ,which have belonged for centuries to a local rich family ,Sloet. The walled gardens are laid out in 4 styles ,Medieval ,Renaissance ,Baroque and Landscape .Entrance is free ,at the end of the garden is located Maria church..I met only 6 tourists in the area .The gardens are in the historic centre ,near the local museum .The ruin and moat of an old castle Toutenburg are to be found in the park.A German knight built the castle at the beginning of the 16 th century. In the village there are historic buildings ,they have got special facades stones that indicate a certain craft .The village is small ,but very interesting ,I received information at the local museum . 14. 4.5 Emaille En Bromfiets Museum (4 reviews)
    - This quirky museum has enamelware in the restaurant and mopeds on the second floor

    Emaille En Bromfiets Museum image
This family-run vacation spot (cabins, pool, restaurant, and more) also has hundreds of enamelware pieces decorating the restaurant, which can be seen for free, and a moped museum which is only open on Thursdays and Saturdays for guided tours (2 euros per person). We arrived on Saturday about 1/2 hour after the tour started, but the owner (and moped collector) Jacob provided a private tour in English for us when he finished the first tour. He is enthusiastic about his varied collection, which spans over half a century, and he gives you a music CD that he made as a parting gift! It's a quirky museum, but we love discovering gems like this when we travel. See more..
  15. 4.5 Historisch Museum Vriezenveen (3 reviews)
    - Heel aardig lokaal historisch museum
Thursday: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM History Museums

See more..
