Great full day out with Florin. From the word go he accommodated our request to be picked up from accommodation and dropped off in time for our flight home. He was very welcoming and answered all our questions in depth. The monasteries are 100% worth going to see. The detail in all the paintings are incredible and as someone who isn't religious I learned a lot about Christian and local history. You also get to see the beautiful Romanian countryside, tradition Romanian wooden houses and we had added stops of black ceramic workshop and the biggest collection of painted eggs in the world. 4.5Humor Monastery(213 reviews) - More compact than other painted monasteries Wednesday: 8:00 AM - 10:00 PM Religious Sites
This monastery is a little more remote than some other monasteries but is only a 4km drive north of Gura Humorului. There is free parking in the square and it is only a short walk from here. The site is more compact than some others and very well tended. Our personal view is that the paintings were not quite as refined as some other monasteries but nevertheless, it is worth visiting and most of the paintings remain in very good condition.See more..
4.5Putna Monastery(131 reviews) - Beautifully preserved landmark of Romanian Christianity Wednesday: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Historic Sites • Architectural Buildings • Religious Sites
Must see for Romanian orthodox pilgrims and for lovers of art & history. The interior of the main church and the architecture are very beautiful. The inside paintings of the church were restored in the 2000s. Free entrance to the church, but no pictures / videos are allowed inside (only outside for a few of 10 RON). Museum available for visit against a fee. A nice shop outside the entrance with souvenirs, religious books and the like, cash only. Fair road to it, but pay attention to the other monastery located only a few km down the road, not to mix the locations by the GPS. Several accommodation and eating places nearby. No street sellers, at least at the moment of our visit (5-6 PM on 01.01).See more..
For those who are Orthodox believers this is one of the holiest of places in Romania. A big cathedral as the center piece - home of the relics of the Saint Parascheva - in Oct every year is a pilgrimage with 10th of thousands of people flocking to this place. The main church is impressive - however in the summer when I was there it was very crowded - so I did not entered ... queuing up in times of Covid for 15-20 min it is not for me. The smaller church - the old St. George church - it is also very interesting but it was closed. Otherwise also the museum in the location could be interesting - but at the end of the day large groups were flocking there ... so I skipped that 1 also. Interesting, impressive to a certain degree , still not the perfect experience.See more..
4.5Dragomirna Monastery(101 reviews) - Monastery and old art museum Religious Sites
The Dragomirna Monastery's history started back in 1602 AD when the small church was built and dedicated to St. Enoch, Elijah and John the Teologue. The monastery built during the first three decades of the 17th century, between 1843 -1846 was a general reconstruction. The total height up to the Cross is 42 m. “It is tall and narrow like a fine casket with holy relics; an architectural jewel with around the ancient woods of Bucovina,” wrote great Romanian historian Nicolae Iorga.See more..

4.5Arbore Monastery(33 reviews) - Do not miss this UNESCO World Heritage Monastery Religious Sites
The painted churches of Bucovina are world-famous. Each one has its charm, but Arbore is special because the XVI Century painter who did the interior of the church had just come back from a trip to Florence. Thus, whereas all seven other Bucovina UNESCO World Heritage churches are painted very much in the Greek-Romanian Orthodox idiom, the paintings in Arbore are strongly influenced by the Florentine Renaissance. The syncretic style is carried with aplomb and mastery, and I feel that it speaks more forcefully to those whose visual education was preponderantly in the Western, rather than Eastern Christian idiom. Arbore monastery is slightly off the beaten track (by the standards of Bucovina), and is quieter than Voronet, for instance. But it's definitely worth the detour.See more..

4.5St. Sabbas the Sanctified(15 reviews) - An amazing piece of Iasi History! Spent < 1 hour Religious Sites
This church is one of the most impressive and oldest churches in Iasi, being representative for the old town center, along with Bărboi Church, Trei Ierarhi Church, Golia Monastery and the Armenian Church. This byzantine church combines Oriental, Gothic, Moldavian and Wallachian architectural elements! She was part of a monastery that does not exist anymore. The church was fully restored in recent years and the church enclosure and garden rearranged. The rehabilitation works carried out recently are quite well done, with few exceptions undetectable!See more..
Visiting this Monastery on the way to Piatra Neamț, we found ourselves at an interesting place. The Monastery grounds are well taken care of. When getting into the church, what mainly surprised me is the natural lighting. the walls are painted with the tradition of the Monasteries in the area, but the natural lighting and the high ceilings cause the ceiling to be covered in dark, giving this place a feel of greatness. Just outside of the Monastery walls, there is also a wooden church that is located in a graveyard, and it very interesting (although it was closed and we couldn't get inside). Overall I'd recommend visiting in late morning / early afternoon so you can enjoy the lighting...See more..

5.0Malinesti Monastery(1 review) - Heaven is a place on Earth! Spent More than 3 hours Religious Sites
You will definitely find a piece of heaven at the Malinesti Monastery situated in beautiful Moldova, in Vaslui County, Garceni village. As soon as you step into the yard of the monastery, you will feel the touch of God surrounding you in every sound of the silence and in every color of the flowers in the beautiful garden of the church. The beautifully painted church, besides being a work of art in itself, it is also the home of a Miracle Maker Icon, of the Virgin Mary. It is said that the icon remained untouched by a devastating fire that burnt the old church down in the 18th century. The church was re-build in 1826, and it is currently a monument pertaining to the Romanian National Heritage. The monks have divine terraces full of geraniums and a masterly kept garden. At the first sight, you will think that there are more monks taking care of the monastery, but there are only 7 of them. Malinesti Monastery the perfect place to sooth your soul and to re-charge your batteries, especially if you have the chance to meet and to talk to Father Filip (the abbot of the monastery) and to Father Daniel. They are the embodiment of wisdom. God bless this beautiful place and all the people taking care of it!See more..
