We accidentally got in the queue of the people waiting to worship in the Monastirea, while we thought we were simply waiting to get inside. This turned out to be a good accident on our part. We ended up in a trail of stations, where the attendees were worshiping in different locations, crossing themselves, going to the floor, kissing icon, writing prayers for the priests to read. Near the Dosoftei house and the Palace of culture in Iasi you shall find this small but very interesting church. Built during the reign of Kind Stephen the Great in the period of 1491-1492 - it was refurbished through the ages - even on the interior the Romanian royal family was added on the walls. Entrance is free of charge - but it is not open around the clock, so try to be there at reasonable hours - after 9:0 a.m. and before 6 p.m. for instance. The frescoes inside are interesting but are covered in a layer of candle smoke - and like in the majority of orthodox churches in Romania there is a dim light so you need to really focus to see the items inside. The church was destroyed during the time Stephen the Great was reigning over. Another church was built over its ruins. Its devastation, occurring in the year 1513, caused its abandoning until the 17th century. It had been restored between 1898 and 1901, and had the honour of being painted by K. Jobst. Between 1990 and 2001 it was restored once again. The archaeological researches developed there revealed the tomb of Evdokia of Kiev, the first wife of Stephen the Great.See more..
This is a beautiful modern building. A real architectural gem & completely different from the other buildings in the area. The interior is light and airy with a beautiful alter and distinctive stations of the cross. I would recommend a visit.See more..

Visiting this Monastery on the way to Piatra Neamț, we found ourselves at an interesting place. The Monastery grounds are well taken care of. When getting into the church, what mainly surprised me is the natural lighting. the walls are painted with the tradition of the Monasteries in the area, but the natural lighting and the high ceilings cause the ceiling to be covered in dark, giving this place a feel of greatness. Just outside of the Monastery walls, there is also a wooden church that is located in a graveyard, and it very interesting (although it was closed and we couldn't get inside). Overall I'd recommend visiting in late morning / early afternoon so you can enjoy the lighting...See more..

If you like history you will enjoy this church that is now one of Romania's protected sites. The small structure with interesting design is appealing but the real prize is inside. The walls are blackened with hundred of years of candle burning. It is just a short walk for the city center and a half a block for the golden arches. We parked by it when going to a great pizza place across the street. So like I usually do I had to go see inside. Glad I did.See more..
I have been here many times; before '89 the church was not so carefully cared, but when i visited the place this summer I saw many good changes : a museum , a nice garden and a very good guide.See more..
