Saint Nicholas Church, Northeast Romania, Romania

4.5 (51 reviews) Spent Ranking #12 in Iasi County Architectural Buildings • Churches & Cathedrals

From the heritage of king Stephen the Great.

Near the Dosoftei house and the Palace of culture in Iasi you shall find this small but very interesting church. Built during the reign of Kind Stephen the Great in the period of 1491-1492 - it was refurbished through the ages - even on the interior the Romanian royal family was added on the walls. Entrance is free of charge - but it is not open around the clock, so try to be there at reasonable hours - after 9:0 a.m. and before 6 p.m. for instance. The frescoes inside are interesting but are covered in a layer of candle smoke - and like in the majority of orthodox churches in Romania there is a dim light so you need to really focus to see the items inside. Overall very interesting - if you are in the area definitely worth taking a look.

    Beautiful church, fantastic choir
The church is very beautiful both inside and outside, with a nice architecture. I recommend to go to the mass on Sunday morning, the choir is absolutely fantastic. Very inspiring.

The oldest church in Iasi, built in 15th century
It's worth visiting the oldest church in Iasi, built in the 15th century by the time Stephen the Great was the Moldavian region's ruler. It's a real historical monument, with a particular inside and outside design and architecture, reminding of the times when Iasi was first time mentioned as a city in old documents. It's easy to get there and visit it as it is situated near the main Iasi attraction, like the Palace of Culture and Palas Mall.
