    Palatul Culturii image
A building built in the early 1900's today home to several museums - pity like every museum its closed on Monday's ... so I couldn't visit the museums, maybe next time when I'm in Iasi. The building is majestic - form the outside you can see a lot architectural features, statues, decorations on the façade. When you are in Iasi , a definite must see, even if only from the outside but it is worth it. See more..

    Putna Monastery image
Must see for Romanian orthodox pilgrims and for lovers of art & history. The interior of the main church and the architecture are very beautiful. The inside paintings of the church were restored in the 2000s. Free entrance to the church, but no pictures / videos are allowed inside (only outside for a few of 10 RON). Museum available for visit against a fee. A nice shop outside the entrance with souvenirs, religious books and the like, cash only. Fair road to it, but pay attention to the other monastery located only a few km down the road, not to mix the locations by the GPS. Several accommodation and eating places nearby. No street sellers, at least at the moment of our visit (5-6 PM on 01.01). See more..
  6. 4.5 Catedrala Mitropolitană „Sfânta Cuvioasă Parascheva” (118 reviews)
    - Interesting but very crowded

Catedrala Mitropolitană „Sfânta Cuvioasă Parascheva” image
For those who are Orthodox believers this is one of the holiest of places in Romania. A big cathedral as the center piece - home of the relics of the Saint Parascheva - in Oct every year is a pilgrimage with 10th of thousands of people flocking to this place. The main church is impressive - however in the summer when I was there it was very crowded - so I did not entered ... queuing up in times of Covid for 15-20 min it is not for me. The smaller church - the old St. George church - it is also very interesting but it was closed. Otherwise also the museum in the location could be interesting - but at the end of the day large groups were flocking there ... so I skipped that 1 also. Interesting, impressive to a certain degree , still not the perfect experience. See more..

  10. 4.5 Saint Nicholas Church (51 reviews)
    - From the heritage of king Stephen the Great.
Architectural Buildings • Churches & Cathedrals
    Saint Nicholas Church image
Near the Dosoftei house and the Palace of culture in Iasi you shall find this small but very interesting church. Built during the reign of Kind Stephen the Great in the period of 1491-1492 - it was refurbished through the ages - even on the interior the Romanian royal family was added on the walls. Entrance is free of charge - but it is not open around the clock, so try to be there at reasonable hours - after 9:0 a.m. and before 6 p.m. for instance. The frescoes inside are interesting but are covered in a layer of candle smoke - and like in the majority of orthodox churches in Romania there is a dim light so you need to really focus to see the items inside. Overall very interesting - if you are in the area definitely worth taking a look. See more..
  11. 4.5 Casa Dosoftei (33 reviews)
    - Gorgeous little house
    Architectural Buildings • History Museums
    Casa Dosoftei image
This place is located in front of the Palace and Mall, plus St Nicholas church near it. I guess due to the traffic nearby, the house is now suffering (as being several hundreds of years old) thus being under renovation at this moment in time. However you can still admire the outside structure and pictures depicting the house some 100 years ago. Well maintained area with wide roads and lots of traffic though. See more..

Palatul Memorial Alexandru Ioan Cuza image
Cuza palace, in Ruginoasa, is relatively close to Iasi city and can make a good one-day trip. It has a small park around it. There is also an interesting church and the place where Al. I. Cuza was initially buried (now he rests in the Three Holy Hierarchs church of Iasi). The exterior of the building is quite nice. The interiors are well restored, full of beautiful objects and interesting artefacts related to Cuza, one of the most important figures of Romanian history. In the rooms there are displayed information in both Romanian and English. Unfortunately, taking pictures inside is forbidden. See more..

    Ghika Palace image
The castle is very beautiful, I would say it is a hidden gem. A lot of people don't know about him. Unfortunately, it is not in the best shape, it would require extensive renovation works, especially at the inside part. The park surrounding the castle is also very beautiful, with secular trees and a small lake (clogged, unfortunately). On the estate there is a beautiful guesthouse, in a separate building, near the castle. See more..

    City Hall Botosani image
The edifice we see today was built at the end of the eighteenth century in an eclectic style of German influence. In the middle of the 19th century, the building housed the Court's seat. Mihai Eminescu himself worked here for a short period as an employee of the Tribunal as a copist, between October 1864 and March 1865. The monument of secular architecture, built by Enache Codrescu around 1800 in the Neoclassical style of the Sharps. The house is bought on 5 December 1842 by the hatman Anastasie Başotă for the sum of 40,000 lei. In 1850, the prince Grigore Ghica, visiting the Botosani, and seeing that there is a lack of a house for the administrative institutions and other authorities in this town, buys the house with the sum of 2,000 yellow and gives it to Botosani. In October 1864, when Mihai Eminescu became a copist in court, several buildings of the city of Botosani were located in this building: the Prefecture, the County Court, the Municipality, the Police and the Fire Brigade. The building was restored for the first time between 1900-1914. The refurbished architecture still preserves the kind of boyish house attached to the ancient mansions of the 19th century. XVII-XVIII with a high and portico floor with arcades in front of the main entrance, designed to pass the carriages. In 2008, extensive renovation works were launched with the reconstruction of the building's resistance structure recognized as a true symbol of Botoşani municipality. See more..

Văsescu House is one of the most beautiful Boeotian houses in Botosani and belonged to Alexandru Văsescu, an important politician of the 19th century. The year of construction is not well known, but some sources mention 1880, 1890 or 1891. Architectural style is an eclectic one with elements of different architectural styles, especially neoclassical. Casa Memorială "Nicolae Iorga"/ "Nicolae Iorga" Memorial House image
When in Botosani - for me - one of the most important landmarks/points of interest was the memorial house of Nicolae Iorga. Nicola Iorga was a politician who for a short period of time was the prime minister of Romania , he was a historian and a philosopher and a teacher at the university of Bucharest and at the university of Paris. He truly made his mark on Romanian history. He had a violent demise in 1940 - he was killed by the members of the "Iron Guard". The memorial house is situated on a small street in Botosani - no parking on the premises , you need to park your car on the side of the road. And also the other surprise - it was not open - there was an unreadable piece of paper in one of the windows of the house - could be a phone number to call the custodian, but since it was so "yellowed" by the sun I simply don't know. Honestly I was looking forward to this visit but in the end it was a sort of disappointment since I could only see the house from the street ... maybe next time. See more..
