St. Sabbas the Sanctified, Northeast Romania, Romania

4.5 (15 reviews) Spent < 1 hour Ranking #25 in Iasi County Religious Sites

An amazing piece of Iasi History!

This church is one of the most impressive and oldest churches in Iasi, being representative for the old town center, along with Bărboi Church, Trei Ierarhi Church, Golia Monastery and the Armenian Church. This byzantine church combines Oriental, Gothic, Moldavian and Wallachian architectural elements! She was part of a monastery that does not exist anymore. The church was fully restored in recent years and the church enclosure and garden rearranged. The rehabilitation works carried out recently are quite well done, with few exceptions undetectable!

    A splendid church
Built in the current form in the 16th century, its particular form, nothing like the other Romanian churches, is due to the influences from Athos, the holy mountain in the Orthodox world. The church has undergone through a vas program of rehabilitation, both on the outside and in the interior, and houses in the tower a small museum.
