  1. 5.0 Catarata de Gocta (530 reviews)

    Catarata de Gocta image
It was a wonderful experience, the waterfall was amazing and beautiful. Friendly people and delicious food. I encourage you to ask for a horse instead of walk ( almost 3hours) , there are a lot of people renting horses close the bus station. See more..

These guys are awesome! Very patient and always looking out for the safety and wellbeing of their travelers. They made the experience we had at Kuelap, the cavern and the sarcophagi all the more memorable. Not to mention that the meals that were included were delicious. Muchisimas gracias y nos veremos pronto! See more..
  3. 5.0 Yumbilla Falls (57 reviews)
    - Yumbilla Falls, Peru - Worth the Hike!
    Waterfalls
    Yumbilla Falls image
It takes some work to get there, but well worth it, in my opinion. It's located further north that Gocta Waterfall, but you get 3 waterfalls in your hike! You have to take a taxi to a place to register - a small village. Then have thetas driver take you to the entrance - about 3 KM from where you register. I'm 66 and did the hike by myself - and I smoke! LOL Worth the hike first two waterfalls are pretty, and the main waterfall comes off the mountains. A pretty majestic site! I've read where it's about a 3 mile hike there, so 6 miles total. Not much wildlife in the area, and the trees block most of the views to the valley as your hiking. But, there are two lookout points that give you a good view of the valley below. Rapelling is popular at the falls - but, I think you need a guide to do that, unless you have your own equipment and are the real adventurous type! See more..
  4. 5.0 Via Kuelap (46 reviews)
    - Go to Chachapoyas and Book with Via Kuelap
Friday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Cultural Tours • Historical & Heritage Tours • Eco Tours • Nature & Wildlife Tours
    Via Kuelap image
We booked all of our recent Chachapoyas trip with Via Kuelap and it was perfect! All we did was book our flight in and out of Jaen airport. They arranged transfer to and from the airport, our hotel, and all of our tours. Alan and Arnold took care of everything for us! We speak English and limited Spanish. Not a lot of people in Chachapoyas speak fluent English, so we communicated with Via Kuelap mostly through text and email with translate and they found us the only English speaking tour guide (Otoniel) for most of our tours. It was wonderful to immerse ourselves in this part of Peru! We highly recommend spending at least four days in Chacapoyas and letting Via Kuelap take care of all of it for you. See more..
  5. 5.0 Yumbilla Waterfall (30 reviews)
    - This place is amazing…
    Waterfalls
    Yumbilla Waterfall image
Peru is the 4th country in South America I had visit in a 5 months journey I did. In the trekking through the jungle of Cuispes I visited some giants and wonderful waterfalls. The highest and unknown waterfall was Yumbilla with 900 high meters. There were no tourists everywhere and it is so easy to get there. From Chachapoyas a "comvi" can take you to Pedro Ruiz to 5 soles. There, in a "moto taxi" you can get to Cuispes for 10 soles. You can contact a local family there, the Galoc´s. They managed a beautiful and peaceful place "La posada de cuispes" A visit to the virgin jungle I´ll never forget, my best experience in the nature ever!!!! See more..

    - An authentic experience in the cloud forests of Amazonas

    Bosque Berlín image
We learned how to cook what we harvested, milk the cows, explored caves and creeks, watched cock of the rocks, yellow-tailed woolly monkeys and night monkeys. It was an incredible experience to connect with nature and with an inspiring family dedicated to an amazing grassroots conservation initiative. Leyda, don Ricardo and doña Carmela have already become part of our family and they receive each person with their warm hearts and wide open smiles. See more..
  8. 5.0 Laguna de los Condores (4 reviews)
    - Amazing experience
Spent More than 3 hours Bodies of Water
    Laguna de los Condores image
This Hike is just a surreal wonderful experience. Make sure you visit the museum in Leymebamba the day before you go on this hike. The mummies are so special! The hike is pretty tough, but Lenis the guide takes horses and then you can rest on a horse when you get tired. The hike and the lake are already incredibly beautiful, but then the experience to visit the site where 200 mummies where found just 20 years ago is indescribable. An experience I can recommend to all people who love the outdoors and have a bit of stamina. Contact Lenis by phone +51 941 850 673 He is a good guide and a nice person to be around. See more..
  9. 5.0 Buena Salud (3 reviews)
    - Best massage we had in Peru
    Friday: 11:00 AM - 8:00 PM Spas
    Buena Salud image
We were exhausted after travelling over the country and getting a massage here was the best decision we could make. We repeated. Gladis knows what she does, she actually did more a terapeutic massage to recover my back and legs than a relaxing massage as I explained that I was tired and had a contracture in my back. She is a short walk away from Plaza de armas, further than other places, but really worth it and at a very reasonable price. See more..

  11. 5.0 Pueblo de Los Muertos Tingorbamba (1 review)
    - Dispuesto a caminar y asumir riesgos
Spent 2-3 hours Ancient Ruins • Points of Interest & Landmarks
See more..
  12. 5.0 Yalape (1 review)
    - Komplett unbekannt, aber total spektakulär
Friday: 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM Ancient Ruins
    Yalape image
See more..

    - Beautiful scenery and interesting ruins
Friday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Historic Sites • Ancient Ruins
    Kuelap Fortress image
Well, I have to say that I took a flight to Jaen, this place has an airport that permits you reduce the number of hours to a very special jungle place. After that I took a taxi that goes to Chachapoyas in 5 hours approximately. Then I went to the hotel I reserved, via web, I have to say that there are good travel agencies in the main square of chachapoyas, you can try prices, but for me both tours, with lunch, transportation, tickets and tour guide included - cost 50 american dollars. Kuelap includes a modern cable car service, and in the second tour, Gocta Falls, you can hire horses that reduce the climbing journey to 50%. (only if you want, I did it because I am a senior) I loved both trips, made nice friends, Oh, yes, the price might be higher, because my tour was in spanish. there are bilingual tours, but I don´t know the cost, but it has been one of my strongest and most incredible experiences, being Kuelap FANTASTIC! Especially if you like mountain climbing, hot real wild, tropical places and rainy weather. See more..
  15. 4.5 Sarcofagos de Karajia (383 reviews)
    - Great outdoor adventure
    Ancient Ruins
    Sarcofagos de Karajia image
We booked what turned out to be a 12 hour tour. We left chachapoyas at 8am for an hour drive to the caves for a 45 minute walk into the dark cave. We were provided lights and boots. The cave is peaceful and awe inspiring. We then went to a good lunch. The drive from lunch was an hour up and around a beautiful mountain side. Peru is amazing! The hike to the sarcophagus was about a half an hour down hill. The site is awesome and beautiful. It was $25 a person for lunch and a ride to both spots. Our tour kind was kind and spoke Spanish and enough English to work with. My favorite trip in Peru so far. See more..
  16. 4.5 Revash Mausoleo de los Chachapoyas (150 reviews)
    - Do it yourself !
    Ancient Ruins
Revash Mausoleo de los Chachapoyas image
A friend and I went to Revash alone. Got a 10 am bus to Santo Thomas but asked to go down at Revash. The path was well indicated. Count an hour and a half to two hours up, 40 minutes down and then a 6 km (downhill) walk to Yerbabuena where we caught the combi to Leymebamba. We stayed there and did the museum the next morning before returning. Totally worth it ! See more..

    - Fantastic little museum
Friday: 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Speciality Museums • History Museums
    Museo de Leimebamba image
Loved it, the museum has in-depth details about the Chachapoyas culture and very well presented. Made me wanna explore the area more. All information is in Spanish though. Officially the museum opens at 10.30am but you can show up earlier, I arrived at 9:30am, rang the door and was let in. It is an easy 45 min walk from Leymebamba direction Cajamarca, take the steps that you see when you come to a soccer field (2 sets of steps), afterwards on the main road turn left and continue for 15 min. 19. 4.5 Canon del Sonche (111 reviews)
    - Spectacular view over Sonche Cañon
    Mountains • Canyons
    Canon del Sonche image
The river Sonche runs east to west near the village of Huancas. The slopes on both sides of the river are rocky and steep (unusable for agriculture). Several creeks feed the Sonche and at some points form waterfalls. There is no road at the bottom of the canyon. For all these reasons the view over the canyon is spectacular. Huancas is 8 km (5 miles) from Plaza de Armas in Chachapoyas. The main viewpoint called Mirador del Cañon de Huancas Sonche is 1 km (0.6 mile) from the center of Huancas. Entrance fee 3 Soles. There is a regular (mini)bus service from Chachapoyas (two blocks north from Plaza de Armas) to Huancas. Price 3 Soles one way. I took me 1 hour and 45 minutes to walk from Chachapoyas to Huancas along the dirt road (up 280m), a bit less on the way down. See more..

    - Kuelap, hidden fortress.
    Sightseeing Tours
    Turismo Explorer image
Hello everyone. Go see Kuelap as soon as possible. In October of 2009 my wife and I hooked up with Turismo Explorer, a tour agency out of Chachapoyas, and purchased a private tour with two other travelers that we had met the day before. It cost us 75 soles each plus a modest entry fee. Jose, our guide, was great. He was knowledgeable about the archeology, culture, history and plant life. The money was well worth it. We walked away stunned. Check out our blog for photos and more info on Kuelap, www.knkexplore.wordpress.com. See more..

My boyfriend and I recently visited Kuélap with Chachapoyas Trip Adventures. Everything was well organised and we were looked after very well. We had specially requested an English speaking guide before our visit (make sure you do this if you need one) and Augusto was great. We never felt like we were an inconvenience even though we were the only two English speakers in the group. The lunch provided was delicious and everything ran on schedule. Thank you Chachapoyas Trip Adventures!! :) See more..

  27. 4.0 Cavernas de Quiocta (276 reviews)
    - Not the most amazing cavern in the world, but if you like mud, this is your place
    Caverns & Caves
    Cavernas de Quiocta image
There are many much more spectacular caverns around the world, but I've never given up a chance to bumble around in the dark, so off to Quiocta we went! The process was weird; we stopped in the nearest town to buy tickets and rent mud boots (I think 7 soles total?) and then drive to the actual cavern in the middle of nowhere, that was totally on the honor system - we just walked right in. It is not set up with lights inside; our guide had some lamps with him, but there weren't enough for everyone in the group, I would highly suggest bringing a flashlight or headlight of your own with you. the cavern is MUDDY. Sometimes up to 20cm of mud. I am proud to say I probably got more mud on my pants than anyone else, even with the mud boots! We saw some fun stalactites and stalagmites, but honestly this location is more about the fun of trying to fall down in a dark and muddy enclosure. See more..
  28. 4.0 Centro Historico (201 reviews)
    - The best place to find your souveniers!
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Centro Historico image
The historical center was well-preserved, quiet, and charming. Houses are painted in white, and this colour highlighted during the sunset. I really enjoy my visit to the museum, the variety of restaurants, and the stores. It is a must to buy your souveniers there! They will be half of the regular price. You can find them in the Market Matiaza Rimachi. These souveniers are made by the inmates, and that is the reason they are so cheap. So, you can help them and buy a gift for your relatives. All the best in your trip! See more..

  30. 4.0 Laguna de Pomacochas (15 reviews)
    - Great location for an easy day out
Spent < 1 hour Bodies of Water
    Laguna de Pomacochas image
We went to visit Laguna Pomacochas with our young son. The weather was so-so but we still enjoyed the visit to this lake. The view is great and the trip in the boat was fun (although not especially espectacular). The lakeside tourist center has gardens, a playground and several restaurants. It's a good place to spend a relaxing day. See more..
