  1. 5.0 Royal Tombs of Sipan Museum (696 reviews)
    - Rivals King Tut

Royal Tombs of Sipan Museum image
This was one of the best archeology museums I’ve been to. We took a guided tour which enhanced the experience. The amount of gold recovered was incredible! Beautiful intricate craftsmanship that I had never seen anywhere before. Truely a world class archeological discovery. The town of Lambayeque is off the beaten path and does not have the best roads. Photos of any kind are strictly controlled. You can’t enter the museum with cameras or cell phones (and they do search you!) I was disappointed that you couldn’t even buy pictures. However, what you see inside is definitely worth the effort and an experience you won’t forget! See more..

Our time in Chiclayo with Runa Turismo was outstanding! Julio, our tour guide, was extremely knowledgable and captivating. We enjoyed the tour so much that none of the tour guides in Cusco/Macchu Picchu compared to the level of storytelling and detail provided by Runa. Highly recommend having a tour with them if you're ever in Chiclayo, Lambayeque. So much rich culture, archeological history and bird watching to experience! See more..

See more..

Museo de sitio Huaca Rajada - Sipan image
We debated visiting the Sipan tombs excavation site and are very glad we did. The museum provides an excellent, informative overview of the culture and the archaeological effort to unearth the tombs. It's fascinating. In our opinion this site is more interesting than the 'Real Tombs of Sipan' museum in Lambayeque. Hire a taxi and make the trip! See more..

  12. 4.5 Complejo Arqueologico Ventarron (46 reviews)
    - Should be promoted more!
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Complejo Arqueologico Ventarron image
This archelogical site is off the beaten path but if you go to Huaca Rajada, it is on the way and should be included. It is small and still being excavated but with very little government support. The entry fee is very modest, guide included at no charge, and even though contributions are not solicited it helps to support the on-going work if you do make one. This civilization (can´t be called a culture) dates back to 2000 years b.c. There are still visible etchings on some walls that give clues as to the habits of this civilization which preceeds Moche, etc. If you have the time, include this! It should be included on all archelogical tours. See more..
  13. 4.5 Huaca Rajada (38 reviews)
    - Amazing Tomb of the Lord of Sipan

    Huaca Rajada image
This is an amazing place, most of the people think the Ina empire is the unique important culture in Peru, but you can find more than that, this Pre-Inca people were so amazing in what their way to live, their organization, their ceramics, there's so many things to see and know. You'll not regret to come and discover how great they were. Don't miss it. See more..
  14. 4.5 Batan Grande (34 reviews)
    - Batan Grande, Pomac Forest on horseback with Rancho Santana
    National Parks
    Batan Grande image
Since I am travelling in Peru it has been the greatest adventure! On super comfortable peruvian Paso Horses did ride through the Pomac Forest (Natural reserv) where there is lots of birdlife. We climbed up to the different ruins of Lambayeque Culture which are inside that beautiful forest. From up there it is a spectacular view over the forest and the mountains. At the last ruin Huaca las ventanas, I have been able to see the tomb with over 60 bodies The tour costs 45 Soles per person, it is good value! The riding started from Rancho Santana, phone 97 971 21 45, www.cabalgatasperu.com. Have to get a small bus from Chiclayo to the village of Pacora (1 hour), from there it is only a 5 minutes walk to the Rancho. On their web is a good explication how to get there. Stefan See more..
  15. 4.5 Santuario Histórico Bosque de Pómac (32 reviews)
    - Birdlife, big trees, and ruins near Ferrenafe
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
Santuario Histórico Bosque de Pómac image
Kind of a hot dry place to visit during the dry season, but still lots of bird life, the arbor milenario, huaca El Oro. The Bosque de Pomac is unique in showing what the coastal plain looked like. The 6000 hectare forest is split by the rio de leche, as Pizarro called it. The tip about bringing binocs is a great one, I saw at least a dozen new bird species and several more I had only seen once or twice. See more..
  16. 4.5 Chaparri Reserve (31 reviews)
    - Hidden Gem
    Nature & Wildlife Areas
    Chaparri Reserve image
This place is awesome and well worth the visit if you find yourself in Northern Peru and enjoy seeing wildlife at all. The reserve is set up in collaboration with the local towns so you need to enter with a local guide. This only adds to the experience. Our guide was excellent - knew the area very well and, at least to me, seem to really care about the conservation of the area. The reserve itself is situated around a large mountain and is composed mainly of scrub forest. The scenery itself is not necessarily as beautiful as some of the other reserves in Peru, but the sparseness of the vegetation makes it much easier to see animals. We did a leisurely 2 hour hike in the middle of the day and saw 25-30 species of mammals, birds and reptiles. They even have an enclosure where they are rehabilitating spectacled bears. Overall a great experience, highly recommended! See more..

  20. 4.5 Reserva de Chaparri (13 reviews)
    - Great for nature and wildlife lovers
Spent More than 3 hours National Parks • Nature & Wildlife Areas
    Reserva de Chaparri image
We came on a day trip from Chiclayo ( booked a tour with Moche tours including transportation, English speaking guide, local community guide and entrance fees) and we had a wonderful time. Our community guide Juan was very professional and gave us fascinating explanations on the reserve and the wildlife. He discusses the rehabilitation efforts in depth and also explained a lot about the use of some of the plants from the reserve in traditional medicine. We were really thrilled to see the bears, the pig and the snakes which are currently on their rehabilitation process. Together which a vast verity of birds and even one fox who ran by us. If you like wildlife and wilderness you will enjoy! See more..
  21. 4.5 Concurso Nacional de Marinera FAP 2013 (9 reviews)
    - Check ahead for dates
Spent More than 3 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks
Chiclayo, specifically the small town of Monsefu, is the self-styled marinera capital of Perú. The marinera is a Peruvian dance, perhaps the national dance that everyone learns as a child. We were able to see practice sessions See more..
  22. 4.5 Vital Spa (8 reviews)
    - Great value massage.
    Spas
If you have a day to kill in Chiclayo like I did this place is probably your best bet as all the other offerings are a bit dire. Go for the $12 1 hour massage (40 soles), you won´t regret it. On top of that, you get to shower (towel, shampoo, soap, sandals included). I would have paid just for a shower after these difficult long Peruvian buses... to get a good massage on top of it? Amazing. The only thing I can recommend to do in Chiclayo! (Sorry, the archeology just looks boring and the city bleh). See more..
  23. 4.5 Casa Museo José Abelardo Quiñones Gonzales (3 reviews)
    - Peru's Aviation Hero
Friday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent < 1 hour Military Museums • History Museums
Casa Museo José Abelardo Quiñones Gonzales image
Have you ever wondered whose face is on the very worn 10 Soles note that you have in your wallet? If so, then you have to visit the Casa Museo Jose Abelardo Quinones Gonzales if you are near Pimentel in Lambayeque. The museum is not advertised much, and not easy to find, but very interesting when you do. José Abelardo Quiñones Gonzáles was only 27 when he died in 1941 during the war with Ecuador. During an attack on an Ecuadorian position, Quiñones' aircraft was hit by ground fire and severely damaged. According to reports, Quiñones crashed his damaged plane onto the Ecuadorian gun position, putting it out of action. After his death, Quiñones was promoted to the rank of Air Force Captain. He was declared a national hero by law on May 10, 1966. The museum is the house in which he grew up, in a middle class family. It is a small homage but worth visiting for the very warm welcome and bit of more modern day history See more..
  24. 4.0 Playa Pimentel (651 reviews)
    - Very popular in summer
    Beaches

I read some negative reviews of this beach. The Sunday afternoon that I visited it in January, it was packed with families and swimmers, and a few surfers. I think the beach might give a bad impression in winter (July - August). See more..
  25. 4.0 Iglesia Santa Maria - Catedral de Chiclayo (148 reviews)
    - Beautiful airy Cathedral
    Spent < 1 hour Churches & Cathedrals
Iglesia Santa Maria - Catedral de Chiclayo image
One of the least ostentatious churches we've seen in Peru. The Virgin Mary is everything in this Cathedral. The huge piece on the left nave was brought from Spain 500 years ago, still beautifully ornate and attractive. The altar is simple and inspiring. The glass windows all entail part of the Mary story. - Brilliant museum and beautiful, peaceful site

Museo de Sitio de Tucume image
Túcume is my personal favorite site because it's so peaceful and the only noise is the sound of all the birds who are thriving here. The museum is beautiful (completed in 2014) and the signage is excellent in both English and Spanish. See more..
  28. 4.0 Palacio Municipal de Chiclayo (91 reviews)
    - Awesome building, museum inside

    Palacio Municipal de Chiclayo image
We were allowed entry by a man standing at the gate when we were looking through at the horseman statue in the courtyard. I'm not sure what opening times and days are, it was Saturday. The statue is a man on a horse. In the rooms surrounding on the bottom floor there are historical pictures and items regarding the early days of the city. Weaving, instruments, etc. See more..
  29. 4.0 Sican Museum (74 reviews)
