- 5.0 Totora Surf School (87 reviews)
-THE beachside Hostel in Huanchaco
Friday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Adrenaline & Extreme Tours • Surfing & Windsurfing
I spent a great few days at Totora Surf School and Hostel. The friendly owners Laura and Diego provided and made sure I had everything I needed, from the moment of arriving up until leaving, the communication was fantastic. The room itself and other facilities were well maintained, the terrace at the top brings stunning views that had me returning every night, as well as the added bonus of the kitchen if you'd prefer to cook your meals on occasion. Would 100% recommend the surf class if itinerary allows, Diego and Rhodri were able to offer great instruction at a relaxed pace with Laura delivering some high quality photos of the lesson. In terms of value for money all round, I couldn't recommend Totora enough. Thanks again all!! See more..
- 5.0 Muchik Surf School (38 reviews)
-Passion and centuries of surf culture
Friday: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM Surfing & Windsurfing
Peru is well known for having world class surfers and waves, and as you can expect, they also have world class shapers, that I consider artists. My fiancee and I travelled around Peru to buy a surfboard. We went from Lima to Mancora and visited almost every shop. We came to Muchik looking for a board, and we got a complete lecture on all the surfboard variables: shape, flat, tails, noses, rocket, rails, wings, epoxys, poly, 3d printers, handmade, carving, and performance. Ultimately, we went to the water to check surfing skills and find the proper board to develop style and skills. In summary, Muchik is not only about surfing or selling surfboards, it is about centuries of passion and surf culture that developed in one of the most abundant waters of the world. Maybe you don't find them in the shop, but be patient. It's worth waiting for the perfect wave.Thank you Omar See more..

- 5.0 Eco Surf Station - Surf & Sustainability (17 reviews)
-Amazing people doing amazing work
Surfing & Windsurfing • Gear Rentals • Day Trips
I lived in Huanchaco for just over a month last year and I am SO grateful that I stumbled upon EcoSurf! Roxy and Mateo are super friendly, caring and knowledgeable. Their boards and wetsuits are all REALLY well taken care of and I wouldn’t trust anybody other than Mateo to take me out in those waves. I know he’s got my safety as his priority every time we go out. But most importantly, these guys not only take care of their boards and the people that come in to surf them, they take care of their community. They’ve got a surf program setup for the kids in town, they give them access to boards and suits, lessons, and a sense of responsibility with the beach clean ups they organize. I felt like going here wasn’t just good for me and my progression, I felt like I was doing good for something way bigger than myself. Couldn’t be more grateful for this place! You guys ROCK! We did two family tours with TRW SURFBOARDS, one to the lady of Cao and the other one to Huaca del sol . We were a group of six, visiting from Ireland and were recommended to the by our hotel. Their can was super comfortable, very affordable prices, their guide very nice and chatty and the music was good too!. They were very accommodating and when we suggested much after the tours , they didn't hesitate to bring us to a nice place to eat. They also do surf tours to CHICAMA and other parts of the north coast of Peru. Will travel with them again when visiting. Thanks Angelo for a great tour!. See more..

- 4.5 Chan Chan (1.525 reviews)
-Wonderful Pre-historic site

This archaeological zone, an excellent example of pre-Colombian America, once served as the capital of the Chimu Kingdom, which reached the height of its power in the 15th century before falling under the Incas. See more..

-La Huaca de la Luna and Chan Chan with Trujillo del Peru
Historic Sites
We took a private tour of La Huaca de la Luna, the city of Trujillo, Chan Chan and Huanchaco with "Trujillo del Peru" during our visit to Trujillo in March 2014. Ever - our guide was extremely knowledgeable and the company is very well organized. Ever was able to cover the history of the Incas and the pre Incan civilizations and show us how the excavations at La Luna and Chan Chan are exposing evidence of this history. Trujillo de Peru also produce a very interesting booklet covering this history which they provide to people on their toors. Highly recommended. See more..

- 4.5 Complejo Arqueologico El Brujo - Museo Cao (857 reviews)
-Este sitio es increíble. Se puede aprender mucho acerca de las pinturas, religión y costumbres del pueblo Moche.
Friday: 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours History Museums
This is an amazing and peaceful site where you can learn about the paintings and the religion and customs of the Moche people. The site itself is fascinating and there are information boards that explain everything. The museum with the preserved body of the Lady of Cao is also absolutely outstanding and unmissable. The pottery and golden artefacts in the museum are incredible. One problem associated with going with a guide could be if he or she rushes you through the museum which is worth spending a long time in. See more..
- 4.5 Museo Huacas de Moche (370 reviews)

The Moche Route follows the most important cultures that settled in Northern Peru between the years 100 and 900 A.D. Important archaeological finds, such as the discovery of the lavish tomb of the Lord of Sipan, the Lady of Cao mummy and the mural paintings in the El Brujo Archaeological Complex, display the splendour of one of the most creative and successful cultures of the pre-Hispanic world. - 4.5 Museo Jardín de los Sentidos (27 reviews)
-A beautiful spot near the Huacas
Friday: 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Gardens
I visited here in August during Winter in South America. While many plants were not in bloom at this time of year, there was enough diversity of foliage to make it interesting. We were guided by Raul, the owner, who told us of the garden's history and showed us how the garden was designed to heighten all the senses, smell, sight and sound. We also learned how the garden was laid out according to ancient Moche tradition as it was developed on Moche lands near the Temples of the Sun and Moon. So when you go visit the Temples, spend some time at the Jardin de los sentidos, a nice cool break from the heat and dust of the temples. See more..

- 4.5 Playa Malabrigo (19 reviews)
-Not what I had expected
Beaches
This was an interesting trip for sure. The area is quite arid and desert-like with a wind that almost never stops. Almost everything is under construction and most roads are simply dirt. If you're exchanging US dollars at the bank, be sure there are NO tears. They prefer new-looking, intact bills only. They will not exchange bills that have rips at the bank. The locals are incredibly friendly and really make you feel at home and comfortable. They welcomed me as if I wasn't a stranger from another country and it was a great feeling. See more..
- 4.5 Parroquia Senor de Huaman (19 reviews)

- 4.5 Puemape (18 reviews)
-Puemape La Huaca
Spent More than 3 hours Beaches
-STUNNING must see
Spent < 1 hour Religious Sites • Churches & Cathedrals
I have to confess, I know the Temple President- he's my uncle. So I got the platinum tour. And this place is absolutely gorgeous. A true oasis spiritually and architecturally. The grounds are immaculate, and the interior of the temple is beautiful. Even the attached hospedaje is second-to-none. Well constructed with the latest amenities except for TVs. You don't come here to watch cable or Netflix. And very secured. Located in a gated community with 24 hour-a-day guards you'll feel right at home. For members of the church going on temple tours, this temple is the MOST beautiful I've seen in Latin America. We would come back just to see it again. See more..
- 4.5 Iglesia de San Francisco (11 reviews)
-Impressive belltower
Friday: 6:30 AM - 8:30 AM, 6:45 PM - 8:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks • Churches & Cathedrals
The octagonal belltower is perhaps the most impressive feature of this church. The Franciscan order -instrumental in the christianization of the indigenous population- initiated the construction of the church and convent in 1536. Like many other churches dating back to the Spanish colonial period in Trujillo, the structure went through a process of change and modification of the original design. The interior is relatively sober, which makes the central Baroque altar piece stand out, but also invites contemplation. See more..
- 4.0 Playa de Huanchaco (611 reviews)
-Classic salt life
Spent 1-2 hours Beaches
I had been in Huanchaco before and came back for the beach and salt life. This is a darker color sand, not completely black. If you have had a hot rocks massage, imagine a patch of these rocks warming in the mid day sun to lay on! Very worthwhile experience that is easy to do here just down the beach from town! Lots of surfing ops here, but early and late bring out the best surfers See more..
- 4.0 Museo de Sitio de Chan Chan (230 reviews)
-Awesome History
Friday: 9:00 AM - 4:30 PM Speciality Museums
We hired a guide for the 45 minute walk through the Chan Chan ruins. It was a necessity. The ruins are beautiful, but very difficult to understand the symbolism and purpose of most of it without a knowledgeable local. Bring a hat or umbrella and sunblock, water and a snack perhaps. You will be in direct sunlight for the entire tour! Super cool. See more..
