Very beautiful both from outside and from inside. The surrounding mountains make it seem part of a Chistmas crib! See more..
  3. 4.5 Tren Macho (30 reviews)
    - This really worked for us.
Spent More than 3 hours Rail Services
    Tren Macho image
It is perhaps important to differentiate between the thrice-weekly genuine diesel drawn four carriage Tren Macho which leaves at 0630 and takes five to seven hours, and the daily 1230 less colourful 3-hr Auto Wagon. If you like trains (I do) go for the former and you will not be disappointed, including the scenery if the weather is sunny (even if you are an old hand in Peru). Well recommended - not so many train journeys available hereabouts these days, so don't miss the chance. See more..
  4. 4.5 Templo Inca de Huaytara (10 reviews)
    - ARQUITECTURA IMPRESIONANTE
Spent < 1 hour Historic Sites • Ancient Ruins • Religious Sites • Churches & Cathedrals

Wilka tours took us to the forest of Puyas Raimondi, which are very beautiful, have an impressive size and... can whisper. Those are giant plant that only flower once in their lives. The landscape is incredible. From Huancavelica it takes only 30 minute by car plus a 15 minute hike. See more..

  8. 4.5 Minas De Santa Barbara (2 reviews)
    - Interesting reminder of Colonial past
    Caverns & Caves
The mine and its workings are easily reached via road or a long, steep walk from town. The original mercury mine, with its Spanish crest over the entrance reminds us that at one time Santa Barbara was a vital part of the silver production industry that Spain exploited at great cost to its labour force. The mortality statistics are horrifying. The modern mine operation only lasted ten years and when it went bankrupt, the staff simply walked away, leaving equipment and paperwork. It is worth reading up on this before visiting, or taking a guided tour. See more..
