I went on this 9 day trek with Marco and two friends of mine in July of 2014. Marco was very knowledgeable about the area and had an incredibly bright personality that truly made this the trip of a lifetime. He has very well thought out itineraries, has a very reasonable price and is very willing to adapt to meet the needs of the group. One of my favorite things about this trip was how connected we were with the locals along the way. Rather than support a large tourism company, we spent our money with someone who supports the locals by eating at their houses along the way and staying in their small family hostels. We did this with a tour company, which at 35 soles was totally fine. It included the transport and guide. As is often the case, however, the people doing the tour are often not told how 'hard' (or not) the walk will be. At its peak, we reached almost 5000 metres so yes, you do need to be reasonably fit and in shape. Needless to say we left the guide and the group far behind and kept walking on a very clearly mapped out path. My advice is that if you are fit, and/ or hikers that you go to Plaza de la Constitucion and catch a bus yourself from there. It's about 10 soles one way. We went on a weekend where there were lots of people and this transport. You will need to check if this is the case during the week. Don't miss this beautiful walk! See more..

During trip (with one of tourists agency), we have stopped at Catarates Bayoz. We have been given time for some swimming and taking photos. Almost at the end of our stay, my father in law noticed a photographer, which was creating souvenirs with printed photo in front of that waterfall. I didn't expect too much as the indication was that one could enter 200 meters into the cave. What positively surprised me then was that for the 200 meters one had to climb with the help of a rope and in the light of a head lamp. An adventurous surprise, also for the children. Other than that, the cave is giant and one can feel its size when looking down into the holes that open up on the sides. Definitely worth a visit. See more..

I was planning to stay in Huancayo only one day but I saw a sign to go to High Jungle Trip for 5 Day ( I enrolled). We spend 5 days and 4 nights in the Jungle, 5 hours from Huancayo. This place reminds me of the grand canyon site, in a smaller scale of course! We visited during the day and it was amazing climbing this mountains and seeing the towers. We took a taxi from el Cerrito, the road was very rustic and almost unknown, the taxi driver had to ask several times to people to know how to get there, but we arrived and it was fun. We asked the taxi driver to wait for us, to get back to the city as I heard that this is a dangerous place. Despite the fact that nothing has happened to us, I think in fact it can be dangerous for tourists. Definitely, this is a place to visit, but be careful. See more..
