  1. 4.0 Senate Square (3.345 reviews)
    - Lovely Area with Beautiful Cathedral
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Senate Square image
Senate Square was a cool first look at Helsinki. We were with a friend who grew up there and she knew the area and what to see and do. The Helsinki Cathedral has beautiful architecture but isn't overly gaudy. It is clean and well kept as are the grounds and the square. Tourists should make this a stop in their itinerary and then plan to eat at Savotta nearby where you get traditional Finnish food! See more..
  2. 4.5 Old Market Hall (3.099 reviews)
    - Vanha Kauppahalli (aka Old Market Hall)
Points of Interest & Landmarks • Flea & Street Markets
    Old Market Hall image
The Vanha Kauppahalli, or Old Market Hall, is a relaxed, indoor, retail and dining spot and event space and is an ideal lunch spot for the hungry tourist and locals alike. Eating salmon soup or Skagan shrimp (shrimp toast) at the Hall is a must. We loved the food and the easy, friendly atmosphere. You can also browse local delicacies and buy jam, preserves, fish, meat and other Finnish fare to take home as a memento of your trip. The Hall is close to the outdoor market where you can browse further stalls. The building is gorgeous and a lovely photo op too. Watch out for the seagulls! See more..
  3. 4.5 The Esplanadi Park (2.801 reviews)
    - The most famous park in Finland
Points of Interest & Landmarks • Historic Walking Areas • Parks
    The Esplanadi Park image
This centrally located park was planned by the famous architect Carl Ludvig Engel. It was opened in 1818. At the Market Square end of the park lies the historic restaurant Kappeli from 1867. Opposite Kappeli is Espa Stage, which offers summer concerts. Svenska Teatern (Swedish Theatre) is located at the Mannerheimintie end of the park. There are many statues in the park. The most famous is the statue of Johan Ludvig Runeberg located next to the legendary Kämp Hotel. In the summertime, the park is popular for picnics. During Christmas time, the park is beautifully lit. See more..
  4. 4.0 Hakaniemi Market (1.222 reviews)
    - Don't be misled by the photos
Sunday: Points of Interest & Landmarks • Flea & Street Markets
    Hakaniemi Market image
Half or more of the photos for this listing are incorrect. They show either the Kauppatori open market or the Vanha Kauppahalli, both of which are adjacent to the harbor. Hakaniemi Market is about a mile to the north. All three places are great fun, in my view. Hakaniemi is the least touristed of them. See more..
  5. 4.0 Kauppatori (1.095 reviews)
    - Suosittelen käymään aamulla!
Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Flea & Street Markets
    Kauppatori image
Helsinki's Market Square in the morning was very spacious, a couple joggers and tourists here and there. There was a lot of cafe tents and all of them were very quiet so you could be in peace. I recommend to visit the Market Square, if you don't mind the smell of sea and fish! The prices were quite high in one tent, but probably cheaper in some others. See more..
  6. 4.5 Porvoo Old Town (1.026 reviews)
    - Incredibly picturesque
Sunday: 12:00 PM - 12:00 AM Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Porvoo Old Town image
If you are an art enthusiast and like to paint and draw you should plan to spend some time here. It is such a picturesque town that you can spend hours drawing and painting or photographing the beautiful houses, streets, river, nature, and environs of Porvoo. You can also buy some real art (and even the beautiful vintage Arabia ceramic ware) in a number of small and unique antique shops. I also recommend visiting the “Art Factory Porvoo” to see some interesting exhibition of contemporary Finnish artists. To reach the Factory you walk on the pleasant promenade along the Porvoo River for 10-15’ then cross a bridge until you reach Läntinen Aleksanterinkatu 1. See more..
  7. 4.5 The National Library of Finland (252 reviews)
    - Beautiful library
Sunday: Points of Interest & Landmarks • Architectural Buildings • Libraries
The National Library of Finland image
You have to leave bags and coats in a locker room before you enter, which is located on the right after you enter the front door, there are lockers with keys provided for valuables, all free of charge. The library is very beautiful, we spent about an hour wandering around, taking photos, marvelling at the architecture, and looking at book titles. There are some rooms that are for readers only, and you should obviously respect that. Make sure you go upstairs if you can to experience it all from another angle. See more..

  13. 4.5 Söderskär Majakka (LIGHTHOUSE) (22 reviews)
    - Lovely place for a day trip
Points of Interest & Landmarks • Lighthouses
    Söderskär Majakka (LIGHTHOUSE) image
Lighthouses are so fascinating and Söderskär lighthouse isn't an exception. It's a beautiful place, not too far from Helsinki or Porvoo and well worth a day trip. Just remember to pack some picnic food with you or you can also dine on the boat or have a snack in the café. Climbing up the lighthouse may be a bit scary (if you are afraid of heights like I am) but the scenery is truly worth it! See more..

    - The heart of a charming town
Points of Interest & Landmarks • Historic Walking Areas
    Town Hall Square image
We travelled to this lovely town from Helsinki by bus. It was fast (45 minutes) and comfortable. We walked in narrow streets among the old wooden houses and saw the famous church. We admired the traditional dark-red houses on the river bank. It was beautiful and peaceful. In the centre we saw the nice Town Hall Square. I think it’s a must-see attraction. See more..

    - Beautiful Old Church in Porvoo

Our guide took us for a ride to Porvoo, which is a charming village of wooden houses about an hour outside of Helsinki. We visited this church, built in 1450, and containing some symbols of ancient Christianity. We walked the cobblestone streets of town, and shopped in the small boutiques. It was a worthwhile visit. - Original

Gunnarstrand has somehow kept its original shape and form. There are no beach side cafes or jet ski rentals, but not big tourist crowds either. A place to go for a peaceful Hanko beach moment. See more..
  19. 4.0 The Old Water Tower of Ekenas (6 reviews)
    - Unknown but awesome
Points of Interest & Landmarks • Observation Decks & Towers
The Old Water Tower of Ekenas image
The Old Water Tower is a little bit of an unknown pearl to visit in Ekenäs. You can borrow the key from the Tourists' information by the Market Square, and then you can access the old brick tower freely. It's probably around 150 steps, and no elevator, so be prepared to walk up. The view is fantastic, and you can see the whole town, the church and some of the archipelago. There's a safety cage all over the top, so you can bring children. See more..
  20. 4.5 Malmgård (6 reviews)
    - Castle tour by Count Creutz
Points of Interest & Landmarks • Castles
    Malmgård image
We were given a tour of Malmgard, a castle dating to 1600's by the actual Count Creutz. He gave a guided tour of his home as well as the history of the property. We then had a light lunch, served in what used to be the home of the dairyman, now a small cafe. We tasted several microbrews that are brewed on the property. The farm is also a working farm , specializing in organic farming. There is a small shop attached to the microbrewery where organic cooking products are sold. We truly enjoyed the unique experience and I would highly recommend it. You can arrange a tour through porvoo tours or through the website Malmgard.fi See more..
  21. 4.5 Pike's Gut (2 reviews)

There are a few small businesses making trips to this location in Hanko and it's defenately worth the trip!! On one of these small islands, islets, there has a lot of stone carvings dating back to the 1700's and 1600's. There is also a lighthouse on another islet and the guides are often really good :) See more..
  22. 3.0 The Emigration Monument (2 reviews)
    - The beautiful crane statue
    Sunday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Monuments & Statues
    The Emigration Monument image
Siirtolaismonumentti (The Emigration Statue) is a very beautiful statue. There are three common cranes (Eurasian cranes) which fly from the top of the monument out to the sea. This is an emigration memory in remembrance of the great emigration during the years 1880-1930. About 250,000 emigrants passed through Hanko to England and then to the North America or Australia. Seeing this statue was an emotional experience for me. Besides, the location at the beach is very beautiful. However, at this moment the location is marked incorrectly on Tripadvisor. The right location is Merikatu, Hanko, just outside Regatta SPA Hotel. See more..
  23. 5.0 Struve Geodetic Arc (1 review)
    - Neglected Piece of History
Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks
Struven ketju or Struve Geodetic Arc points are listed in UNESCO World Heritage Sites. They are mainly survey points used to measure exact size and shape of planet earth in 1800's. This was even before state of the art satellites even came in to existence. But sadly they are not mentioned in any of the list of interesting place or sites in Finland. After learning about this interesting places, I decided to visit the nearest survey point to my house. After reaching very close to the place, it took me about 2 hours to find direction (and signage) to exact point because there was absolutely no signage. What was frustrating that not even locals knew about the place. I hope the local authorities put some signage that can help visitors. I found the story and history behind the place to be very interesting and fascinating. See more..
  24. 5.0 Krejansberget (1 review)
    - Amazing views!
Sunday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks
Left the car by Siuntio museum and started climbing up the path leading on top of a hill. After a few minutes of climbing in the middle of nature I saw the Bronze Age Burial site, fairly big stones in large piles marking a tomb. The place used to be covered in water a long time ago and the hill tops were reachable only by boats. People who lived here at that time chose these then-islands to bury their friends and family members inside these tombs. And now that land has risen up from the sea the views from up there were amazing! You were able to see Siuntio Church, the Church River and Suitia Manor from there. It's not allowed to climb on the tombs as the stones may fall and cause serious injury. Also some of the tombs are very near to the edge of the steep hill. I wouldn't let my children go without supervision as the risk of falling is real if you're not careful, especially during winter when it's slippery. The path isn't maintained during winter either. Watch out for snakes during hot summer days as they enjoy warm rocks! Otherwise amazing and place with rich history and beautiful views! Perfect for picnic (no fire allowed) See more..

  26. 5.0 Vantaa Cemetery (1 review)
    - cimitero di Honkanummi (Honkanummi cemetery) nel bosco di Vantaa
Points of Interest & Landmarks • Cemeteries
