    Siirtolaismonumentti (The Emigration Statue) is a very beautiful statue. There are three common cranes (Eurasian cranes) which fly from the top of the monument out to the sea. This is an emigration memory in remembrance of the great emigration during the years 1880-1930. About 250,000 emigrants passed through Hanko to England and then to the North America or Australia. Seeing this statue was an emotional experience for me. Besides, the location at the beach is very beautiful. However, at this moment the location is marked incorrectly on Tripadvisor. The right location is Merikatu, Hanko, just outside Regatta SPA Hotel. See more..

    After the Second World War the Soviet Union rented Porkkala area from Finland for 50 years. They built many triumphal archs around this area near important places but today only one remains. This arch is located near Pickala Manor House in the forest very near to the cobblestone road. The road was originally paved by cobblestones so it could carry the weight of Soviet armed vehicles. You can really sense history here! This is unique one of a kind place in Finland. To find the Triumphal Arch you need to head South from Siuntio centrum towards Pickala Manor House and the gas station ABC Pickala. Drive past ABC gas station towards Kirkkonummi and soon turn right on a narrow sand road. When the sand road comes to a small crossing with a cobblestone road, you're there. See more..
