I first heard about this place on CCTV travelogue. So I wanted to have a picnic there for ages. We went on midautmn day so the mountain was packed but entry to the zhongshan ling was free but we still had to pay 10rmb to get into the ampitheatre. it was a really great place to have a picnic it was slighly difficult with the minor slope but not too much of a problem. we went as a couple but it's a great place for friends or families with children. This is part of the Wuxi Film and TV base where they have San Guo City, Shui Hu City, and Tang City. The cities are film sets used to film various shows. There are also amusement park rides, food, and souvenir shops scattered throughout. And of course, there are no shortage of "pay to dress up and take a picture" places here. Unfortunately there are no tours available in English, but grab a map and explore the town on your own (without having watched the shows, it probably wont be of much interest anyway). The real highlight of these towns is watching the live shows offered. In San Guo, the "big" show is the "Three Heroes Fight Lu Bu". It has a large cast and they "fight" on horseback. I would recommend spending the majority of your time watching the live shows. See more..

We loved the Pagoda of Tiger Hill and the walk leading up to it. The pagoda is very old and the steps leading up to it are very nice. The area in April is quite wet and slippery so do bring a good pair of shoes. Ticket price for entry is 70 RMB for peak season April to October and 60 RMB for the rest of the year. The park around also has many nice ponds, walking paths and a large bonsai tree garden. See more..

I am offended by the inclusion of the ‘Vatican’ in its name. It’s far superior, very tasteful, many references to Chinese mythology. Huge grounds, huge statue, beautiful spotless building complex. I’m in awe of the ornateness, the money and care spent on its construction and upkeep. It would counter your previous concepts (if any) of an authoritarian and atheist government. While every city has a pedestrian zone, what makes this different is that it is comprised of several streets separated by canals. The narrowness of the canal streets (though not of the main road) gives it a more intimate feeling, with some nice tea places and few more unique shops than usual in such touristy areas. There are several bars along the main road so it can also get lively at night, although the bars are pretty clearly touristy bars. At night it's quite pretty as shown in the photos. While compared to most touristy "old town" zones it has more unique stores, it is also very clearly touristy, unlike say the pedestrian zone in Guangzhou, where you can find some of the more famous local restaurants. As one end is anchored by where the Nikko hotel is, expats can find expat-oriented restaurants there, if one is not into local fare, and make the trip an entire evening out. See more..

Visited a lot of gardens in Suzhou, all of them are different. This is in my eye the most beautiful, in fact this is my second time to Tongli, mostly for visiting this particular garden again. It's smaller compared to most gardens, compact but yet not cramped in design & layout, very clever design. Every angle or direction you look, there is a different view. Also, it's less crowded than the gardens that are in Suzhou city. Tips: 1. Go very early before the tour buses/ crowd arrive, I was always the first tourist there during my few nights stay in Tongli. 2. Take a rest when it's crowded, there are benches upstairs in the garden, best part, its with view to the pond! The crowd will be gone very soon as most tourists only spend a maximum of 30 minutes in a garden. 3. Worth to stay in Tongli for a night or 2 if like quite town, if you have time. Fun: Not sure how many found a hidden stairway camouflaged as a little stone hill. See more..

As far as Chinese attractions go, this is a nice one: it's old and has a nice atmosphere. As far as water towns go, it is tiny: just a few canals that cross each other. There are shops and wedding picture businesses but not that many restaurants of cafes so it's really not for hanging out. You can see every corner of the place in just a few hours. The temple area is impressive. Qiandeng is not nearly as crowded as other water towns in the area. See more..

It's nice to just wander about. There are a few different boat tours that do not take the same paths;make sure you know which you are paying for. Everything inside costs money. The VR experience, the boats, the kungfu show. That's quite a let down, considering the steep entrance price (100 RMB per adult). Also, consider the place very far from town; getting a cab out of there took a little while, but I did see some signs for buses to get us in town. Being with a family and being tired after walking 3 hours in the heat we decided to wait for the cab. Nonetheless, the walk in nature was welcomed, in China, and I do recommend it. See more..

Xuzhou may not be one of the top destinations in China to visit....but if you have the time, it’s worth the time and certainly a visit that avoids the huge crowds of many popular historical sites. We found the audio tour in English to be quite good and as informative as visiting Versailles....The tomb itself is carved into a natural stone hill. Like the Egyptians pyramids, these burial grounds provided many necessities for the afterlife....cooking facilities, an actual toilet, stables for a horse drawn chariot, a party room. his and hers burial caskets....it’s remarkable preserved and the artifacts are well presented. The quarters are a little tight...if you have visited the Catacombs in Paris, it’s a bit confining....but it’s not crowded nor the actual site is not large and takes no more than an hours to walk through. This tower is one of a myriad of tourist attractions in the center of Taizhou. I found this place by accident one day while I was wandering around the city, but I had a great time when I actually decided to go in. The entry fee was 40RMB and there are a number of small things to see near the tower. The tower itself is pretty cool. You can climb all the way to the top and the view is excellent. If you go to Taizhou old street first, you can purchase a boat ticket that will take you in a full loop of the ancient moat and drop you off at the docks at Wanghai Tower. See more..
