4.0Hanshan Temple(422 reviews) - Peaceful and Beautiful Thursday: 7:30 AM - 5:00 PM Religious Sites
This temple is truly beautiful and has characteristic Chinese architecture. The water canal beside the temple looks amazing in the late afternoon light. It is a fairly large temple with several different sections. Incense sticks were placed by visitors in front of the deities and the entire place smelled heavenly and the atmosphere was peaceful. The legend of the saints, Han & Shan was quite interesting and holds a special place in the hearts of the locals and visitors from other cities. I was surprised that we were allowed to wear shoes inside the temple. The statues of HAN & SHAN and the main large statue of Buddha looked beautiful. I wanted to spend a long time there, but had to leave because of time restrictions. I would love to visit the temple again.See more..
4.0Nanchan Temple of Wuxi(275 reviews) - Nanchan Temple area Thursday: 8:00 AM - 5:30 PM Religious Sites
A great place to spend 4 hours. In addition to the temple and the shopping stalls, the canal tour, the nearby pedestrian street, and the adjacent old Miaoguang market street are all worth your time. Easily accessible from the Wuxi Metro system.See more..
We loved the Pagoda of Tiger Hill and the walk leading up to it. The pagoda is very old and the steps leading up to it are very nice. The area in April is quite wet and slippery so do bring a good pair of shoes. Ticket price for entry is 70 RMB for peak season April to October and 60 RMB for the rest of the year. The park around also has many nice ponds, walking paths and a large bonsai tree garden.See more..
I visited with my mum and 2 month year old baby. The temple was amazing- you could spend about 2-3 hours if you wanted to make the most of it. The pagoda itself was incredible- you can take an elevator to the higher floors and the stairs are available for the lower floors. The monks were friendly and there was a range of temple buildings and a garden to walk around. I’ve been in Asia for many years and sometimes I’m quite templed out but this one was worth a visit. 4.0Jinshan Temple of Zhenjiang(129 reviews) - Was one of the highlights of my travel to China Thursday: 6:00 AM - 6:00 PM Religious Sites
This temple and the gardens around together with the water areas are an excellent scenario to spend at least half a day... The place was really excellent, the temple and the pagoda were marvellous, the views there are quite nice and it's also a calm place for a rest... A bit expensive the entrance but it is really recommendable...See more..
4.0Daming Temple(82 reviews) - Commercial Temple Thursday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Religious Sites
This temple is extremely large. However, it does not seem to be maintained well. Plants are withering all over the temple. Next, the temple requires both an entrance fee, and a fee which is needed to be paid, if you wish to visit the pagoda, which is clearly the main attraction of the temple. Worth a visit if you want to know more about the history of China. There is a souvenir shop in the temple, and many washrooms are situated around the temple. However, the washrooms all stink, and are clearly only cleaned once a blue moon.See more..
4.5Xiyuan Temple of Suzhou(56 reviews) - The top site in all of Suzhou Thursday: 7:30 AM - 5:30 PM Religious Sites
Slightly off the beaten path, this large complex should be THE must see for anyone visiting Suzhou. If you come around 3:30PM, you'll find it almost empty and there's enough time to visit the truly impressive temples and gardens, before the monks and priests start setting everything for evening prayers around 4:00PM, when they'll ask you to leave the main temple building. At 4:30PM the temple is filled with nuns and monks in impressive robes, who begin their evening ceremony, all of which you can watch from the doors. It's well, well worth it. However, the most important part of the serene complex is the Arhat Hall. Inside, you'll find 500 giant, golden Buddah's, each one completely unique and representing a different meaning. They are behind glass, but still the site is amazing. Some of them actually break through the glass, depending on their arm gesticulation. The Arhat Hall closes around 4:00 - 4:30PM.See more..

4.5Jiaoshan Mountain(42 reviews) - A Gem Thursday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Lookouts • Religious Sites
This is a AAAA national tourist site that receives little publicity. The ferry and entry fee to the island are 60rmb. The ferry is mostly standing only but it is a two minute trip. There is a temple, a pagoda, a hill climb, rock gardens, an old fort, a forest of stelae and numerous other nooks and crannies to explore on the island. Take a picnic basket and this makes a great day trip. Don't forget the mosquito repellent. The view on one side of the island is slightly marred by a power station across the river but otherwise there is plenty of nature to enjoy.See more..

4.0Dajue Temple(8 reviews) - Lovely huge grounds Thursday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Religious Sites
This temple is HUGE. The grounds are lovely and peaceful and one could take a nice leisurely walk to view various statues of boddhisatvas, immortals etc. May of it comes with english captions which is great for tourists who do not know Mandarin. We were extremely privileged to be able to join in their vegetarian lunch. Thats an incredible experience by itself into the study of mindfulness. No talking, only focus on your food. The vegetarian dishes served were somehow very flavourful and delicious, perhaps because of our focus and enforced silence! Certainly very glad to be able to experience it. See more..
3.5Qingyun Temple(7 reviews) - Just okay Thursday: 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM Religious Sites

4.0Gaomin Tenple(6 reviews) - Escape the bustling city, if you have time to spare Thursday: 8:00 AM - 6:30 PM Religious Sites
If you're into the details, every Chinese temple is unique in its own way. If you're not... see one Chinese temple, see them all. Gaomin Temple is still undergoing restoration works, but it's a quiet, open area outside of Yangzhou, where you can relax away from the bustling city center. Our Chinese-speaking friends had a quick but warm conversation with a monk about the temple and the construction works. For those of us not quite fluent in Mandarin, we got to burn incense at the main altar. Maybe because we visited in the middle of Summer, this place is definitely not crowded. We had it all to ourselves, and paid for this privilege with sweat. There's not a lot of shade, and we didn't see any shops, so if you're visiting in Summer DO bring water.See more..
4.0Tieshan Temple(4 reviews) - A Comfortable, Beautiful Forest Park Thursday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Religious Sites
I took a local bus to the park. It is a steady, comfortable climb on tree-lined walkways with streams sometimes crossing the pathway. We ate lunch at a family-run restaurant mid-way up the mountain. The pathway to the top was impassable because the stream had washed it out, but by that time we had seen the temple, had lunch, and enjoyed the scenery.See more..

See more..

5.0Balong Temple(1 review) - A nice surprise Thursday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Religious Sites
I'd driven past this place hundreds of times, always meaning to stop in and visit, then I finally did. It was a very nice surprise. The place is perhaps 10-15 years old, so quite a new construction, but then in China most things are! It is a very large temple complex, lots of out buildings with monks chanting and praying. The pagoda itself is quite lovely on the inside, you can take a lift up and look around multiple floors and look out over the statues in the middle. Entry fee was cheap, don't remember the cost but it was maybe 30rmb? If you're coming in from the main train station, by Didi/taxi it'll cost you ~55rmb or so. You'll need about 1 hour. If you're in Changzhou and are looking for something to do, it's a nice distraction.See more..
