We actually hiked all the way from purple mountain peak to this mausoleum; about a 2km hike. Interesting hike. This mausoleum is beautiful. No photography allowed inside the mausoleum but you can capture a pic or 2 from the outside of the main entrance, guards are ok with that! Saw a man flying his drone in the garden beside the mausoleum too. There’s drink/snack stalls everywhere and one by the mausoleum too so dont worry if you need a drink.See more..
4.5Xiaoling Tomb of Ming Dynasty(480 reviews) - Unesco World Heritage Site Thursday: 7:00 AM - 8:00 PM Historic Sites • Ancient Ruins • Historic Walking Areas • Cemeteries
There is a lot to see and explore on Purple Mountain (Sun Yat Sen Memorial etc.) and this tomb while UNESCO Site fairly common if you have been to other temples. Well maintained, peaceful and not busy when we were there. You learn about the cultural significance and background and I recommend to spend at least half a day exploring the entire area. Well worth it!See more..
This Ming tomb is remarkable because for about 300 years it was under water. When the Yellow River changed course in 1680, it merged with the Huai River and formed a lake, flooding the tomb site and the nearby village. When the lake level fell in the mid-1960s, the statues became visible and later associated buildings surfaced. Obviously, the site suffered from being buried for so long, but what remains is a site that is off the beaten track and not often visited even by Chinese. It is smaller than other tomb complexes and the Spirit Way is the primary attraction. There are some vendors who eek out a living from those who do visit, but it is not crowded or very commercial at all. On the week day in mid-July when I visited, there were probably eight other people there besides maybe 20 employees and vendors.See more..

See more..
