This place is breath-taking and an amazing sight. To think that it took millions of years for these unique mountains to form is humbling. The trail is well built and relatively easy to walk. Do wear comfortable track shoes as some parts can be abit slippery if it just rained. There are many interesting rocks that the guide pointed out to us, like a tortise shaped rock which symbolises longetivity. It can get quite crowded during peak hour especially at popular photo taking spots. We spent around 2-3 hours there in total. If you are hungry, don't worry there is McDonalds inside! :)See more..

4.5Golden Whip Brook(280 reviews) - Very relaxing walk Bodies of Water • Points of Interest & Landmarks
I loved this walk. Super easy and walking next to the stream was nice. My boys all had a dip in the spring mountain water but it was cold? ! Easy peasy walk, all flat. You walk next to the stream. We started our walk at the Oxygen Bar place, this walk can also connect you to the actual Avatar walk. You need to take the steps up but it’s all well signposted. We well kept, clean and has places to buy food and drinks. There are lots of monkeys too so be aware !See more..
4.0Yueyang Pavilion (Yueyang Lou)(167 reviews) - Iconic Outpost of Yueyang Friday: 6:30 AM - 7:00 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks
If you are visiting Yueyang, this is a must visit attraction. The Pavilion is one of 3 famous towers in Jiang Nan province. Comparing to Yellow Crane Tower at Wuhan which I had been, this tower is not as impressive. Nevertheless the tower impresses with finest traditional Chinese architecture. Inside the compound also displays scaled models of past towers that were destroyed during the reign of ancient dynasty. Nice to roam around to enjoy the lake view at the rear of the tower. Nearby to the attraction is a food street offering lots of local snacks and eateries. You can go to a public piazza nearby to view an enormous aquatic sculpture.See more..
4.5Huangshi Village(118 reviews) - Spectacular views without too many crowds Friday: 7:00 AM - 6:00 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks • Observation Decks & Towers
Huangshi Zhai is located in the southwest of the world natural heritage—Wulingyuan Quartz Peak-forest. Quartz sandstone distribution zone that is suitable to constitute large peak-forest starts from the northwest of Huangshi Zhai, and stretches to the northeast direction until the edge of West Sea, Maple Valley, and forms the world’s only magic large peak-forest with 20 kilometers length and 10 kilometers width. Huangshi Zhai is the largest among 3000 large peak-forests consisting of quartz sandstone. Huangshi Zhai is wide and thick with an altitude of 1,092 meters. It is high for looking the distance and wide and flat for rest. When you climb on this largest natural viewing deck and take a broad view, there are countless stone peaks and pillars, tall and straight, trying to make a figure, intensive and widely distributed. All these peaks and pillars form vast peak-forests, making people joyful suddenly and happy. If there is thick cloud covering all the peaks, flickering lofty and steep, or ethereal and fleeting, changing constantly. At this time, stone peaks and pillars seem to be firm rocks in turbulent and roaring waves on the sea, more poetical, and have the good reputation of “it is no avail of your trip to Zhangjiajie, unless you come to the summit of Huangshi Village”. Huangshi Zhai has tens of scenic spots including star gathering stage, double doors for the guest, five fingers peak, front garden and remaining piers of the heavenly bridge etc, among which, the latter two are the most famous.See more..

4.0Changsha Ferris wheel(82 reviews) - Best Cityscape view Friday: 8:30 AM - 10:30 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks • Observation Decks & Towers
The ferris wheel is located on the fifth floor. It was a little hard to locate with no street signage. You pay just before you get on. The ride lasts for approximately 20 minutes and will set you back 50 RMB per person. The glasses view from the cab isn’t exactly crystal clear, so forget the camera and just enjoy the view. The view itself it’s as spectacular as say the Canton or Pearl Tower. But for a fraction of the cost it’s a bargain. I recommend you go on a Saturday when the fireworks are on.See more..
Part of Mount Yuelu park, this is at the base of the mountain and therefore the most popular scenic spot. Even on a freezing cold day in the middle of winter it was packed. 4.0Mawangdui Mausoleum(32 reviews) - Fascinating mummy inside! Must Go Friday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Ancient Ruins • Points of Interest & Landmarks
An excellent museum that is newly renovated and reopened. The entire area is huge and very clean. This place is an actual archeological site that contained the tombs of three people from the Changsha Kingdom during the western Han dynasty (206 BC – 9 AD). It gives a detailed account from how this tomb was discovered and how the tomb was created given the limited resources people had in the past, from an archeologists point of view. It is so fascinating. What blew my mind was there is an actual mummy inside. Her body was so well preserved and beautiful that scientists could tell what was inside her tummy at her point of death (she led a good life). However, due to the constant exposure to harsh daily elements after it was excavated, it started to show signs of decay. Do visit this place to find out more :) Lastly, this place is FREE ENTRY!! This place is great for both young and old.See more..

4.0Hongjiang Ancient Commercial City(13 reviews) - Only a few streets but offers something different Friday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks
I visited in December, low season, so the city was gloomy and pretty empty. Most shops were closed too. I cannot confirm how packed it is in summer but be aware that the streets are narrow so it might feel pretty packed in summer. The old town is however not that big but offers some nice buildings and houses that you can visit. They are similar in terms of the design and architecture but I had not seen that in other nearby old towns. They also have a show (few minutes) at the house near what used to be the whore house. The city can be visited in 2-3h if you go into many buildings, if not, you can even do it in 1h. Access the city through one of gates where you can buy tickets, otherwise you cannot enter some of the houses.See more..

4.0Shanjiang Miao Village(10 reviews) - Public Bus to Shanghai Miao village Friday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks • Beach & Pool Clubs
All people I ask just told me in very little English that I have to take a tour to the village, for about 86 yuan. I found out there is a other way possible. If you catch the lokal bus Nr. 2/2a from Fenghuang, up toads the big bridge located north/west of Fenghuang. It is cloth to the north Bus station of Fenghuang. Get of the bus befor the bridge. Walk over bridge, after the bridge walk into the first Street at the right side and take the steep steps down to the local Bus station. You reach the steps after 200 m. This station is for short distance busses. The Bus ride takes about one hower and buses just come or not. It cost one way 7 Yuen. The last bus back to Fenghuang is about 6 pm. Better dabble check all this time informations. It took me a long time to find all information out, and unfortunately it was already to late to go. So I hope I can help some budget travelers with this information.See more..
4.5Mengdong River Scenic Resort(9 reviews) - The most exciting place for rafting Friday: 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks • Beach & Pool Clubs
Mengdong river rafting is the longgest rafting place in Hunan,China. It takes 1.5 hours from Zhangjiajie, the guide of Zhangjiajie backpacking club told us that it will be more convenient when the highway opens at the end of this year. Having a water fight with others on the boat is the most exciting on rafting, you need to prepare a very big water syringe to protect yourself. If you don't have one,you will become the target. what's more, you should prepare some trousers and clothes for you will be totally wet on the boat. Mengdong river rafting takes more than 3 hours,it's a very long canyon and the water is very clean, also,a lot of waterfalls blowout from the top of the mountain,it's really amazing just like a picture that I have never seen before.See more..
4.5Zhuzhou Radio And Television Tower(9 reviews) - A terrific way to see the sunset Points of Interest & Landmarks • Architectural Buildings
Really enjoyed my visit to the TV Tower (or as the locals call it - Shennong Tower). This might have explained why my taxi driver dropped me at the TV studio building as opposed to the TV tower/spire. 80RMB for a sightseeing ticket and all very casual. A lift takes you to the enclosed observation level, which is like a circular glass tube. There are glass floors to see the ground below. The real treat though is to be able to go up a flight of stairs to an outdoor observation deck. Thin strands of wire provide protection, but you are exposed to the elements. It is cool to hear the sounds of the city coming up from below. The views are awesome and sunset (if there is one!) is a great time to be there. Loved the view straight over the statue of Yan and along the Main Street and bridge. There’s also some bars around the bottom of the tower and it is a cruisy vibe as people wander around.See more..

3.5Ziquejie Terrace National Scenic Resort(7 reviews) - Great place to experience rular China landscape. Friday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks • Forests • Geologic Formations
One of the places to enjoy rice terraces in China. This is not a very turistic place, even for Chinese people. Lot of spots with amazing views but the impression depends on the season you came here. We were here in the beginning of april, a little bit too early, before the rice was planted. Whe lived in a hotel in Xinhua and reached Ziquejie with the early bus (7:20 am). The driver suggested us to live the bus at the topmost villages and walk down to Shuiche village. It was a good idea, we could enjoy the landscape from many different perspectives.See more..

4.0Li River(5 reviews) - Li River cruise Bodies of Water • Points of Interest & Landmarks Well this was a typical river cruise but this time on the river Li in China On board the state run vessel we found the facilities ok with plenty of room to move around with typical Chinese style toilets - (that's a hole in the floor) there are plenty of staff to look after you, the commentary was fine albeit the girls first language was Chinese and it was difficult to understand some of here English explanations but that aside she did a good job and it was laudable. With lots of opportunity to purchase beverages the lunch was again as you might expect typically Chinese and in my opinion not for the faint hearted - top tip have a good breakfast before you board... Overall worth going on and great picture opportunities to be had on the 4 hour trip. See more..
4.0Liu Shaoqi Memorial Hall(5 reviews) - TheSouthAfrican review Friday: 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks
An absolute marvel set in a grand park that overlooks a lake. The bronze statue starts the historical tour and introduced me to the first vice chairperson and the second chairperson of the Communist Party. At the end of a walk way you'll find a small museum introducing his life in the communist party. A further brisk walk took me to Lui Shaoqi's house and I was amazed at the historical prowess of the dwelling. This park is excellent for the family. 4.0Boyue Cavity(3 reviews) - Still my favourite place in Lengshuijiang Friday: 8:00 AM - 5:30 PM Bodies of Water • Points of Interest & Landmarks • Historic Walking Areas
The Boyue caves are located around ten minutes from the city by taxi or bus. They are situated above the city and there is a small amusement park with a few rides, go karts and carnival style stalls as well as the standard KTV. There is also a nice BBQ site nearby. The caves themselves are spectacular despite the grotto style lighting, it takes around an hour to walk through the caves, it is necessary to have a guide to take you through the caves, none of the guides speak a word of English, but that is standard for Lengshuijiang. It costs 70rmb to enter the caves, so it is cheap and definitely worth a visit.See more..

4.0Changsha Tongguan Kiln Ancient Town(3 reviews) - Transport back in time via the archeological sites and natural kilns Friday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Historic Sites • Ancient Ruins • Points of Interest & Landmarks
The kiln has different excavations and is an archeological site. There are areas were ruined pots and ceramics were thrown out and buried under the dirt. These areas have been excavated and tell a tale of how frequently the kiln was used. The museum also indicates what each section of the overall kiln and area is used for. It has English which is great, and there is A/C inside. You also have the opportunity to see some finished items that would dry/fire in piles. The firing process is very different from what I've typically seen, as the items are fired using the heat of the sun and various inclines in the hills. The ceramics style is also one of the oldest ever. The items from a shipwreck were found off an Asian island, and made there way back to Europe, feeling their ceramics/China industry. There's also a gift shop in the kiln, but the items may be a bit more expensive than the nearby village.See more..

3.0Baiyun Reef(2 reviews) - actually not bad Friday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Ancient Ruins • Points of Interest & Landmarks • Historic Walking Areas I booked this hotel as running out of options as a last minute booking & no other hotels available, I was scared by some of the other reviews but actually I need not have been, it was safe with a 24hour concierge, the rooms were clean if a little basic (but this is Cuba-where european standards are not the same), I didn't have the breakfast as I generally avoid food in budget hotels, the location was fantastic for the malecon & the havana vieja (old town). 4.5Zuolong Gorges(2 reviews) - Zuolong Gorge - a must see! Friday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks • Geologic Formations
Imagine waterfalls galore and incredible, breathtaking views filled with a sea of green - a 2 hour drive from the city section of Zhangjiajie. We visited Zuolong Gorge with a Zhangjiajie tour guide and it was one of our favourite places during our 2 week holiday in China. The approximately 2 hour walk/climb up Zuolong Gorge ranges from easy (i.e. walking on a wooden footpath), to a little more challenging further inside as you need to climb up some slippery rocks beside waterfalls with the help of a carefully laid out chain. On top of the mountain is a small village. We ate lunch at a farmer's house (a few of them have makeshift restaurants outside with tables as part of their house). We ate chicken caught that day in the village (they walk around freely), one amazing egg dish, rice and seasonal vegetables. We even tried fried wasps! One of the family members drove us back down the mountain (approximately a 10 minute drive) to the ticket area. I'm not sure if you'd have the same experience by yourself, so definitely recommend a tour guide. Wear shoes with some decent grip (I walked with Asics running shoes while my boyfriend wore his hiking boots). Also bring a bottle of water per person. No toilets inside so use the bathroom at the ticket area if you need to. Enjoy! See more..
