Spectacular views without too many crowds
Huangshi Zhai is located in the southwest of the world natural heritage—Wulingyuan Quartz Peak-forest. Quartz sandstone distribution zone that is suitable to constitute large peak-forest starts from the northwest of Huangshi Zhai, and stretches to the northeast direction until the edge of West Sea, Maple Valley, and forms the world’s only magic large peak-forest with 20 kilometers length and 10 kilometers width. Huangshi Zhai is the largest among 3000 large peak-forests consisting of quartz sandstone. Huangshi Zhai is wide and thick with an altitude of 1,092 meters. It is high for looking the distance and wide and flat for rest. When you climb on this largest natural viewing deck and take a broad view, there are countless stone peaks and pillars, tall and straight, trying to make a figure, intensive and widely distributed. All these peaks and pillars form vast peak-forests, making people joyful suddenly and happy. If there is thick cloud covering all the peaks, flickering lofty and steep, or ethereal and fleeting, changing constantly. At this time, stone peaks and pillars seem to be firm rocks in turbulent and roaring waves on the sea, more poetical, and have the good reputation of “it is no avail of your trip to Zhangjiajie, unless you come to the summit of Huangshi Village”. Huangshi Zhai has tens of scenic spots including star gathering stage, double doors for the guest, five fingers peak, front garden and remaining piers of the heavenly bridge etc, among which, the latter two are the most famous.

Spectacular views without too many crowds
Huangshi village is an older development than Yuanjiajie (to its North) but in my view better as it is less crowded with people and food stalls but with equally breathtaking panoramas of Zhangjiajie's iconic karst scenery. The circuit takes about two hours, leaving enough time to take in the views, and is not too tough on the legs/knees! Go to Scenic Area South Gate, then short walk, then short bus ride to cable car, also a spectacular 10 minutes. There is food at/near the cable car station.

Definitely MUST visit before too late!
This is definitely a must visit in ZJJ national park due to NO CROWD. All group tours are not yet allowed to come here so it is now still much « untouched » by the crazy crowds of Group tours. We came here by walking 2-3 hours along the Golden Whip stream then took cable car up. Going out of the park is only possible from this side by public bus to Wulingyuan station. RMB 10 per person. Road is not fully constructed yet this is why no group tours are coming. The bad news is the road is about to be finished and group tours will then come and this place will lose its serenity except during winter perhaps...
