This museum is really worth a visit. Prior to entering inside I was a bit skeptical. Actually the only reason why I was into visiting, was because it was too hot outside. I was searching for a cool place. Rather than going to a shopping mall I have preferred visiting this museum. My visit went beyond my expectations. I thought the most beautiful museums in China are in Beijing and Xi'an only but I was wrong. This is really very nice. The main attraction is Xin Zhui's cadaver that has been exceptionally preserved. Bear in mind two things though. The museum is closed on Monday. Secondly you need to book your ticket well in advance as this museum attracts thousands of visitors every day. When I arrived at the entrance I was refrained from entering. I tried to persuade the customer service to let me in. I justified myself by saying I didn't know anything about the number of visitors allowed to enter. In the end they kindly turned a blind eye and let me in. See more..

Yes, the rebuilding of Mr.Hu's house from Beijing is nice and gives an impression to the life he lived when at home. Also his childhoods house of grandfather shows, from what kind of family he came and why he was so engaged in teaching the farmers. But the great memorial hall, for me as Western, gives a strange impression. So much cult around a person and the party. Mr. Hu was one of the importanst leaders. No question. Found ourselves caught in Huaihua for 2 days as a by product of an unrelated problem. The museum is located about 1.5-2.0 Km from the railway station. Basically walk out of the station to the main road that crosses your path at 90 degrees, turn left and walk. Enjoy the hurly burly of Chinese life as you go. You cross a number of significant junctions but will eventually find a long grey wall on your left with carving/cement reliefs. Opposite is the museum. It is small, basically I guess a no longer needed two floor municipal building that's been made use of. However what it lacks in size is balanced by a nice range of things from 28,000 BC through to the bronze/iron age. There is a small but excellent collection of swords. The surprise was on the top floor, where they have allocated significant space to the history and derivation of the dog and how man and dog have interacted over the years. Unfortunately all the text is Chinese, I had someone to translate but we certainly stretched the vocabulary. Not sure I agree with some of the assumptions/assertions but until someone does a proper genetic drift analysis on the canine world back into time everything is open to debate. It will take you about an hour to go round if you look at everything, 20 mins if you don't. Don't be surprised if your asked for your ID on entry, they even checked my Chinese partners. entrance is free. See more..

I came here in the afternoon with a Chinese friend. At first it didn't seem too interesting but then we joined the tour in Chinese which started at about 3.30pm which brought the place to life. The guide took us to the most interesting aspects from the history of the town to the modern day, as well as turning on the interactive displays: a city model light show, a flying experience (over the city) and a 3D movie about Zhuzhou complete with moving chairs. It was one of the more informative and educational things to do in Zhuzhou. See more..
