4.5Mount Yuelu(502 reviews) - Perfect choice for leisure outdoor hiking Saturday: 6:00 AM - 11:00 PM Mountains • Historic Walking Areas
If you are a local there or have been living there for quite a long time, you definitely would know several trods from whether Central South University, Lushanna Road, Hunan University or Hunan Normal University. And, all those trods could provide an unique experiences regardless the weather or time. We chose to hike from the trod beginning from National Supercomputing Center in Changsha, along side the Denglu Alley, to Chuanshipo Lake on the Mount Yuelu. Wlaking on the trod through the forest uphill after rainny days could be slippery and muddy, but the fresh air and the smell of the damp mud is so engaging. After reaching the top of the hill near the television tower, panoramic view of Xijiang River and the other side of the city would definitely be the bonus of the trip.See more..
4.0Hengshan Ancient City(31 reviews) - Off the beaten track! Saturday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Historic Walking Areas
Lovely area with lots of Temples and Hengshan moutain. Didn't see any other western travellers but a place lots of Chinese tourists go to as a sacred area. Note that the train goes to Hengshan which is a very rural place, you can get a bus to Nanyue from there for 8 Yuan just ask the locals where the bus is (take a phrase book!) it is to the left of the train station then walk up to main street. it takes about 15 minutes to Nanyue which is a much nicer town which with its mountain ranges, looks like a village in the Alps! Temples here are expensive to get in by Chinese standards. Nanyue temple is 50 Yuan each, but very beautiful. We got in the Zhusheng Si temple for free though because it was closing up but I don't know if you have to pay otherwise, this is worth a visit though as it is an 8th century Temple. The Hengshan mountain is also 100 Yuan each, please note that in bad weather the minibuses up the mountain do not run so you can only walk up then. Buses up the mountain, when available and luggage storage facilities are available in the tourist centre in Nanyue.See more..
4.5Dongjiang Lake Scenic Area(15 reviews) - The natural beauty of misty Dongjiang Lake Bodies of Water • Historic Walking Areas • National Parks
Dongjiang Lake, Zixing County, Hunan Province, is 280 meters above sea level , and classified by China as a National five-star tourist attractions. There is state ecological protection over the area. Only a few boats are allowed to adorn the lake for tourists to take photographs. The lake waters are clear, calm, peaceful, and drinkable. The water quality meets the state-level requirement for human consumption. After a brief rain, the air seems fresher than ever. We got up early in the morning to watch the boat with the burning light. Great scenic water and mountain views in all directions. We came to Dongjiang Lake after our sightseeing in Gao Xiling, Chenzhou, Hunan Province.See more..
4.5Red Stone Forest(7 reviews) - A place must see Saturday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Historic Walking Areas
The Red Stone Forest National Geopark is located in the south central of Hunan Province. Covering an area of 20 kilometers square. The park rated as AAAA scenic area of China. The ancient animal fossils can bee seen anywhere in the park. The park outstands with its deep caves and miles of red carbonate-rock stones whose color changes with weather and temperature.See more..
3.5Ailian Lake Scenic Area(5 reviews) - 游人不多,非常安静 Saturday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Historic Walking Areas • Nature & Wildlife Areas
4.0Boyue Cavity(3 reviews) - Still my favourite place in Lengshuijiang Saturday: 8:00 AM - 5:30 PM Bodies of Water • Points of Interest & Landmarks • Historic Walking Areas
The Boyue caves are located around ten minutes from the city by taxi or bus. They are situated above the city and there is a small amusement park with a few rides, go karts and carnival style stalls as well as the standard KTV. There is also a nice BBQ site nearby. The caves themselves are spectacular despite the grotto style lighting, it takes around an hour to walk through the caves, it is necessary to have a guide to take you through the caves, none of the guides speak a word of English, but that is standard for Lengshuijiang. It costs 70rmb to enter the caves, so it is cheap and definitely worth a visit.See more..
3.0Baiyun Reef(2 reviews) - actually not bad Saturday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Ancient Ruins • Points of Interest & Landmarks • Historic Walking Areas I booked this hotel as running out of options as a last minute booking & no other hotels available, I was scared by some of the other reviews but actually I need not have been, it was safe with a 24hour concierge, the rooms were clean if a little basic (but this is Cuba-where european standards are not the same), I didn't have the breakfast as I generally avoid food in budget hotels, the location was fantastic for the malecon & the havana vieja (old town). My message is don't be put off by some of the reviews & I generally have found 7ideas good/helpful too. See more..
3.5Jinggang Ancient Town(2 reviews) - Ancient riverside town for Chinese tourists Historic Sites • Historic Walking Areas
This river town, restored with an ancient feel, is moderately interesting. Paved with old stones and showing some of the building styles dating back to the Qing Dynasty, it is now a local tourist attraction on the outskirts of Changsha, Hunan. One of the more unique features is a building that was a former brothel with paintings of the courtesans. Vendors sell snack foods on the street and there are several restaurants. My recent visit was during the Chinese New Year and the streets were attractively decorated with lanterns and banners.See more..
