Fenghuang is a nice ancient city built along a river. During the day it's great to walk through the little streets and discover the many nice things they are selling. The place is full of chinese tourists, I saw maybe 5 western tourists in a whole day walking. During the Night, the bars along the river play loud disco music, which kind of ruins the atmosphere (everything is beautiful!) and feels like Chinese ballermann... See more..

In June/July 1937, the Japanese forces began to invade China. A retired general of the USA acted as a consultant to the Chinese military. In 1940, the USA gave 100 planes to China. In July 1941, an American voluntary group (basically relatively high-paid mercenaries) of USA pilots began to arrive to protect the Burma Road. They flew under the Chinese flag. Interesting . . . Is this one of the reasons that Japan bombed Pearl Harbor? Although the number of planes in the Flying Tigers unit were greatly outnumbered by the Jap[anese planes they encountered in the air, they had superior fighting power and turned the tide to China winning battles in the air. This is a very informative memorial museum. I had no idea of the significant involvement of the USA in fighting the Japanese invasion forces, before Japan bombing Pearl Harbor. See more..
