    Visiting the seals while they are resting on the sandbank is marvellous but the added value of this trip is the humorous but educational explanation of the crew when they comment on the fish they caught in the 'Waddenzee'. After only 15 minutes hanging out the fishing nets in the sea, they have plenty of fish to comment. And afterwards all of the fish goes back in the sea, alive and kicking...     Popta Castle, the jewel among the Frisian manors. The history of the manor goes back to the 15th century, when it was founded by the Heringa family as a fortified manor house. In 1603 the van Eysinga family acquired the manor by inheritance, converted it and gave it the appearance it still has today. Following the death of the last member of that family living at Popta Castle, in 1687, her heirs sold the manor to the unmarried lawyer Dr. Henricus Popta. Up to his death in 1712, Dr. Popta used Heringastate, chiefly as a summer residence. Ever since then the house has never been lived in. Now as a museum Popta Castle welcomes visitors to look round the various rooms, which are still fully and delicately furnished in 17th and 18th century style. Also the ‘Almshouse’ founded by Dr. Poptain 1712 to offer widows in need and single elderly women a carefree old age is certainly worth visiting.     Al bij aankomst zagen we de prachtige en relaxte pony's en paarden staan. Een gezellige manege met leuke medewerkers. Allemaal stuk voor stuk delen ze de passie voor de paarden. Onze dochter heeft al heel wat ervaring en het is gelukt om haar toch uit te dagen en haar een heerlijke tijd te bezorgen. Agnes heeft haar fantastisch les gegeven op haar eigen paard. En met Maaike (of Meike) heeft ze heerlijke strandritten gemaakt. Een super ervaring.

We were met at the reception by 4 very friendly people, once we had paid our 10 Euros for the two of us a very nice man called Jaap who speaks excellent English started our tour of the museum. We wondered why Jaap was talking about chicory and coffee, but all was revealed on our tour around. The tour was excellent and the exhibits are well thought out.     Wat een fijne ervaring was dit! Ondanks dat het weer niet zonnig was, was onze boottrip dat zeker wel. Wat ik fijn vind is dat het mailcontact (met Hans) heel soepel verliep. Hans stond open voor allerlei vragen en reageerde snel. De ontvangst op 28 mei was zeer gastvrij en vriendelijk. In de heerlijk stille boot stond de koffie en thee met friese koek al op ons te wachten. Wolter was onze leuke schipper.     During the Sicties and Seventies, this moped was a regularly uses vehicle in the Netherlands. It has a small motor on the front wheel that has a maximum speed of around 30 kilometers per hour. It not obliged to wear a helmet however recommended, it needs 1 liter of mixed fuel for 70 kilometers and it's grat fun to have a family party or a company outage with these funny mopeds.     Neptunus is the best zeilschool in Nederland! I have been bringing my students here since 2010. The staff is outstanding, the facilities are rustic but well maintained; and being updated all the time. The sailing equipment is up to date and very well maintained. From the moment my students arrive until the moment they re-board the buses to go home I know that my students have been well cared for and have had a wonderful educational week. The staff accommodates all our requests and is really great when dealing with special dietary needs and restrictions.     Great tour guided by Kayak Tjonger Tours. We started at restaurant/hotel "De Tjonger Vallei" and peddled across the Tjeukemeer towards the delightful river "De Tjonger". Experiencing nature from a kayak feels like moving through a beautiful living Dutch landscape painting. Upon arriving at the Tjeukemeer, we witnessed Great Cormorants from a distance of less than 1 meter! Other birds we spotted included falcons, ducks and different kinds of geese. Although my experience with kayaking is limited, this 2.5 hour tour was easy to do and very much fun. The company offers different routes, so that the level of activity can be adjusted according to the desire of the participants.
