Go visit the beautiful island Schiermonnikoog!
On an October day I went by ferry to this beautiful island, rented a bike at Soepboer and cycled all around the island. Beautiful excursion for a day to visit all the highlights. Even during corona days! Due to the new regulations it is easier to book a hotel with a restaurant and have the advantage of being ablest stay and eat there.

    Tips for visiting Schiermonnikoog
The island is beautiful and also UNESCO location! It is a must for every who is in the neighborhood. How to get there - the island can only be visited by ferry. We took the Wagenborg ferry (located at Lauwersoog). The ferry leaves 3 times a day to the island. Booking the tickets online before hand is easy. Transportation on the island - the main method of travel is by foot or bicycle (what else, you are in the Netherlands?). The landschap is not challenging. Gradual climbs to some of the monuments. The village is about 3km from the ferry and so are other itineraries. So make sure you are fit to cover the distance. - we rented our bikes one line beforehand by Soepboer. The pickup is right where you arrive with the ferry. All roads are paved on the island. This is our preferred way to travel here. Beaches - it was too cold for sunbathing in February despite the unexpected beautiful weather. They are easily accessible from the roads. I don’t see any permanent buildings on the beaches so I think you’ll need to bring all the food and drinks you need. Toilet - very important and often forgot on tourist information. Especially during COVID lock down all restaurants and bars are closed and so are their toilets. Good news is that there are plenty public toilets on the island. They are free and well maintained. Most of them are located closed to the beaches. We spend the whole day on the island. There is not much to do but that is the idea: take your time to wind down and relax and soak up the scenery.
