This is a pretty undutch sight. There are actually some kind of hilly things here in the neighbourhood and old forests. The cliffs are pretty cool to see and have the feeling of the green pastures falling into the Zuiderzee. Obviously, they are not real cliffs. But i was pretty excited nontheless! See more..

This quirky little gem is slightly off the beaten path, but well worth seeking out if you are in Friesland. Although it initially looks as though you have stumbled across a ruin, it is actually the exact opposite, a long term development where people, plants and animals work together, without a plan, to see what develops; a wholly organic process. The brain-child of Louis Le Roy, the initial supplies were superfluous materials from local builders, simply stacked loosely on top of each other, sometimes forming detailed patterns. We were the only visitors while we were there and it did indeed feel very spiritual as we wandered around. See more..

Tijdens elk jaargetijde is het mooi om hier te wandelen. Diverse bewegwijzerde routes beschikbaar. O.a route van 4.5 km. Parkeren mogelijk bij restaurant drie provinciën of bij de schaapskooi van het Fryske Gea. Komen hier regelmatig terug, en landschap is altijd weer anders.Tijdens elk jaargetijde is het mooi om hier te wandelen. Diverse bewegwijzerde routes beschikbaar. O.a route van 4.5 km. Mooi centrum, met veel interessante informatie en interactieve mogelijkheden: plaats een van de potjes met bijvoorbeeld een eitje of veertjes op een speciaal punt en krijg via de tablet info over flora en fauna. Het centrum is de start van een prachtige wandeling door het unieke kweldergebied. Centrum is entree-vrij. De wandeling is de dijk over en een aantal hekjes door. Just east of Heerenveen this area with forest, meadows and fields, brooks and canals is great for walking, hiking and cycling. There are also some estates like Oranjestein that are worth visiting. The whole area is well managed by Staatsbosbeheer (state forest organization). Oranjewoud is also the name of the nearby village. See more..
