Things to do & places to visit in Koh Tao, Surat Thani Province, Thailand

Koh Tao cover image
Drifting serenely in the Gulf of Thailand, the palm-fringed island of Ko Tao takes its name from the abundant sea turtles that reside on its shores. White sand beaches sheltered by steep hills – some only accessible with four-wheel drive vehicles – and 300 days of sun per year invite long afternoons of lounging.

    RPM Koh Tao image
Went to RPM to rent a couple bikes based on its reviews and the recommendation of a bar owner just down the street. The gentleman we worked with, his name was Ko, was really, really nice, honest and he gave us a great price along with a thorough overview of the bikes and even let us take them for test rides. He doesn't charge for small scratches. Just if there's something broken. (We heard of other places ripping off people for prior scratches/ damages). Definitely consider using him. His shop is about a three walk from the pier. Check him out if your gonna rent a bike. See more..

And don’t be shy if you travel alone, someone will always be happy to take your pictures with you in them, and of corse you can return the favour. It’s a. Interesting walk/climb up using the well positioned ropes to help you, not recommended to wear flip flops and be careful even the easy bits are a bit slippery with loose gravel. Truly a great place See more..

    Sail Rock (Dive Site) image
Visited Sail Rock as part of an organised diving trip. The site is really great. Lots of wildlife to see and clear water. There were a few other dive boats there, so noting this is the time of covid I suspect it would be really quite busy at other times. See more..

    - Beautiful island
    Islands
    Koh Nang Yuan image
The hotel booked us a long tail boat from the beach to the island and the weather was glorious the day we visited (either side of the visit we had torrential rain, thunder and lightening). It was worth the travel to get to this little piece of paradise. You have to pay for beds/umbrellas on the sand but it’s a small cost to pay for the people who look after this pristine strip of sand, crystal clear water - definitely glad we took snorkels. It was a fab day out which we wouldn’t have missed. See more..

  18. 4.0 Jansom Bay (247 reviews)
    - Peaceful secluded beach
    Beaches
    Jansom Bay image
Jansom Bay is a beautiful white sand beach. One of the best on the island of Koh Tao. The beach is only 10 minutes walk from Mae Haad, the main port town, on the south-west side of Koh Tao. It's good for kids because there is no currents and the water is clear and quite shallow. It's a privately owned beach so a small entrance fee will be charged. See more..
  19. 4.0 Mango Bay (218 reviews)
    - We impressed locals by arriving on a motorbike!

    Mango Bay image
What a beautiful bay. We went exploring and decided to visit Mango Bay. My boyfriend and I rented a motorbike. It was definitely a trek, some steep areas that weren't paved. I hopped off a few times and walked. We parked our bike not far from where you start to walk down. We met up with a few other travellers and they decided the 200 baht per person wasn't worth it. They missed out! Not only does that money get used as a credit (we would have had lunch and bought water anyway) but it helps the beautiful resort ... and for what? $6 bucks? If you flew across the world and got as far as that stair climb, and didn't want to spend a surprise fee of 200 baht? Ha! The bay was beautiful, the snorkeling fun, and the pad thai was delicious! But be careful if you're not an experienced scooter driver and make sure you have good tred on the tires! See more..
  20. 4.0 Mango Viewpoint (159 reviews)
    - Amazing view
    Spent 1-2 hours Lookouts
    Mango Viewpoint image
At the beginning of the road on the way to the viewpoint you will find a kind of ‘fake’ mango viewpoint. The old lady sits at the entrance & its 20baht entry. I think she/her family have built this place for income as its a brilliant bit of Thai construction ha! Handmade hammocks & a bamboo platform held up by a tree trunk!! Its soo cool but honestly there is nothing fake about the view/setting Honestly it is just STUNNING!! I didnt see the point in going further up the road to pay 100bht for the ‘real’ tourist one ! Apparently the sunset is just beautiful here too’ See more..

  27. 3.0 West Coast Viewpoint (1 review)
Two View point
    Lookouts
    West Coast Viewpoint image
