  3. 5.0 Wat Khao Banchob (3 reviews)
    - A place of serenity, contemplation

    Wat Khao Banchob image
I went to Wat Khao Banchob almost a year ago together with my family when visiting Chantaburi. I've been to Thailand a number of times and have – of course – visited some temples, of which there are many(!). More often than not I find them a bit too crowded and sometimes also a bit exaggerated (at least to my somewhat austere taste). This place is different, however. Two colours stand out: brown/chestnut and gold and lend an air of calm, quiet and solemnity to the scene once you come into the temple. It had the effect on me, that I actually sat down and tried to meditate for a little while. This place is actually a soothing place to stay, and I had willingly stayed longer, had I not had obligations to the rest of my party to attend to. There's a good place to refresh yourself close by (Ban Suan Nim Ram) with reasonably priced food, and cottages too, if you want to stay in the area for longer. The scenery is also quite amazing. You find it all about an hours drive from Chantaburi . See more..

    - Thailand's largest cathedral!
    Churches & Cathedrals
Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception image
The Immaculate Conception Cathedral is one of the main highlights of visits to Chantaburi. The present gothic-style cathedral was built in the early 1900s, and is beautifully decorated inside and out. There are several wonderful stained glass windows, and the highlight statue of Mary adorned with 200,000 blue and white sapphire stones. The cathedral is open in the mornings, starting at 9:00 a.m., up to mid- or late afternoon, except closed from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. The area is very busy due to the large number of students attending the adjacent school and they charge 20 baht for parking. 7. 4.5 Namtok Phlio National Park (218 reviews)
    - A Really Well Presented National Park
    National Parks
    Namtok Phlio National Park image
This place is not like many others I have been to in Thailand where they just pile down tonnes of ugly concrete. This oen is really well landscaped with nice red stone and slate looking stone floors and walkways. Really well designed huts for info, public restrooms and cafes also that blend into the surroundings. We even took the 1.2km nature trail, which I have to say was very challenging on an energetic level. See more..

  10. 4.5 Khung Kraben Bay Royal Development Study Center (75 reviews)
    - Excellent Kayaking Adventure

Khung Kraben Bay Royal Development Study Center image
We went specifically for the kayaking. We were disappointed that we could not make a reservation in advance, but it was not set up that way. Rather it was first-come, first serve. There was some competition in getting kayaks but we were lucky and did not have to wait. That said, we got three kayaks for five people, at a total cost of Baht 200 which is a ridiculously cheap price for what they provide. There is no guide, which is great because we didn't want one or need one, and the kayaking "trail" takes about 1 1/2 to 2 hours to complete. Initially it skirts the mangrove/bay area, but the second half of the trail follows inlets into the mangrove area. It was a really great trip. We were there on a Sunday when it should have been really packed but still had no trouble getting access to kayaks. In order to get to the kayaks you have to walk to the very end of the boardwalk which is about half a kilometer, but we didn't mind. I mention it just FYI. See more..

  16. 4.5 Ao Krating (7 reviews)
    - Serene.
Spent More than 3 hours Beaches
    Ao Krating image
Our first visit to this beach left us with the feeling we must go back, so we did. It is a superb place to relax and enjoy the beauty of nature but if you are prepared and bring your picnic and cold box then you could be in for the perfect day. There is ample car parking but don’t burden yourself with too much as the walk down the steps to the beach is ok but the return journey might leave you a little hot and breathless. The beach is shaded with tall pine trees and some have swings attached for your amusement, they have provided picnic tables and chairs with no charge and the place is cleaned every morning around 9am. Set in a wonderful cove with islands offshore your eyes will never tire of looking at your surroundings. At high tide you will see the local ladies grazing the water’s edge as they search for shellfish, they are amazingly adept at this and as I watched they were picking them up quicker than I could spot them. The locals will appear around 1pm and spend the afternoon here, but be aware there is no one here selling food or drinks so anything you want you will need to bring. Simply an unspoiled piece of Thailand. See more..

    - Beautiful & Unique Temple
    Spent 2-3 hours Religious Sites
    Wat Khaochawang image
The temple complex, which is near to the Cambodian boarder, is constructed with beautiful carvings from wood taken, it is assumed, from the surrounding forests. The views are magnificent, and the carvings are extensive and superb. During our visit a large carved tree trunk was being decorated in the main temple hall. Visitors encouraged to help with this decoration and it was amazing to think this art work would remain for perhaps centuries to come. The temple is at Pong Nam Ron, about a 30 minute, 30 kilometre drive from Chanthaburi city. See more..
  19. 4.5 Khao Soi Dao Waterfall (3 reviews)
    - Very nice forest and waterfall - off the beaten track
Spent More than 3 hours Waterfalls
Drive up to Soi Dao north of Chanthaburi. The turning is to the left and a km or 2 down that road you enter the Khao Soi Dao National Park. Park shortly after the entrance next to the lowest level of the waterfall. There are 16 levels of the waterfall. We intended walking just to the first or 2nd level but slightly got lost on the trail and ended up at level 9. Wasn’t much water being the end of the dry season, but it was a lovely walk, hard, through the forest. Please note there seems to be alternative spellings of Soi Dao and Sai Dao. See more..

  24. 4.0 Wat Phai Lom (45 reviews)
    - Large Temple in Chanthaburi
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Wat Phai Lom image
Nice visit stop when you are in Chanthaburi, large complex ground with three main buildings, however when we visit two of them were closed, only one open for visit which houses a large reclining Buddha. Parking is ample but not every door is open so if you come across a gate which is opened then go in and park. Good place for the locals to come and pray for good health and good luck. See more..
  25. 4.0 Khao Chamao Khao Wong National Park (41 reviews)
    - Well worth the drive!
    Parks
Khao Chamao Khao Wong National Park image
We visited this park on a Monday, so it was really quiet and peaceful. There is plenty of parking and good toilet and shower facilities. We were really impressed by the efforts at conservation and recycling. You may take water with you on the hike to the waterfall, but no food. This is to reduce the litter left in the park, so be prepared to either eat before you start hiking, or to check your food in at the kiosk. We visited in the dry season, and imagine that in the wet season this would be quite spectacular, though not without risk. After the first pool the hike is rocky and steep, you will need sturdy footwear and a good level of fitness. At level 3 you can have a swim to cool off. Don’t be deterred by the brown carp, they are friendly but swim away from you when you enter the water. See more..
  26. 4.0 Hat Laem Sing (37 reviews)
    - Wonderful!
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Hat Laem Sing image
One of those places where you don’t appreciate until you leave it! Hat or indeed Haat means beach in Thai and the beach is a long stretch of darker sand which unfortunately makes the water not attractive to swim in when there is a reasonable current or tide. The beach is basically a bay which is surrounded by hills which I think gives it a special attraction and having an island about 1 kilometre away adds to the views. This is a place for Thais to come, relax and eat exceptionally good and well priced food, basically few tourists visit here. The area has many restaurants which extend onto the beach so you can sit and enjoy the atmosphere along with the views, pick your hotel as they are again very reasonably priced and be sure to say hello to Steve’s steak house as he is very friendly and the food is excellent, both Thai and European. See more..

  28. 4.0 National Maritime Museum (20 reviews)
    - i expected more but its a seeing worth attraction
Spent 1-2 hours Military Museums • History Museums
    National Maritime Museum image
Mainly its about an ancient ship they discovered and rebuilt. Its a wooden rebuilt ship an you can go inside an have the feeling of being in a time machine. Quite informative and gives an insight in thai maritime history. Woth to be combined with some other attractions in chantaburi, takes about 1.5 hrs. It seems to be well visited by groups of young thai students who come with buses. We payed 200 baht - its worth trying the "i have thai driving license" trick if you have one, reduction is possible. See more..
