    - A lovely day trip
Spent 1-2 hours Scenic Walking Areas
    Montreux Lakeside image
We travelled by (direct) train from Geneva. It was not expensive nb cheaper trains go to a different station and usually involve a change of train. nb. The (main) station has its back to the waterfront road and is high above it. You need the (free) lift or stairs to get to it. You should ask where to find the before leaving the station. Plenty of shops, boats and eateries await. The waterside promenade is very pleasant. The (inexpensive) bus to Chateau du Chillon runs from the waterfront road. You can pay by card onboard. An onboard screen updates you on the route but you may need to ask which of two stops is closest to the Chateau. A treat is to arrive or leave the Chateau by paddle boat. The 10 minute trip is about 10 SFr each way. It sets off from near the station lift/stairs nb other places further afield are served by this boat so be sure you are going to the right place. I was so fascinated by this mxuseum. Perfect place to visit alone, or with an introverted friend. ☺️ I spent 3-4 hours there, slowly walking around the exhibits, reading the artists' interesting bios, watching some that had 10 minute documentary-style videos, and absorbing the art. Each artist's work had such a unique and indescribable quality. I was there on a Tuesday and it was extremely silent (don't wear squeaky shoes!), but in a good introspective way. I'd go back! Grottes de Vallorbe image
The Caves at Vallorbe (Canton de Vaud) in the Swiss Jura were opened to the public a quarter of a century ago. They afford a spectacular display of the beauty of natural rock, enhanced entirely by natural illumination. For millions of years the limestone layers were eroded by the Orbe, a river which runs underground before bursting from the rocks – seemingly as a natural spring of which the Vallorbe Caves are the faithful guardians. Inside these caves, which are among the most beautiful in Europe, there is a display – the “Fairies’ Treasure” in which more than 250 mineral samples from all over the World are exhibited in four domed rooms hewn from the natural rock. La Suisse - Belle Epoque - paddle steamboat image
We took La Suisse, one of the Belle Époque paddle steamers on Lac Leman (Lake Geneva) from Bouveret to Montreux. We have taken other boats from other places on the lake before. It’s always a great thing to do. Even on the shortest trip there’s time for a cup of coffee or a glass of wine. And when waiting for your boat, or just arrived at your destination, there’s the opportunity to photograph these beautiful boats. Yes, we will be back. And if you take the stopping train to Bouveret it’s just a short stroll to the boat stop. What could be better on a lovely summer day? Also a great little trip for engine fans. See more..

Huge congratulations to the architects/builders of the "new" La Garenne. Visiting this animal park is the perfect way to spend a few hours observing and learning about the local wildlife. Make sure you approach the friendly and knowledgeable staff with your questions... or ask them to indicate the hiding spots of the (hard-to-see) animals. This is an absolute must-see-attraction for children. At the same time, your entrance fee helps with the financing of the park's unique animal care center. See more..

This place is lovely and there is something interesting about it. Each hour in front of the fountain the figures start moving on a building that is a pharmacy/shop. A song is played and some manly voice says some sentences. A friend explained to me that it is a story about a man who works at the cathedral and is responsible for shouting the time. I dont understand much French so I had no idea. It was interesting. So be there before the full hour to witness it. See more..

My daughter and I have done 10 different escape rooms--this was our first in another country. It was also one of the best. The Secrets de Nelly room had great puzzles and props, and the ghost scares were just right, even for a 10 year old. The staff were incredible friendly and helpful (they even stayed late after we had trouble finding the location--hint, there is no sign outside it). We also thought it was great that the room works for those speaking English, French, or German. If you're looking for something fun to do at night in Vevey or Montreux, this is an awesome experience. Historic Walking Areas
    Esplanade de Montbenon image
A large park around the Tribunal Fédéral with plenty of grass for picnics or sunbathing, children's play area, fountains, sculpture, restaurants, and great views of the lake. It's after the big hotel Lausanne Palace when walking from St-François, and above a large car park. The Supreme Court building was designed by Benjamin Recordon and incorportes many kinds of stone quarried in Switzerland. In front is a statue of William Tell, and a couple of smaller ones by local artist Nikola Zaric whose sculptures combining humans and animals can be seen around town. Also in the area, at the southern end of Pont Chauderon (bridge) and close to the Cécil bus stop is a small sculpture park for children, with 18 "stations", bronze sculptures with texts recounting a legend (in French): Latin alphabet on one page and braille opposite (parc des légendes).
