Located on a rocky outcrop above the town of the same name Lenzburg Castle is one of the most beautiful hilltop castles in Switzerland. Today’s castle complex is the end result of 1.000 years of construction history. In this original setting, history becomes an adventure. Especially for children and families: In the dragon research facility small researchers can explore much in a playful manner and visit the castle’s legendary dragon Fauchi. It was great to see this former stronghold of the Habsburg empire. Reputedly first built on the strategic peak during the 1000s. Since then it has had a storied history. In the grand afternoon sunshine it was a pleasant walk from the lowlands. On reaching the pinnacle, great panoramas of the city were to be seen, enhanced by the clarity of the light. Surrounded today by gardens, pastures and vineyards, the castle was founded by the Habsburgs in the first half of the 13 century. Along with its domain the castle was owned by eleven generations of the Effinger dynasty. Immerse yourself in an authentic experience of historical gardening culture and comfortable living. During this time the castle and its outbuildings were repeatedly adapted to suit the changing requirements. The prestige of the dynasty was illustrated by the spoils of war that Bernhard Effinger brought back in 1683 from fighting the Turks outside Vienna, and by Holderbank Church which contains the family vault. An audio guide introduces selected members of the family and tells their life stories. See more..

-Nice to visit if you have time
Monday: Speciality Museums
Founded in 1959, the Aargauer Kunsthaus is one of the leading art museums in Switzerland. It derives its appeal in particular from its exhibition programme, in which contemporary art takes a central place, and from its outstanding permanent collection, arguably the most important public collection of Swiss art from the 18th century to the present. In 2003 the museum building was expanded based on designs by Herzog & de Meuron Architects in collaboration with the artist Rémy Zaugg. Each year the Kunsthaus presents about ten exhibitions, showcasing major national and international artistic approaches. Particular attention is also paid to young artists and to artists from the Argovian region. An innovative, wide-ranging art education programme serves to foster public appreciation, particularly on the part of a younger audience, of the exhibitions and the permanent collection, with the latter regularly being presented in new arrangements.
