  6. 5.0 Vira Bruk (10 reviews)
    - Authentic Swedish experience
    Nature & Wildlife Tours
    Vira Bruk image
Vira Bruk id not just a hotel/restaurant setting but an authentic Swedish experience. It works similar to a sustainable agritourism even if the Swedish translation on the main entrance, suggests it as hunting log. Everything is perfectly organized and set with style. Vira Bruk has several cabins in the woods/lakes easily reachable by the map provided at the check-in. Our cabin was new and had a private renovated bathroom and shower. Towels and sheets were also included in the costs. There is also a shared kitchen if needed. In this place, you are totally immersed in nature. We saw a deer and a couple of wild boars running freely. Really interesting if you like nature! Forget internet as it is not properly working. Phone line is quite weak too in some area of the park. The breakfast was fresh and typical (special berry drinks, yogurt, smoothies, rye bread, etc). Dinner was also special and they also have a kids menu if needed. The staff is fantastic and very helpful. We stayed only one night but worth staying more as you can do several kinds of activities (fishing, sauna etc,) See more..

The cathedrai is surrounded by green, like most of the town, and since there are no other high buildings its red towers magnificently rise above the green and form a contrasting colour combination. Inside, there is a glass tree but most noteworthy. is a beautiful and complex glass altar by Bertil Vallien. Glass is of course fitting in the Växjö region. See more..

We drove here after recommendation from a man at skruf as they were just closing. And what a lucky fluke! As we enter a man sits in the open area and makes small wases. Our 7 year old exclaims "can I try" and he is actually allowed to test to his great surprise and joy. I guess we were a bit lucky as we were the only visitors at the time. But still, it was great to see the craftsman work and our boy really loved to test. Also worth checking out the shop, quite beautiful pieces of art in glass and their signature collection with a blue ribbon at the top. See more..

    The Emigrants' House image
My wife's grandmother emigrated from the Vaxjo area in 1900 and she wanted to know more. She contacted the Museum before we left the US and arranged to work with one of their researchers. We arrived at the Museum and she had several hours with a researcher who found my wife's relatives going back to 1760. This is an unbelievable resource. Besides real researcher help, they have an extensive library with microfilm records. There is a nice display museum on the main floor and a good restaurant in the building. A large lake is across the street and there is an ice cream place at the lake. A great resource. See more..
