- 4.5 Gripsholm Castle (310 reviews)
-One of the best castles ever visited
Friday: 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM Spent More than 3 hours Historic Sites • Castles
Gripsholm castle is the most surprising building in the beautiful town of Mariefred. It deserve a visit. It has a relaxing and well-kept garden, with a view on the lake Mälaren. It can be visited outside (with two great cannons) and inside. Lots of rooms with artworks and antiques on 3 (if I remember well) floors. Entrance 140 SEK See more..
- 4.5 Munktellmuseet (148 reviews)
-Henry Ford of Sweden
Speciality Museums
We were thoroughly impressed by this museum! We didn't even know about it until we stopped for the night at the hotel. As part of the complex our stay came with free admission to the museum. What a deal! For anyone with an interest in equipment or agricultural history, this is a real find. The exhibits are totally interactive. You can climb on any of them you want. Don't miss this exhibition if you're anywhere in the area. See more..

- 4.5 Stendorren Nature Reserve (92 reviews)
-A day at Stendörren
Nature & Wildlife Areas
This is a very genuine part of Sweden’s (Stockholm’s) east coast (from Norrtälje in the north to Trosa in the south) archipelago. On a warm and sunny day like this was, I can’t imagine any better place to be. Of course you can go here by yourself by boat but it’s also possible to take a car (a little more than a one hour drive from Stockholm). After parking, you can easily access a lot of the small islands via small suspension bridges to find your own favourite spot to spend the day sunbathing and swimming in the sea. Bring a picnic and stay a whole day. I also recommend a visit to nearby Trosa (for dinner for example) and maybe stay the night there at Trosa stadshotell or Bomans hotel. Both very good! See more..
- 4.5 Nyköpingsån (63 reviews)
-Peace like a river...
Bodies of Water
The river is full of salmon, beautifully clean, and the riverwalk is idyllic. I have heard the nightingale sing while sitting on a bench under the trees by the river. It's a great place to bring the family for a picnic, or just sit and drink coffee, watching the water rush by. See more..
- 4.5 S/S Mariefred (59 reviews)
-A great day out from Stockholm
Boat Tours
I have visited Stockholm many times and been on many boat trips from the city. For this one I boarded a steamship the S/S Mariefred from a berth near the city hall. It is a full day trip as the sailing there and back takes six hours and you have about three hours at Mariefred. I took a book to read on the journey but never got to read it as there was so much to see both on the water and on the surrounding land. Once at Mariefred I spent my time walking round the quaint town and around the Palace. A really enjoyable trip See more..
- 4.5 Ostra Sodermanlands Jarnvag (58 reviews)
-Mariefred: A lovely day trip from Stockholm
Scenic Railroads
The town is charming with beautiful views, then had fun visiting Gripsholm Castle, and then we topped it off with a ride on this steam train. Totally recommend it. You can get to Mariefred via steamboat - which has lovely scenery but is a bit long at 3.5 hours, or you can take a fast train between Stockholm and Läggesta. See more..
- 4.5 The Femore Fortress (57 reviews)
-Fascinating
Military Museums
This Cold War nuclear bunker is fascinating. We took the tour and the guide was very accommodating, translating all the information into English for us. It is huge inside - we climbed ladders and went through long tunnels to see and understand something of how life would have been if used in defence. There is then a great walk to do around the island, finding the turrets, guns and radar stations. See more..
- 4.5 Sigurdsristningen (46 reviews)
-Excellent piece of Viking history
Points of Interest & Landmarks
This site is definitely worth a visit if you are nearby and interested in Viking history. There are runes on both runestones and carved into rocks, and this one is carved directly into the rock. There are easy signs to follow to the sight, ample parking nearby, and there is a sign in English explaining the history of the carving and it's symbolism. Worth a visit if you are touring the area. See more..

Ever since visiting Boda Borg Boston, I have made it a goal of mine to get to a Boda Borg in Sweden and I am so glad to say I finally have! This place absolutely knocked my socks off. I wanted to come on a Monday, and even though it was just two of us, they opened the whole place just for us. I couldn't believe they did that and I'm so grateful for it. The rooms are great (especially Farmen - I'll still be thinking about that one for a while!) Thank you to everyone at BB Oxelösund for your hospitality and for an amazing day of questing. See more..

-Conveniently located for hiking in the area
Spent More than 3 hours Golf Courses
I stayed at this resort for 2 nights with a group of hikers, we did 3 hikes on sections of the Sörmlandsleden network of trails, easily reachable from the resort. The rooms are in small cottages, comfortable and well equiped. The restaurant provides good value. The path between the main building and the cottages is somewhat steep and not well lit at night. - 4.5 ReTuna Aterbruksgalleria (26 reviews)
-Recycling, recycling
Friday: 10:00 AM - 7:00 PM Shopping Malls
Im an environments artist and have heard about this mall before my travel. I was so keen to make it happen and visit it. Its a little bit far than the center thus its better to go by bus but if you are going during weekend than you have to go bi taxi which is abit expensive. You will need around an hour there to explore it, it has mostly main things from second hand cloth to second hand electronics. Also there are courses that take place but only in Swedish. There is small restaurant for quick snack. Almost an hour and half walking to the center. You are going to enjoy it if you are into the environment and recycling ;) I was too overwhelmed! See more..

- 4.5 Palstorps Hage (20 reviews)
-Fun in Nature and Obstacle Course
Spent 2-3 hours Playgrounds
This place is perfect for your kids. We happened upon this park and was not disappointed. All the activities and obstacle courses seem to be hand made, using recycled tires, gears, ladders, wood, hoses, etc. It's simply brilliant!! There is also a sand box for the little ones, a tricycle "speedway", a small cafe, lots of shade and tons of happy kids! It's so different and not your typical adventure park. Bring your kids, and a picnic, and enjoy a full day! I guarantee you they will sleep on the way home!! See more..

-Beautiful glass shop and studio!
Friday: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Speciality & Gift Shops
My friends and I were so glad we made a short detour on our way to Gripsholm Castle to visit this glass studio. The owner/artist was absolutely delightful and took time to talk with us while we watched her work. She has a nice shop attached to her studio with both decorative and functional pieces. The items were reasonably priced. My friends and I all left with items that we will cherish for years to come and which will remind us of our enjoyable visit. See more..
- 4.0 Nykoping Castle (164 reviews)
-Nyköpingshus - enjoy
Friday: Castles
The castle is called Nyköpingshus. I was amazed at how nice it was, it was actually more like a fortress than a castle. Built in the Middle Ages, then it was a bit rebuilt but the different styles fit together anyway. I recommend to everyone who comes to Nyköping to take a tour there and look because such type of castles or rather the fortress are not so many in Sweden. See more..

- 4.0 Rademachersmedjorna (85 reviews)
-Welcome to the 16th century!
History Museums
In the Rademacher Forges, the 17th Century comes to Life! Rademachersmedjorna (The Rademacher Forges) is an open-air museum in the middle of Eskilstuna with a number of well-preserved houses from Reinhold Rademachers smith manufacture from the 17th century. Here you will find active craftsmen, a museum smithy, a café and a restaurant. Outdoors in the area there are several exhibitions, open around the clock, year round. The area is free to enter, all year around. The history of Rademachersmedjorna The first forges were completed in 1659 and formed part of Carl Gustaf's City Ironmanufactury, landscaped and named after King Karl X Gustav. The manufacture was led by Reinhold Rademacher, whom the king invited from Livland in his quest to develop the Swedish smithing. In each smith household there were, besides the master and his family, spouses and apprentices. This meant that it could get quite crowded at home. Working in the smithy was dirty and sometimes hot, sometimes very cold. See more..
- 4.0 Julita Manor (77 reviews)

Julita Manor is an Open Air-museum by lake Oljaren, Katrineholm in the heart of Sodermanland County. They include pieces from Nordiska museet agricultural collection, one of the foremost in the world. Visitors are welcome to stay the night in one of Julita´s charming rooms in the manor wings from the 17th century, or in the youth hostel. See more..
- 4.0 Nynas Castle (60 reviews)
-Wonderful house and garden
Points of Interest & Landmarks • Castles
Wonderful experience to see how the Swedish aristocracy lived. The house was very interest and the kitchen garden and wild flower meadow were absolutely lovely. We had nice Fika in the restaurant which was in the old Orangery. Also the lady who play “ Hilda” in the house burst into song and had the most beautiful voice. What a lovely afternoon. Can highly recommend. See more..
- 4.0 Tullgarn Palace (40 reviews)
-Wonderful Castle with lots of history
Castles • Scenic Walking Areas
We had a great afternoon at the castle. Our tour guide Matilda was very knowledgeable and shared a lot of history. Wonderful to know the Russian tsar and his family came to visit just before the revolution. It was to be their last visit abroad. A document with all their signatures can be seen in the palace. As the palace is only open for the summer the garden were ok but nothing spectacular. You can bring your own picnic or have a snack in the cafe. If you enjoy history this place is a must. See more..
