Gamla Stationen is a nice place to visit for the whole family. Walk through the beautiful garden, enjoy an ice cream, eat or drink something and relax. The children can play some old games in the garden or visit the rabbits. Get some new garden ideas and buy a plant for your own garden. Skurkvarnen i Jordhamn strax söder om Gillberga på norra Öland är den sista i sitt slag i hela Sverige. Denna kvarn uppfördes 1905 och man använde alltså vindkraften för att putsa (slipa) kalkstenen.

Intill kvarnen finns en sk ”skurvandring”, en föregångare till skurkvarnen, som drevs av oxar.

Från området har man en otroligt vacker vy över Kalmarsund

This small museum that seems to be in the middle of nowhere is definitely one of the best places I visited in Sweden. Tricky as it was to get there off-season with public transport (but totally feasible), I would (and will) visit over and over again. The place is beautiful, the exhibits are so nicely curated, with such taste and attention to detail, and the staff is lovely beyond measure. It's neither massive not massificated, which is great as it allows for peaceful contemplation of the artwork with all the time you want to dedicate to it. My advice: do not miss it for the world! Spent 3 hours in this museum and art exhibition. It’s simply a must visit and the most rewarding museum on our Öland trip. Some of the info when walking up to the enterprise is in Swedish only but once inside it’s in english also. Check out the QR-codes in various places such as on items inside sheds etc for more information and access to audio guides. What’s special about this is it’s a different kind of village of farm houses in the style of row-houses more or less. Also be sure to check out the art exhibits and also there was a collection of different wheets a bit further in across the road quite interesting. See more..

Visited this museum as part of a trip down the south of Oland and it was one of the most interesting art museum that I have ever seen. There was a small entrance fee that you have to pay and you can loan their guidebooks (available in Swedish and English, free!) to find out more about the history of the place as well as the various artworks in the exhibit. When we were there, there was also a very friendly old man who spent time explaining to us what each piece of artwork was (though only my husband could understand as the guide only spoke Swedish). If you get hungry, there is also a cafe next to the museum for a spot of 'fika' before travelling on. All in all, a very interesting place that I would recommend checking out. See more..

Just besides the main road this is a fantastic sight! There are numerous windmills all across Oland. There have been over 2000 once. Used professionally, but also as a status icon amongst the farmers back in the days. A few hundred have survived and at this spot you get some of the best surviving examples. And a bunch in a row, which makes a great sight and good pictures. You even can get a look inside. There's a small parking lot at both ends and there were - despite the perfect weather - only few visitors. And most come and leave withing a matter of minutes. But bring some time to fully appreciate the wonderful place. Be aware that Busses and Motorhomes have a seperate parking lot. I'm saying this because a tour Bus squeezed into the car parking lot when we've visited...causing much trouble, since the lot was too small to fit a tour bus. Stora Alvaret means "the Great Alvar" is a limestone barren plain and is the typical agricultural landscape of Southern Öland (the long and narrow island in the South-East of Sweden, in front of the city of Kalmar). For its particular ecosystem, Stora Alvaret has been designated as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Indeed, it is the habitat of numerous rare and endangered wildflowers and other plants, both mediterranean and polar species! My 6 yr old grandson and 3 yr granddaughter had a wonderful day. The pace is perfect for them. The go carts all go just fast enough for excitement but not so fast that they were out of their ability to control. We all loved that it is pretty hands off. The kids get to be in charge of how they get around the various tracks. The circus area was great for some play that wasn't go cart derived. Adults get in for free and you can bring your own lunch/snacks. There is a cafe and various ice cream. Lots of fun for all. See more..
