Diving in Sipadan is truly world class. The currents are gentle here allowing for relaxed dives. The marine life is diverse and bountiful. Healthy corals (for now) and beautiful vistas made for good diving. The visibility was not always crystal clear, but we 10-15m visibility on an average. Sharks and turtles are a given on almost every dive. Barracudas, schools of jack, humphead parrotfish, batfish etc are abundant and make this a wonderful place to dive at.See more..
As soon as we meet Richard we knew that we would have a great experience. The team from Scubaholic are professional and have so much knowledge of the islands. We did 2 seperate day trips around the islands of Semporna then Richard arranged for a 2-night, 3-day trip to Mabul. Everything was faultless and we had a great experience. You can find their office located 1/2 way down the Jeti Pelancongan bangau bangau (Semporna Jetty) - convenient parking out front.See more..
Been twice and can’t say anything better about TRACC. Don’t think about going/booking just do it, 2weeks 2 months 2 years any time is well worth it and you won’t want to leave. Soo many turtle and baby turtle releases! You say turtles will never unexciting, after numerous 3 dive day seeing 25 daily u might think differently! Also loads off Nuddies and other Macro. The amount of Dives, the relaxed atmosphere, the marine and local education. Great food. Looking for a good flight deal for this year!! There Summer 2019 and summer 2022.See more..
5.0Danum Valley Conservation Area(138 reviews) - Orangutan in natural habitat Spent More than 3 hours Nature & Wildlife Areas • Valleys
I was very fortunate to witness Orangutan fairly up close in the wild at Danum Valley, something I’ll never forget. Top 5 experiences of my life. From Borneo Rainforest Lodge there are many walks to take, either on boardwalks or trekking in the forest, either option is worthwhile. Pack leech socks or either pull long socks up your legs as there are leeches. I walked up to Coffin Cliff and View Point platform that was a hot and steep walk which takes approx 1.5 hour (moderate fitness) each way. Was also lucky to see red leaf monkey during this trek, which are very cute. And stopped by Jacuzzi pool for a cool off on the way back down. The long canopy walk (longest in Sabah) being three made of timber and three of steel, is great especially in the morning light and bird life. Highly recommend Danum Valley for nature and wildlife lovers.See more..
I purchased their 3D2N package to see wildlife by boat and jungle trekking. Overall trip was very smooth. Saw a variety of wildlife, including three types of monkeys and crocodile. Also had a city tour at Sandakan. They were transparent in pricing. Highly recommend this tour operator.See more..
5.0Bike and Tours(109 reviews) - Bukit Piton Cultural Tours • Scuba & Snorkelling • Historical & Heritage Tours • Bike Tours • Day Trips
I stayed at the BIke & Tours B&B in Lahad Datu for two nights (great!) and additionally did a half-day tour (from 13.00 to 23.00) in the primary rainforest in Bukit Piton with them. The excursion was great: I was very lucky to be the only participant (advantages of travelling during low season in January!) and got very personal service from the driver and the wildlife guide, who were very knowledgeable about the animals and also happily answered the many questions I had about palm plantations. We were very lucky in seeing three orangutans relatively close (incredible given the short duration of the trip!), in addition to plenty of other interesting animals both during the day and at nighttime. It truly felt like a tailor-made trip for me, and I got back exhausted but happy!See more..
5.0Orou Sapulot(98 reviews) - Incredible experience 10/10 must do in Borneo Nature & Wildlife Tours
Wow! Where to begin? If you’re up for adventure and are looking at an organized tour in Borneo, it’s a must do experience. It was incredibly educational and the highlight of our Borneo trip. Jariah was a fantastic guide and it was great to meet different families from the Murut community at each camp. It’s very responsible eco community tourism and you learn about how your money is supporting the community long term. The activities stretch you, but the camps are very clean and well built so you have lots of time to relax and enjoy the beautiful nature too. We requested pescatarian food which was delicious. Logistically it was faultless, with transfers to our hostel in KK arranged. Strongly recomend buying adidas kampung rubber hiking shoes in KK for roughly 12ringgit - when your feet get wet they dry quickly and you can preserve your hiking boots. You can book directly through the Orou Sapulot website and I believe it’s a little cheaper than the other tour companies.See more..

The booking process untill confirmation was not the smoothest, but highly flexible. Then we came into contact with our guide Chun and everything was clear and arranged, including taxi, early arrival and lunch. He has so much knowledge and showed us around for three days. He tailored the trip around what we wanted to see and what he showed us exceeded our expectations. So much wildlife, such a green environment! From five different monkeys to beautiful insects and birds. The accomodation is clean, quiet and basic. The food was nice as well. Definitely highly recommend. We did it after our diving holidays and this was a great change of scenery so close to Tawau airport. As we did not bring our own camera gear Chun provided his great photo's of our visit.See more..
5.0Seabunny Scubacations(59 reviews) - Very good dive company, excellent staffs Thursday: 7:30 AM - 4:30 PM Multi-day Tours • Scuba & Snorkelling • Day Trips
Went for dive end of Jan'22 but started checking options early dec'21. Showey contacted me based on my enquiry and my best and most responsive person about people i contacted Showey is amazing staff who knows how to help customers. Inspite of hundreds of questions from me, i was given answer with utmost patience. I was offered the best deal for 3 dives including underwater pics.showey went extra mile to guide us on place of stay. At last minute request Showey arranged for pick up my friend from Tawah airport at 20% cost quoted by other service providers. Next my best dive master Jessica. She was very patient understanding and excellent. While I was nervous in my 1st dive, she ensured i am felt comfortable and relaxed. 2nd was the best and she also helped with some cool pics. Overall all the crew members very very good. Highly recommendedSee more..

My partner and I decided to do something to get our adrenalin pumping so did the full day course of white water rafting, rock climbing, abseiling, high ropes and zipline. We booked through Zip Borneo & Alex was very helpful. We really enjoyed our day - the activities were well managed, the staff were fun, the food at lunch was delicious (and they cooked a special meal to cater to my gluten intolerance) and the scenary was beautiful. 5.0Tabin Lodge and Wildlife Rainforest Tour(32 reviews) - TOP NOTCH STUNNING NATURAL EXPERIENCE Thursday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM 4WD, ATV & Off-Road Tours • Eco Tours • Night Tours • Nature & Wildlife Tours
Probably one of the best natural tours I have done over 30 years in Malaysia. Our guide was Dr Teo and his band of merry men ! Knowledgeable and well versed into the ecology of the area. And superb at spotting wildlife and sharing experiences. It was a rainy week and the restart of visitors to East Sabah, so all elements were in to make it a very private and interesting experience ! Definitely did not disappoint ! This type of "tour package" is for the more adventurous travelers with a deep appreciation of nature and wildlife as well as interaction with less privilege human beings living on the edge of vast mangroves and the sea. The boat ride with fireflies in the trees, clear night sky and fluorescent plancton was absolutely awesome !See more..
I spent multiple days of activities with a guide and the staff from Borneo Trails and I cannot say enough good things! Kurt (or Eryanto) was my guide for multiple activities around Sandakan including: Seligan Turtle Island, Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Center, Gormantong Caves, and to Sukau to Borneo Nature Lodge (which was also stellar). I have never met a more informative or interesting guide. I learned an overwhelming amount about wildlife, nature, culture, conservation and best practices of the ecological travel industry. All of the captains and drivers and other staff were also prompt, friendly and flexible, as well. The experiences at all of the above places were phenomenal. From watching a sea turtle lay eggs to seeing an orangutan in their natural environment of the jungle- I truly felt like I got to live out a life's dream.See more..
I had the best experience ever! Out of any place in Semporna please dive with Under Pressure and ask to dive with Jeremy Lam or Jeremy Ngai. They were extremely passionate and fun to be around very dedicated to what they do had lots of great conversations and most importantly very patient! I got certified with Jeremy there were times I wasn't at my best but he was very patient and willing to motivate me in order to pass. The prices were very fair most places around Semporna are the same ignore the review about the cancellation policy from the article written above. Thank again Jeremy for such a great experience and definitely will be back again for sure!See more..
5.0Bike & Tours(24 reviews) - Great Expierence Multi-day Tours • Cultural Tours • Bike Tours • Nature & Wildlife Tours • Day Trips
I did the Bukit Piton Tour, which I can totally recommend. We have seen a lot of wildlife (7 orang utans, lots of macaques and 2 slow loris at night) and the guide and spotters did a really great job. The meal served as dinner in the lodge was great. Much more than I would have expected. The lodge itself is very basic, but it's ok. And they have an absolutely cute cat in the lodge.See more..
5.0Sungai Kapur(15 reviews) - a superb area Spent More than 3 hours Nature & Wildlife Areas • Forests
Sungai Kapur – North Tabin is located within the RAMSAR site and referring it to an “off the beaten path gem” is an understatement! Sungai Kapur is by far Lahad Datu’s “2in1”! To conceptualize, it is as if the jungle of Danum Valley and the Kinabatangan River meets and placed in one area. As such visitors to this coordinate can engage at jungle trekking, river cruising and night safari.See more..

5.0Last POW Camp Memorial(4 reviews) - A humble experience Thursday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Historic Sites
The Last POW Camp Memorial is a memorial which is a 10 minute drive from the centre of, which commemorates the victims (mainly Australians and British) of the Sandakan Death Marches who died during their forced march by the Japanese to Ranau. The memorial area is gated but well-kept and litter free – You have to pay RM3 (which is tiny) to the family who lives next door to enter but they ensure the upkeep of the site. You can also take the steep stairs down to the river which is where the actual POW camp was. I stumbled across this site and I’m glad I did. It was a very interesting place and is a very easy drive off the main road, not far from Ranau. A must visit for all Australians and Brits who are interested in WW2 history.See more..
5.0Riverbug(3 reviews) - White water rafting in the Jungle River Rafting & Tubing • Adrenaline & Extreme Tours • Kayaking & Canoeing
These guys really looked after us, we left our luggage in the van to go rafting and they dropped us at the airport afterwards on our last day in Sabah. If that's your plan you probably need to check first, they had some worries that we might not make our flight. We were at the airport checking in by 5pm, they estimated 5:30-6pm rarely 7pm. The train is very old, max speed 30kmph (from what we could make out) and at one point we wondered if we should get out and push, but it made it and wouldn't want to go any faster the scenery was fabulous! The rafting was awesome fun with excellent instructions and great banter. We booked online while they had a promotional T-shirt and mine says I survived grade 3-4 rapids so that's the story I'm telling home. This is the dry season so they we're not so scary but still a fun challenge and the best last day we could have hoped for.See more..
I went here with 1StopBorneo Wildlife for a 3 days 2 nights team trip and it was simply wonderful! Before our adventure even started, we saw a Wrinkled Hornbill on the way to Camp Maris. Other cool animals I saw during the safaris were Binturong, Slow Loris, Wrinkled hornbills, Sambar Deer, Muntjac Deer, Wallace's Flying Frog, Reticulated Python, and so much more! There were many unique butterflies around the accommodation as well. The food provided was delicious, with afternoon tea and fruits included. Lunch on day 2 was by a small river which was absolutely relaxing! River was clean with a lot of fish, some of us also took a dip after lunch. Although the replanted forest is only 20+ years old, Inikea is teeming with wildlife. It is a great place to chill and unwind as it is remote from the usual tourist destinations in Borneo. Undoubtedly a must visit hidden gem!See more..
5.0KUNAK NT ADVENTURE(3 reviews) - Snorkeling, fishing and diving around Blue Hole in Darvel Bay Multi-day Tours • Scuba & Snorkelling • Helicopter Tours • Boat Tours • Fishing Charters & Tours • Hiking & Camping Tours • Speed Boats Tours • Day Trips
The Blue Hole is a coral reef about 45 minutes by speed boat from Kunak. Pristine crystal clear waters and unspoilt corals reefs almost seem too good to be true. Husband wife team Shirley and Ken from NT Adventures took very good care of us for the day's outing for our party of 7 whose ages range from 7 to 92 !!! At one point when my 3 nephew and nieces jumped into the water to swim the 300-400 metres from boat to beach, Ken promptly threw in a life buoy and swam after them as a safety measure. Ken also buddied my brother scuba diving. Their excellent knowledge of the waters allowed us to go to various spots for fishing, snorkelling, diving and even just wondering around a sand bank during the low tide. One of the trip highlights was sashimi of some of the live catches, complete with lime juice and chilli which Shirley and Ken knowingly :-) brought along !!!See more..

I spent a couple of days at Lupa Masa in Feb '15, and thought the place was amazing. I loved being so immersed in the forest (I hung my hammock right by the river, so woke to the sound of the rapids), and the food was excellent (I'm veggie anyway) with a varied, interesting menu. We did the 2-day jungle training package, which taught me a lot about how to life comfortably in the forest, and Elce was great - really patient, and obviously lots of experience. We met some really interesting people there, and our first night was Rob's birthday, so had a memorable jungle party, and the drinks were reasonably priced (considering everything has to be carried in!) - since all meals are included, so this is the only additional expense. Great location, and saw a cool snake curled up on the ferns right by the main hut. Amazing! Can't wait to go back...See more..

Lovely accommodation. Front desk, coordinators, and front desk are all super nice and like a huge welcoming family. The included breakfast, lunch and dinner are all great and the menu changes every meal (didn't eat the same dish twice over 5 days).
